Professor Lennox dominates Dawkins.....Only Hitch can trade intellect blows with him. Although I am a devout Christian, I will always miss Hitch, his wit and his intellect.
Two ironies to Dawkins quoting Pirsig. One, and I love zen & mm, is Pirsig was being humorous. He didn't mean you take him so literally, and Dawkins truly takes him wrongly. Second as most know sanity derives from the Latin clean. It is man who makes himself unclean, God renews man.
Of course I find your assertion highly debatable & unsupportable. I think any fair and objective examination of life makes clear that huge majorities of mankind live their lives subjected to all manner of oppressions, evils, & injustices. Does the mere fact that you may have accrued some disproportionate but temporal benefits made possible by a materially advancing society ( predicated on Christian values) prove that transcendent reality doesn't exist? No the Creator says U are spiritually dead
and William Ramsey became a born again Christian. I'm not saying to you that Christian can not become atheist. But when we are lazy, I'm not saying that that's your case, because I found you very inteligent and intellectual. But some christians which wants just to sit in church and listen to a minister and speacially in these days with so much wrong preachings, stead of getting off their butts and get to study, because you can not know about God only through the bible, but through Science
and through History, and Philosophy. So may be you should try that sometimes. Buy some books that you can fight both ways and try to find as many answers you can for yourself.
then you will start to open your eyes. I know is good to listen to people and watch videos specially about what we want to believe, but why don't you do like I do, go both ways, who knows you will find out that may be you are losing the focus on what most matters in life which is our relationship to God, then we will find mean of why I should love even my enemies. Like William Ramsey, which was an atheist Historian and Archeologian that spent 25 years of his life in the Holy land and Egypt
and other parts of the world where he could get part of the ancient historical pieces and try to prove that the Gospels and the book of acts was a fraud and a great lie, but for the surprise of the skeptics he came back home and shocked the atheist world saying that what he found was a lots of astounding proofs that all these books are correctly historical in all it's very little detail. May be you should buy some of his books.
But when we look at the scriptures and by the way; the bible is a very distinctive piece of literature to any other religious piece of scriptures. Any Muslim will tell you that his book the Qu'ran, is word for word perfect. It's perfect revelation of Alah in the eye of Muslim. But the bible as we know and read does not assume or afirm it's verbal perfection. We have great difficult ourselves with verbal perfection, that we know that sometimes a word would be better then the other word, speacilly
in the big volumes of material as the bible is. But when you take the scriptures disclosed over centuriesand over 1500 years or more, 40 different writters, over 66 books and you see the prophetic schema, all the way down to the person of Christ. Let me give u an example of this. Go yourself to the books of daniel, Isaiah, Psalms, don't listen to no one else and see and starts to line out all the prophecies even about the reign of Alexander the Great and the Roman Impire and to Christ
And I think that you are right when you wrote this_A society that strives for excellence and perfection to the extent that the Japanese do is always going to have high suicide rates,... because we consider ourselves so intellectual that we don't even have the consciousness to give value to our lives, that means we go back to the point that I'm always trying to make. With out God there's no Objective Moral values, we are just products over our brains and when that's gone we can go no further
our lives are over. as Nietzsche, that finished the last fourty years of his life in a manicomio, in silent and when he was able to open his mouth he would scream
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 So, we can go on and on and I will never disagree with you that people in the belief of Christianity commited a lot of attrocities, but as Science developed itself so Christianity did also so that the minds of people were openned to the truth of the meaning of what is to be a Christian and remember a lots of these attrocities commited by these people were when the Bible was not written in an Universal language and just a few understood it and had the wrong power over it.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 So, we can go on and on and I will never disagree with you that people in the belief of Christianity commited a lot of attrocities, but as Science developed itself so the minds of people were openned to the truth of the meaning of what is to be a Christian and remember a lots of these attrocities commited by these people were when the Bible was not written in an Universal language and just a few understood it and had the wrong power over it.
That's why we had the great reformers that God raised against these people and to show the world that what they were living and preaching was totally contraversy to the Gospels and to the Christianity found by Jesus.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 Now I know that been an atheist you can be a very lovely, kind and honest person as my father in law is and by the way He is Japanese a very good humanist Japanese. But you can never say that you have found the fountain of these things. Neither that these things are absolute and objective and not just a choice that I take, because theses laws exist if I want to believe them or not. Is like Logic, 2x2 is 4 before me and you perceived , water is wet before we tested,
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 Now you said that Hitler was a Roman Catholic, I think that if he had stick with that and apply his life to the teachings of Jesus and not Nietzsche he had been a great men and not a killer, and he had appreciate someone's life better then killing
@FrankieSayRelaxxx With out God my friend , there's no Core of Objective Moral values, there's no meaning in Life as the famous German Philosopher Nietzsche which followed the thoughts of Nihilism which is the Philosophy of "NO MEANING". With out God there's nothing for u to hold on to it. Just your own thoughts.
@OPCN1 ... by societal health I mean: Low crime rate, low rates social pathology, high income per capita, low teen pregnancy rates, low levels of illiteracy, low levels of poverty, low infant mortality rates etc etc the list goes on. And those aren't the only atheist majority countries that fit the trend. Ok then: I knew that the dictators were going to come up sooneror later. Firstly Hitler: Hitler was without doubt a Roman Catholic. Look it up. Anti religious statements attributed...
@OPCN1 ... to Hitler are considered inauthentic by the vast majority of the experts. Read Mein Kampf, he talks a lot about how he is doing 'God's work' and that he is fulfilling his religious duty in his attempt to destroy the jewish people. You cannot argue that Hitler was an atheist, you just can't. Now onto Stalin and Lennin...
@OPCN1 Stalin's church was called the Russian Orthodox Church. Stalin was many things, a former theologian, the head of the national church, and one of the most brutal dictators ever. His own views on religion are difficult to guess. Many scholars think of Stalin as a ruler who envisioned himself as a god. Your implication that he did all these things because he was an atheist (an assertion for which you have no evidence for)....
@OPCN1 is only an association fallacy, and does not reinforce your point at all. Anoter point is that almost all of the leaders of the USSR, from Lenin to Gorbachev, except for Malenkov, were atheist or non-religious or did not have their religion documented. Yet only Stalin committed such historic atrocities. Gorbachev explicitly affirmed his atheism, but he nonetheless campaigned for religious freedom and was very friendly toward believers.
@OPCN1 It is not the teachings of Jesus that are the problem. As far as I know, Jesus' teachings were moral on at least the vast majority of occasions. It is the rest of the bible that is at fault. Mostly the bad stuff is in the old testament, but there are also some questionable teachings in the New Testament.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 Now, you can say that, but show me one book that is unique as the Bible in every aspect, in the Historical aspect, Philosophical aspect and in the prophetic aspect, and in the theological aspect. You can say that the Bible has some controversy, some contradictions, discrepancies and all that, but I still believe that in it's Core message it's valuable and it has the most historical proof of all.
@OPCN1 Just because a book is unique does not make what is written in it true. Jane Eyre was a very unique book for its time, but that doesn't mean a word of it is true. Furthermore, if the bible was written by a totally perfect, all-power, all-knowing, all-loving God, then his book should be able to reflect that. However it does not, as you said, it is full of contradictions and discrepencies. It also has very little historic proof to back up its claims.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 to be false either historically or philosophically or in the existential realm and you go further and further, and you see that kind of system of failure and contradiction, then you have reason to believe that it can not really trust this document and it's not keeping with the way I'm seeing history and reality.
That's when we make a big mistake, the bible never was written by God, but was dictated by him and written by men, that's why it has so limited expressions, and so much of different linguistic forms in it. And if you start off with the scriptures and you ask yourself: Here are 66 books and written by nearly 40 different authors, over 1500 years. There are books on history, theological, systematical, and if the bible made a lot of assertions one after another that you find out
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1that Christianity has been responsible (or at least partially responsible) for more pain and suffering than it has helped to alleviate. Look at the crusades, the inquisition, the recent Christian terrorist activity in Norway...
Funny how people think of Christianity itself with out even knowing the concept of Christianity. But they don't talk about Hitler, Lenin, Starlin, and China and all the other countries that have the same point of view as they, that there's no God.
@OPCN1 As the de facto ruler of the USSR, Josef Stalin initiated many purges. Many clergey wree killed and this is often cited as Stalin's anti-christian mark. However, like Henry VIII in post-medieval England, he di not simply remove clergy, he replaced them. He established a new national church of Russia, which of course answered to him. He considered the church vry important to extending control from Moscow to the satellite nations...
I don’t doubt that evidence is important to many people. So it should be. (Personally, I’d give up Christianity tomorrow if I thought the facts stacked against it.) But I do doubt that this is the only factor in people’s unbelief—or even that it is always the main factor. I have had too many conversations over the years with avowed “atheists” who,
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 and my friend I hope you would go at you tube and watch this video_ How Can A Benevolent God Allow Suffering? By Ravi Zacharias, it's a very good video. God bless and sorry if I was rough in any time. But no hurt feelings please.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 and my friend I think that if there was no Gospels, no Christianity, we wouldn't be here anymore. Stick with your nice Christian girl friend, because I bet that she is the most sweet and kind girl that u ever met, and you have Christianity to thank for it, specially if she lives it as it is.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 and there would be no hope to aliviate our pain. But when you have Christianity lived and preach it as it is and as it offers, the Gospels telling you that there is a hope beyond this world it doesn't metter what kind pain I'm feeling I know there's a place that I will be rewarded for everything I'm going through, and as a great Cientist said, if you abolish God all you are going to do is resolve a intelectual problem, but simultaneously you will abolish all hope.
No.. it's because the Tooth Fairy doesn't make the same claims as Jesus. If the Tooth Fairy "book" said he created souls and would save yours then some people would pray to the Tooth Fairy.
Christianity is an illogical faith-based cult which is responsible for much of the pain and suffering in this world. If it was gone, the world would be so much better off without it.
hope. I know that people like u would love to see christians out of the picture, but it's people with a pride so high like yours that brings pain to this world. Because the greast Institutions around the world to help the needy and sick and drog addicted and other needs when there's catastrophy some where in the world are Christians. So instead of put the fault on christians for the why of pain in the world, why don't u do something to help and change that.
@OPCN1 Me prideful? No way, man. If only you knew me, you'd know that I am niether a proud or confindent person. And I would never want to see Christians out of the picture, my girlfriend who I love very much is a Christian! But that doesn't change the fact that Christianity has been responsible (or at least partially responsible) for more pain and suffering than it has helped to alleviate. Look at the crusades, the inquisition, the recent Christian terrorist activity in Norway...
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 Okay man, I'm sorry if I missed judged u. But the problem with people is that they put thei fault in Christianity itself but not on the people that calls themselves a christian. Christianity in it's concept of Christ and his teachings are perfect, but the problem with people is that they want to live Christianity or defend it with the wrong methods. Some people has known the philosophy of Christianity but not the Christ of christianity so this is where they make a big
@OPCN1 Whether they were think about the teachings of jesus himself or not, if Christianity never existed, all this would never have happened. You can't argue with that. Sure there will stil be evil and suffering in this world, and lots of it. But without Christianity there probably would have been significantly less.
I know all that your writing and I do not applaud to that, But see, there are sides of the coin. Christ died not so we can kill each other, he died so that wouldn't be needed. I know exactly what you are writing because you don't need to go to far back, just go back to Marthin Luther King jr. when he could not go to a white people's church because they were the ones promoting killing the blck people, but then you see a man like Luther King that lived the true gospel and showed in his own life.
The problem is the we look only on to the ban side of people who took adventage of their religion knowledge and persuated people to do horrible things, but we have to look also to the brider side, that it was not the Biblical Christianity that promoted that but man created concept of Christianity that made those atrocities but the Christianity found by Jesus Christ is a Christianity of love and mercy and care.
@OPCN1 "The problem is we look only on to the ban side" No, I don't look at just the bad side. I know Christianity is responsible for some good things, such as some magnificent examples of art and architecture (eg. Michael Angelo's most famous works, churches, cathedrals etc), the formation of charities, and it can help give people the motivation to quit alchoholism and other substance abuse. What I do is way this up against the millions and millions of people....
@OPCN1 ... that it has inflicted pain and suffering and death onto and I conclude that it does mroe good than bad. And think about the good things it has done. There is no benefit of ANY religion that cannot be achieved through secular means. Great art and architecture can be achieved without God. Charities can be created without God (the largest charity in the world was founded by the atheist, Bill Gates), and people can wean themselves off drugs without the thought of God on their minds.
but he discovered that there were value for our lives beyond this life and that a person died on a cross 2000 years ago for our sins. I thing that if there were no christianitry there were no hope for humanity.
I don't believe so, if u get a man as the serial killer Jeffrey Dummer that believed his whole life as u do, that there was no body out there that cared about humanity, that our lives only constituted of this life and that there was no life after death, and he went about killing people in the most horrible and painfull way that he could and when he read the bible for the first time, speacially the Gospels, He repented of his doings and gave up his killing , served time in jail and died there,
@OPCN1 With regards to your point about this "Jefrey Dummer" you speak of, I say - so what? I'm sure there have been examples of religious terrorists renouncing their religion and therefore their terrorist acts. Your point proves nothing.
Wrong, just because the gospel isn't true does not mean that people should have no hope. I have no idea how you managed to think that. No feelings have been hurt and thank you for encouragement with regard to my girlfriend, I appreciate it. :)
christianity is bad, and you are wrong. The christianity of the Bible is the most beautiful lesson we can learn to achieve Objective Moral Values, because Christ showed in himself that example, the example of love and care. But I understand people usind their point of view in regards to Christianity then hurt people. But I want you to offer me one fact that Christianity in the Historical realm is not truth. Because if you believe in Alexander the Great and not in the Historical Jesus, u r wrong.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 I never will discuss with you that we need to believe in God to be good and to have good moral ethics, but you do need the existence of God to have Objective Moral values. The only reason I gave you examples of Jaffrey Dummer, is because He embraced Darwinism. And I never said to you that religion is good or that it never used wrong measures against people. But point me out any wrong doings in the Gospel or that Jesus told them to commit? Because what you are saying is that
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 And I ask you. How can u care about the wrong doings that people did with each other, the pain they caused, if God doesn't exist then there's no value in life, we are just pieces of matter walking on this earth waiting for death to knock on our door and to fall dead and the grave is the end? So why are u so concern? In your point of view there's no God then there's no Objective Moral Values, then I think that what they did was right to them according to their choices, right?
@OPCN1 No. Just because to you life would seem meaningless without God does not mean that other people who don't believein God don't find happiness and meaning in life. There are plenty of countries out there with an atheist majority, examples include Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and France. You think they are full of depressed people running around killing each other because they think life has no value? No, they in fact have among the best societal health in the world...
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 with the most numbers of suicide, my wife is a Japanese descedent and she can tell you that. If a kid do not graduate from school or college he is dishonored by his parents as an less intellectual person, and they have a Park or better call it, a Square there, where kids like that jump from buildings killings themselves because they can't find no meaning for their lives and they don't care about the after life sense God does not exist.
@OPCN1 i think the Park thing is a bit of an exaggeration, but even if I were to grant you that, the high suicide rates is basically the only real shortcoming of Japanese society. A society that strives for excellence and perfection to the extent that the Japanese do is always going to have high suicide rates, because there are always going to be large numbers of people who simply do not have the ability to perform to the standards they consider to be so extremely important. Its got nothing...
he told his wife to call the minister that he listened all his life but never gave credit to him and his message, and as soon as the Minister got near the bed he only had seconds to hold tight the minister's hands and shout with wide open eyes and say, take me out of here, because this room is full of demons trying to push me down into the pit, and had his last breath and died.
loud with his believer Mother at his bed side and all his mouth could pronounce was verses of the scriptures which he memorized as a youngster after renouncing with his atheistic philosophy all that he learned from the Bible and his parents. And even consider that through his intellectial mind he had killed God and abolished Him forever from our minds and hearts, but that can be, because even dying we have that God consciousness, as the great rich atheist Howard Hughes, which in his death bed
@OPCN1 ... to do with their lack of religion. You will also find that the list of countries I have provided to you will also invariably have extremely low suicide rates (the exception being Japan ofcourse). I do not pretend to understand Hitler's thought-processes. All I know is that he was a Christian and he thought that he mostly likely thought he was doing what was right.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 I don't think that my life would be meaningless with out God, it was already meaninless with out Him, because I believe before as you, that we can do it with out God, but and I was a very destructive person. But you cited countries like Japan and others that are happy been with out God, I do agree with that, because to be happy you just need to have a little be of money, and cold beers and some sex, according to your perspective of happiness. But Japan is one of the countries
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 thousands of people as he did. The problem is, you put too much the fault on Christianity for so many horrible things, but start to count down and tell me who killed more in history, if you want to play that game of who did this and that. I think that was through Christianity that a lot of the Human rights laws that we have today exist.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 After all, if there is a God, surely we should expect his truth not only to be factually verifiable but also personally satisfying and socially relevant.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 No one embraces faith in Jesus Christ based solely on factual evidence. Equally, no one rejects Christianity or loses their faith solely because of a lack of facts. A combination of intellectual, personal and social factors is at work. I would ask readers, whether Christian or not, to explore the life of Jesus fully aware that we form our views on the big questions (and the small ones) through a range of factors.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 After all, if there is a God, surely we should expect his truth not only to be factually verifiable but also personally satisfying and socially relevant.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 I will definitely be laying out what seem to me quite robust arguments for the life and significance of Jesus, but I have no intention of hiding the fact that some of what follows appeals to the personal and social dimensions of our lives.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 The point of all this is to ask readers, whether Christian or not, to explore the life of Jesus fully aware that we form our views on the big questions (and the small ones) through a range of factors. We are complex people. We are intellectual, emotional and social beings, and each of these components plays some part in how we respond to material like this.
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 after some deeper discussion and growing friendship, admit that their reasons for resisting Christ are more complex than first acknowledged. An event in the past called into question the fairness or existence of the Almighty. A Christian they once knew turned out to be an ugly hypocrite and it spoiled their appreciation of anything coming out of the mouth of believers. Personal and social factors prove important for unbelief, after all.
@OPCN1 ... The pain brought to the many thousands upon thousands of parents whose children died before they were baptised, consequently leading them to the belief their souls were stuck in limbo for all eternity. Look at the massive prejudice inspired by the bible in so many Christians, against none believers or those of a different religion ("The fool in his heart says there is no God. Their deeds are vile, there is none that doeth good" etc). Look at how the catholic church was...
@OPCN1 .. responsible for the unlawful protection of its members when they participated in child rape. Look at how its policy on the use of condoms and the lies it spreads that they actually increase chances of catching HIV, and its devestating affects on the Catholic countries of Africa - this alone has caused deaths of millions upon millions. Look at how Europe was overwhelmed by Christianity during the dark ages and held back scientific progress for centuries.
John Lennox is a brilliant man/scientist and puts forth his arguments in an easy to understand manner. He is to the point and polite in his dissecting of the 'religion of evolution' He shreds the illogical position of atheism and lays bare the contradictory concepts the athiests hold so dear. Atheism is indeed a great delusion in the truest meaning of the word. "The fool saith in his heart, there is no God"
@MrTruthhurts777 how's atheism an delusion? I mean,..is it a delusion not to believe something that you have no evidence for? something that nobody has proven before? you are the delusional one who believe in something w/o evidence. seriously
i pity those who doesn't understand John, surely one has no intelligence and just a product of random chance & nature and compose of molecules and chemicals only.
The Old Lady’s TORTOISE (Hinduism) and DRAGON (Taoism) are symbols for WAVE (energy), both are analog with MAGEN DAVID (Judaism). "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is the metaphor, and also similar with allegory of rituals Thawaf circling around the Ka'ba and Sa’i oscillating along “the sinus” Marwah-Shafa during the Hajj pilgrimage (Abraham). YIN-YANG (energy-particle). CROSS (Christian) and SWASTIKA (Buddhism) are symbols for “Balance of Nature.”
@Straight8S And I love to rip the off because people like John Lennox a verry harmful for the society; he knows very weel he talks crap and he make living this way.
@Straight8S My philosophy is materialistic and the Lenox’s is idealist. A debate would be like arguing in English for one debater and in German for the other - same like the “debate” Hitchens v. Lennox.
For you, the most important is to differentiate believes from fate (religion). First ones are natural attributes of human existence. The fate (religion) is an ideology invented only to improve sustainability of the totalitarian societies like East Roman empire or Arabic Caliphate, etc.
" A debate would be like arguing in English for one debater and in German for the other - same like the “debate” Hitchens v. Lennox." If I understand your statement correctly, I agree, but if you assert the premise that debates on opposing worldviews are ineffectual the question remains; why do u feel the need to post comments on this video if u believe it serves no purpose?
In short, here is the thing: religion is an ideology; it exploits the tendency of humans to believe in supernatural and creates system of believes (fate) which is meant to serve to totalitarian sovereigns to suppress peoples. This is dangerous, ugly, and must be stopped. Your personal tragedy is believing that if some one strips off religion you will robbed of your personal believes. This is what you had been deceived about for millennia. Break free my friend; rip off the chains of the fate.

Enough with this crap Stalin, Mao, Hitler, etc. ATHEISM IS NOT A IDEOLOGY but religion is. One cannot do anything because they are atheists. Stalin was Bolshevik, Hitler was Nazi, Mao created his own ideology called Maoism - Pol Pot was deformed Maoist. Poor Lennox; I feel bad for this people who listen to him.
@cosmopolite66 "I feel bad for this people who listen to him." I feel bad that an atheist saw this video listed AND then felt compelled to click it. I feel bad that an atheist felt compelled to watch a 36 minute video on a Christian apologist simply to rip it afterward. I feel bad that an atheist could watch this video and not fathom a single concept he was trying to impart.
@Straight8S, I am not an atheist. I don’t believe in god(s) either. I watch apologists' videos for fun. My goal is to understand what kind of values a simple believer sees in what they were preached about. I cannot see anything. Conclusion: a believer must be a gullible, indoctrinated as child, person who has no concept of critical thinking; a believer can be lied about everything; requirement - the lie must be referred to God as authority. This is pathetic. And … be sorry for yourself.
@ThomasWinkworth This is for people who are struggling with their faith in an academic environment which is intellectually hostile to them. They believe, but they have trouble answering the difficult questions that atheists pose to them. So this message is not for people like you, but for struggling believers.
@rcarrillo7 yeah you're right. It's so sad that people can actually make believers question their belief, in one sense its good, since it proves that believers are not dogmatic but in another sense it's completely twisted. I personally hadn't even spoken to any athiest, just all the hidden assumptions hidden within TV programs concerning evolution was what made me question my belief, thankfully people just like John Lennox are out there telling the Truth about science
true indeed

@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 So, we can go on and on and I will never disagree with you that people in the belief of Christianity commited a lot of attrocities, but as Science developed itself so Christianity did also so that the minds of people were openned to the truth of the meaning of what is to be a Christian and remember a lots of these attrocities commited by these people were when the Bible was not written in an Universal language and just a few understood it and had the wrong power over it.

@OPCN1 ... by societal health I mean: Low crime rate, low rates social pathology, high income per capita, low teen pregnancy rates, low levels of illiteracy, low levels of poverty, low infant mortality rates etc etc the list goes on.

FrankieSayRelaxxx1 3 months ago
@OPCN1 Stalin's church was called the Russian Orthodox Church. Stalin was many things, a former theologian, the head of the national church, and one of the most brutal dictators ever. His own views on religion are difficult to guess. Many scholars think of Stalin as a ruler who envisioned himself as a god. Your implication that he did all these things because he was an atheist (an assertion for which you have no evidence for)....
FrankieSayRelaxxx1 3 months ago
@OPCN1 is only an association fallacy, and does not reinforce your point at all. Anoter point is that almost all of the leaders of the USSR, from Lenin to Gorbachev, except for Malenkov, were atheist or non-religious or did not have their religion documented. Yet only Stalin committed such historic atrocities. Gorbachev explicitly affirmed his atheism, but he nonetheless campaigned for religious freedom and was very friendly toward believers.
FrankieSayRelaxxx1 3 months ago
@OPCN1 It is not the teachings of Jesus that are the problem. As far as I know, Jesus' teachings were moral on at least the vast majority of occasions. It is the rest of the bible that is at fault. Mostly the bad stuff is in the old testament, but there are also some questionable teachings in the New Testament.
FrankieSayRelaxxx1 3 months ago
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 Now, you can say that, but show me one book that is unique as the Bible in every aspect, in the Historical aspect, Philosophical aspect and in the prophetic aspect, and in the theological aspect. You can say that the Bible has some controversy, some contradictions, discrepancies and all that, but I still believe that in it's Core message it's valuable and it has the most historical proof of all.
OPCN1 3 months ago
@OPCN1 Just because a book is unique does not make what is written in it true. Jane Eyre was a very unique book for its time, but that doesn't mean a word of it is true. Furthermore, if the bible was written by a totally perfect, all-power, all-knowing, all-loving God, then his book should be able to reflect that. However it does not, as you said, it is full of contradictions and discrepencies. It also has very little historic proof to back up its claims.
FrankieSayRelaxxx1 3 months ago
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 to be false either historically or philosophically or in the existential realm and you go further and further, and you see that kind of system of failure and contradiction, then you have reason to believe that it can not really trust this document and it's not keeping with the way I'm seeing history and reality.
OPCN1 3 months ago
That's when we make a big mistake, the bible never was written by God, but was dictated by him and written by men, that's why it has so limited expressions, and so much of different linguistic forms in it. And if you start off with the scriptures and you ask yourself: Here are 66 books and written by nearly 40 different authors, over 1500 years. There are books on history, theological, systematical, and if the bible made a lot of assertions one after another that you find out

@OPCN1 Whether they were think about the teachings of jesus himself or not, if Christianity never existed, all this would never have happened. You can't argue with that.

OPCN1 3 months ago
@OPCN1 "The problem is we look only on to the ban side" No, I don't look at just the bad side. I know Christianity is responsible for some good things, such as some magnificent examples of art and architecture (eg. Michael Angelo's most famous works, churches, cathedrals etc), the formation of charities, and it can help give people the motivation to quit alchoholism and other substance abuse. What I do is way this up against the millions and millions of people....
FrankieSayRelaxxx1 3 months ago
@OPCN1 ... that it has inflicted pain and suffering and death onto and I conclude that it does mroe good than bad.

I don't believe so, if u get a man as the serial killer Jeffrey Dummer that believed his whole life as u do, that there was no body out there that cared about humanity, that our lives only constituted of this life and that there was no life after death, and he went about killing people in the most horrible and painfull way that he could and when he read the bible for the first time, speacially the Gospels, He repented of his doings and gave up his killing , served time in jail and died there,
OPCN1 3 months ago
@OPCN1 With regards to your point about this "Jefrey Dummer" you speak of, I say - so what? I'm sure there have been examples of religious terrorists renouncing their religion and therefore their terrorist acts. Your point proves nothing.
Wrong, just because the gospel isn't true does not mean that people should have no hope. I have no idea how you managed to think that. No feelings have been hurt and thank you for encouragement with regard to my girlfriend, I appreciate it. :)
FrankieSayRelaxxx1 3 months ago
christianity is bad, and you are wrong.
OPCN1 3 months ago
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 I never will discuss with you that we need to believe in God to be good and to have good moral ethics, but you do need the existence of God to have Objective Moral values. The only reason I gave you examples of Jaffrey Dummer, is because He embraced Darwinism. And I never said to you that religion is good or that it never used wrong measures against people. But point me out any wrong doings in the Gospel or that Jesus told them to commit? Because what you are saying is that
OPCN1 3 months ago
@FrankieSayRelaxxx1 And I ask you. How can u care about the wrong doings that people did with each other, the pain they caused, if God doesn't exist then there's no value in life, we are just pieces of matter walking on this earth waiting for death to knock on our door and to fall dead and the grave is the end? So why are u so concern? In your point of view there's no God then there's no Objective Moral Values, then I think that what they did was right to them according to their choices, right?
OPCN1 3 months ago

OPCN1 3 months ago
@OPCN1 i think the Park thing is a bit of an exaggeration, but even if I were to grant you that, the high suicide rates is basically the only real shortcoming of Japanese society. A society that strives for excellence and perfection to the extent that the Japanese do is always going to have high suicide rates, because there are always going to be large numbers of people who simply do not have the ability to perform to the standards they consider to be so extremely important. @FrankieSayRelaxxx1 No one embraces faith in Jesus Christ based solely on factual evidence. Equally, no one rejects Christianity or loses their faith solely because of a lack of facts. I would ask readers, whether Christian or not, to explore the life of Jesus fully aware that we form our views on the big questions (and the small ones) through a range of factors.

DrNikol2007 6 months ago
