He's very clean and rhythmically connected to every section to this piece. Although Franz liszt was known for breaking strings. Vladimir Ovchinnikov is my favorite of this piece so far. I've heard the rest and they play too frilly for me. But, that's my opinion.
Oh come one dont give me that. When you've been playing all your life, at 17, age has nothing to do with your level of playing. Besides, he won the Chopin competition at only 18 years of age
he makes body expressions but his music is not expressive here

Very clean (until the end-one slight mishap, listen closely), and yet, connected.

Although less refined, this interpretation is really surprisingly similar to Kissin's!
Especially the dynamics towards the end and the steady pace throughout the piece.
It should sound a lot better given a better instrument and better ambiance.

@sealkingdaniel yundi's is more legato and utilizes pedal a lot more

Look at his facial expression from 00:46 to 00:52. Lol

Definitely recorded with a poor instrument.

Yundi Li HAS TO record Transcendental Etude No. 4 - the infamous Mazeppa.

can't believe that yundi would play this etude
very clear, but might be too rational(may be the bad record)
however, he didn't rush at all, love it~
looking forward to hear the full performance
