OF ALL THE CHARACTERS ON GUNSMOKE STEVE FOREST IS THE SECOND BEST WHEN IT COMES TO THE FAST GUNMAN. MARSHALL DILLION IS BETTER.THE ACTOR THAT PLAYED THE TOWN DRUNK LOUIE (JAMES BEST) WHAT OTHER MOVIES BESIDE GUNSMOKE IS HE BEST REMEMBER.
there's also an episode called MORGAN with Steve Forest, aired on Mar.2, 1970. He took over Dodge then also, with a bunch of men to steal a Gold shipment Matt is bringing in.. He was equally a dirtbag in this one also! And Kitty was a primary character in this too.
I wasn't a big fan of this show or other such westerns except for The Rifleman, but nothing beats a gunfighter comes to town episode and this one without doubt was the best. Great performance by Steve Forrest and kudos to Amanda Blake for her scene in trying to plant a seed of doubt in Mannon's head..."I've never lost"..."You did with me."
ive been looking for this episode a long time and i was so excited to see someone finally posted it as my good old daddy used to say there are some actors that are so good when they play the badman it is a pleasure to hate them and heartily applaud them when they collect their awards thanks again
In several early black and white episodes, Dillon was outdrew. One time was in the first season. Anotrher time, Pernell Roberts outdrew him, but Pernell missed.
some of this episode was edited as I guess all of them are some, at the saloon mannon tells sam he can kill him and newly before sam can pull the trigger of the shotgun wit hit already cocked and aimed and before newly could draw his. If you watch return to dodge youll see as kitty recalls it.
I must say that Steve Forrest's acting in this episode was so convincing to me as a youngster, that I could not watch SWAT because I believed he was actually that type of personality. That is a great actor. Also a great script.
thank you for posting this . i am looking for a a episode where Newly finds the marshall before he reached dodge and told him a gunman had gunned down festus in the street and matt riggs up a padding tobuffer a bullet from a faster gunman. was this that episode ?
@aquatodabone Hmm.... I'm not for sure. It SOUNDS kinda familiar... but I don't exactly remember 100%. I'll research it and look through my recording and see if I have it! If I do, I'll post it as your request! :)
@aquatodabone STEVE FORREST AS MANNON GREAT ACTOR LATER PLAYED IN TV SERIES S. W.A. T. the only guy to ever beat Mat Dillon to the draw, Except for Orvo Ojala
I was watching this on TV and got a phone call. Tried to DVR it but couldn't. Thanks for posting. I would have wondered forever how Matt took him down.
This is my favorite episode of Gunsmoke! I had a dear friend named Rudy Sooter who was on the show for 8 years. He played the part of "Rudy" who worked at the Long Branch Saloon. It was fun to see gifts under his tree at Christmas from Amanda Blake and all of the stars of the show!
Why does Mannon appear to be eating raw meat in several scenes of this episode?

@jerico641 He is it's a clever ting they put in. He's more animal than human.

Its great to see these classic episodes of this great western tv series!!
I remember growing up to them with my parents & is probably I am still a "wannabee" cowboy today!
I was wondering though if anyone can help! MY particular memories seem to revolve around fights - good old fashioned brawls and fisty cuffs!
More so when they were in water - near or in a river/lake or when of them gets thrown into the mud or a "handy" horse water trough!
Can anyone help me identify any episodes? Thanks :)

Can you post the uncut version? There are missing dialouge about midway. Not much, but the 'trained Gunsmoke eye' can spot.
