Of course, different schools teach different practices, but "singing on the consonants" is widely spread amongst us who study the traditional music of Sweden.
Sweden is actually the biggest exporter of music per capita of the world! We have govermentrun music school so all children can learn to play instruments early in their life. We do listen to swedih music, we have a big market for swedish songs and swedish muscicians, but we also listen to english music ofc because culturlly the anglican world dominates us.
I am from Germany, originally from Turkey. Since few weeks, I listen Swedish Music (seeing here on Youtube), and I must say, Swedish songs (no matter if folk, pop or techno) are always nice. For Example, I have listened any swedish song like Sibel Redzep /Niklas Strømsted, Sista morgonen or techno (song meaning in English: her name is Anna, by BassHunter_Dota ?), I am very sold on Swedish songs, to listen Swedish Music is enjoying.
Now, I know why so many famous Singers come from Sweden, but I can't understand why Swedish people listen mostly stupid English Music although they have nice Music in their own language. Okay, on the one side I have understanding for that, to became famous worldwide they singing in English (ABBA, Roxette....), but at home, why they mostly listening English and not in beautiful Swedish ? It's a pity.
thank you! Sweden is actually the biggest exporter of music per capita of the world! We have govermentrun music school so all children can learn to play instruments early in their life.

Is it normal to roll the r like she does? I find it a bit over the top. Or is this typical of older Swedish songs?
Thanks for posting the video! The song is so simple and beautiful.

1
Som en eld och som ett väder,
som en tanke som en dröm,
som en bro av tunna bräder
brytes av den minsta ström,
som en brand bland spån och stickor,
som en gnista ibland krut,
så är kärleken hos flickor:
tändes snart, men slocknar ut.
krossafcheg 3 years ago
2
Som en ek på klippan rotad,
som en jude i sin tro,
som en vall av böljan hotad,
som en tärna på en bro,
som en lönn som riset sparar
och som Noak i sin ark,
så är kärleken hos karlar:
tändes sent, men brinner stark.
krossafcheg 3 years ago
5th line should read:
"Som den lön som Nisse sparat" according to Bondeson's collection.
domramalaja 3 years ago
3
Som ett skepp förutan segel,
som en brandvakt utan sax,
som en penning utan prägel,
som en bistock utan vax,
som en krog, där ej finns dricka,
som en fästmö utan ring,
så är gossen utan flicka:
usel och ett ömkligt ting.
krossafcheg 3 years ago
Last line according to Bondeson:
"Uselt och ett ömkligt ting."

4
Som en herre utan pengar,
som en trädgård utan frukt,
som fiolen utan strängar,
som en blomma utan lukt,
som en väg som var man känner,
där som inte färdas fås,
så är flickor utan männer:
svaga käril, ja gunås!
krossafcheg 3 years ago
6th line reads in August Bondeson's Visbok:
"men som intet färdas fås,"

It's a love song about man is nothing without a woman. And she sings about examples: the sea without sand, birds without wings etc..
Donegal 4 years ago
Like an oak rooted in a cliff
Like a Jew in his faith
Like a bank threatened by a wave
Like a tern on a bridge
Like a maple spared in brushwood
And like Noah in his ark,
That's how love is with men:
Lights slowly, but burns strong
mzaliwa 4 years ago
Like a ship without a sail
Like a fireward without shears
Like a penny without imprint
Like a beehive without wax
Like an inn where there's no drink
Like a betrothed without a ring,
Is a lad without a maiden:
A poor and wretched thing
mzaliwa 4 years ago
Like a Lord without money
Like an orchard without fruit
Like the fiddle without strings
Like a flower without scent
Like a road where you know
That you cannot get to go
So are girls without menfolk:
Weaker vessels, mercy yes!
mzaliwa 4 years ago
Like a fire and like thunder
Like a thought, like a dream,
Like a bridge with thin boards
Is broken by the least stream
Like a flame in sticks and shavings
Like a spark in gunpowder,
That's how love is with maidens:
Lights easy but dies out.
mzaliwa 4 years ago
The verses have got in the wrong order.
It should be;
1. like a fire
2. like an oak
3. like a ship
4. like a Lord
