  • I so love this!!!

  • man violinists must have the strongest arms........

  • @SirToby21

    I feel exactly the same.

  • who could not like this song xD i love it

im sorry but u have no taste in composition an the different sounds of the instruments playing as one

  • With this movement, I am imagining the blossoming of the USA. The West opens up as infrastructure swells across the country. Here is New York and skyscrapers rise suddenly beam upon beam; meanwhile on the prairies, here is the rail road finally taming the frontier. Yes, there are challenges but growth and modernisation sweep them aside. And here are the cosmopolitan elites, the industrialists and financiers; the new nobility parading their wealth like the courts of Europe. Gorgeous!

  • excelent

  • When I was ten I used to belt around the pavements on my Raleigh chopper with this rattling round in my head as i peddled faster...

  • Catherine.

  • mate, this tune was made earlier than your grant father was born and still it sounds massive.fuck lady gaga and other midstream bullshit.this will never die.no one will remember some idiotic copycat wearing meat suit in ten years.. think about that..

  • This is my favourite movement, right next to the 4th one.

7:12- 7:56 That part makes me feel so great!

  • best movement of New World Symphony!

  • What is it with everybody downing John Williams? If anything, everyone should be happy that he, along with nearly 400,000 other people were inspired by this wonderful music. Most composers, especially modern ones, have to have some sort of influence, or at least are going to sound like they are influenced.

  • Ninety-Nine Nights!

  • something i noticed is that a lot of times it sounds like The Nutcracker. is there a reason for that?

  • @futurecsi1 it probably does because both pieces were written by composers of the same musical era. also, they were written about one year apart.

  • @futurecsi1 Very simple answer to that: Both Dvorak and Tschaikovsky were Slavs. Slavonic music is the sweetest music of all.

  • @futurecsi1 Tchaikovsky and Dvorak are from the same period of romanticism, also Tchaikovsky had some influence over Dvorak, that might have to do with some of the similarities you may found

  • it's amazing to see such musicianship. these are masters of the trade.

  • im a metalhead and i love dvorak and classical music

  • Have you noticed, that all the people who watch this, are rather intelligent in comparison with the trolls on other videos? I just noticed.

  • @MrXxarr0wxx Classical music is great, but liking it does not make you inherently intelligent.

  • I love every bit of this symphony and after I played it, as a viola player, in an amateur symphony orchestra I hear even more what is happening and enjoy it even more. For example from about 1.30 the wind instruments play the melody, but hear the delicate strings-accompaniment. And such things happen throughout the piece. Throughout Dvorak.

  • @feliks45 As a muscians we are all the time listening not only to the melody but also to whet the other instuments are giving to the composition. It is amazing how chords can bring such a great combination of different thoughts on people at the same time.

  • Interesting, as for me this is my most favorite movement...

  • @LinguistTroubadour I'm really torn between the 3rd and 4th. The 3rd has this subtle appeal, like "Oh yeah, the 4th is the crowd pleaser, but this one's the best!"—and yet, the 4th is AWESOME. So I just don't know.

  • I find it rather sad that as you progress through the movements, the comments become less and less. To enjoy a cake you do not just stop at the icing. Sure the 1st movement is great but to fully comprehend what Dvorak was trying to say you must listen to it all.

  • @BLAcSHIELd ... I actually like the 3rd movement the best, haha. But I think what it is, is that everyone who has something to say about the entire symphony in general says it in the first movement.

  • @BLAcSHIELd Untill you get to the 4th movement, which is the most popular.

  • Williams probably also took (or stolen) some of this piece for his music for star wars

  • Dvorak, why so epic?

  • Hey @DublinPhilarmonic : Please DO SELL the DVD of this magnificent video!!!!

  • people who would dislike this huh? with a simplistic way of thinking a variety of answers pop out

    1) deaf people not being able to hear such a masterpiece, being jealous of people who can

    2) people who are addicted to the color red

    3) mentaly dead people

    4) trolls (people who feed on the misery, sadness, anger of others)

    5) plain dislikers who do it out of a hobby being part of the people who protest against all the others

though i can believe it's hard for people to believe that

  • Just Superb!

  • minute 1:47 T_T

  • Well, I was thinking about what a good comment for this music would be. But I figured there weren't a single comment who portrayied the beuty of this music, so I decided to make a bad comment about that.

  • é simplesmente perfeita! perfeita!

    É o meu movimento preferido!!!!

Além da belissima musica, a orquestra também foi brilhante!

  • love it..

  • love it!

  • What drives people to push the dislike button for this video?

Ok, normal statistic deviation, i guess.

  • @StartbahnWest no appreciation for music ohhh this greatness.....but if they knw they are gonna push the dislike button they should just not watch the vid and go to something else like seriously

  • @StartbahnWest the poor audio and visual quality, I would imagine.

  • @asl19999 The audio quality is actually pretty good. Not the best, I would say, but still pretty good.

  • Just unbelievable

  • this music makes me happy.

  • ¿que tiene que ver Jesus en esta maravilla? Todos los creyentesno podeis pensar en que los artistas cono este y todos son hombres sin piel que se les da, la poesia. la musica. las artes.comoflor de inmensidad

  • Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is music.

  • They making a movie about Dvorak!!! The movie would be about him and the town that inspired him. The movie maybe called spillvillethemovie I can't wait for this.

  • Why does everybody have to compare this piece to Star Wars?

It's like comparing a diamond to a piece of of cement.

  • @lsjiang00 Because Good 'ol John ripped this off for star wars I. Just like Jaws... keep listening....

  • @lsjiang00 Respectively of course, right?

  • @lsjiang00 williams took most of his inspiration for that score from Holst anyhow. I don't see the similarity

  • @lsjiang00 Well, careful. I don't think Star Wars' music is just "cement". But yes, this one is "diamond".

  • @lsjiang00 So your saying Star Wars is bad? Compared to Dvorak...thats like comparing a tree to a phone...they are two irrelevant things, no real continuity to each other, in different categories.

  • Genius

  • That piece of music is totally awesome. There is something in classical music, especially Dvorak's, that makes people souls fly high.

Of course not only Dvorak made such incredible music. Also Chopin, Beethoven and others, as well.

I think that there is three most fantastic experiences for human soul. Meeting Jesus in the Holy Communion, enjoying the beauty of nature (mountains, ocean,

other landscapes) and listening the masterpieces of classical music.

  • @Szymono101

meeting jesus aka sharing love with our men/women

  • isn't beautliful? (l)

  • ok, so i'm not the only one who thinks this sounds a tiny bit like star wars (or rather, the other way around)

  • Remarkably, the conductor uses every inch of his body. From toes to his hair, putting movement in the music. Great ! And besides that, he must have a good tailor since his outfit just doesn’t get disturbed.

  • maybe they are 10 angry welsh musicians

  • Thank you from the Czech Republic, the birthplace of Antonin Dvorak. ;o)

  • Thank you from the Czech Republic, the birthplace of Antonin Dvorak.

  • Dvorak is great! hearing this when I wake up puts chills up my spin.

By The way , 10 people missed "like" button ?

  • is it weird that i want to headbang to dvoraks music??

  • @SirToby21 no way...

  • @SirToby21 Not at all

  • @SirToby21 Not sure if likes mean yes or no (----__----)

  • @SirToby21 Hell no man.... been doin it since my high school marching band did this movement in our field show.

  • @SirToby21 no it's not lml

  • @SirToby21 Just a little bit. :) I hate the ones that say "Classical music is relaxing" that's exactly the opposite!

  • 10 people need to fix their mistake, I'm sure it was an accident, no one else would have pressed dislike.

  • great music

  • have always loved this piece

  • This Symphony is, more accurately, entitled 'From the New World.' It was written when Dvorak was in Amerca as director of the National Conservatory in New York. He was homesick for his native Czechoslovakia at that time. Dvorak is, often, regarded as a 'pupil' of Brahms but, in reality, he is a decendant of Schubert as the overflowing of melody in his works show.

  • John Williams completely stole that motif in Duel of the Fates from this piece.

  • @goateeguy11221122 thats right!

  • @goateeguy11221122 that's what i thought too!!!!!!!!

  • Star Wars moment @ 3:03!! I can't believe Dvorak copied George Lucas!

  • @jwunschie14

oh my gosh :D I cant stop laughing :D well Star Wars was Long ago in a far away galaxy...maybe Dvorak made a trip there and stole that theme LOL ROFLMAO

  • @jwunschie14 pro tip: john williams wrote the music, not george lucas.

  • @jwunschie14 yup. and beethoven also copied star wars in his 5th symphony. im sure you'll recognize those four notes ;P

  • When ever listen to some of John Williams' work I hear traces of Dvorak.

  • there is a cd, i got it at home. but i actually don't know where i got it from -.- sorry!! This piece of melody is awesome. i really really like it!! Dvorak was such a great composer...

  • I almost passed out from holding my breath from 5:20 to 5:55.

  • Merry Christmas at 3:10 !!!

  • extreme epic at 1:35 until 2:12. but then again from 2:12 until the end! mwahahaha such intense melody! how did he sleep with this going through his mind. He must have been plagued with nightmares. This could be in star wars as they execute order 66 or something...

  • i like this one more than his fourth movement. Scarier too! at 0:27.

  • Unfortunatly Dvorak was also a victim of of the "Ninth Symphony Syndrome" along with Beethoven, Mahler, and many others.

  • Do they have this on a CD that I can buy?

  • @lordcrull I had a look on their website, and although they have links to shops ect, they don't seem to sell New World. If you still want it, why not try Amazon. My copy this is on LP and I only have excerpts of it. I've got to get round to getting a good version of this too.

  • I always thought dvorak's opening was an homage to Beethoven, not a direct copy.

  • excellent

  • This is good. Better than Karajan's for me searched with "from the new world mov 3".

    これは良い。"from the new world mov 3" で検索したカラヤンのより私にはより良い。

  • stop arguing guys just listen to the beautiful music :)

  • impreeeeeeeeeeeeeessive... is it me or it feels as if John Williams had borrowed this a little for the star wars ost????

  • The instruments and the style is similar, and it could inspire Williams.

  • @0MrSiegel0

I believe that John Williams actually used Erich Korngold's soundtrack to King's Row as a template piece for Star Wars... If you want to hear some uncanny similarities, I suggest you listen to that piece! :)

  • this peice sounds simaller to beethoven's 9 symphony in the beggining

  • @ninjalikesweapons Yes, the first few notes are nearly the same as in the second mvt in beethoven's 9, but to be honest I like much more how dvorak did it...

  • @ninjalikesweapons Yes, the first few notes are nearly the same as in the second mvt in beethoven's 9, but to be honest I like much more how dvorak did it...

  • wonderbar @_@ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In my opinion: the second movement too fast, the third too slow. i'm a fan of bernsteins interpretation.

  • Magnificent.

  • john williams is thief

  • @GregyGregyGregyGregy Well, I guess that makes Dvorak a thief for using African American and Native American music in this work.

  • Than everyone after bach is a thief , because everyone uses his vocal scale.

  • @Hidarite100 Because Bach TOTALLY did not *learn* music, he invented it. Singing too, cause no one thought of that before he did. And of course, he invented the organ in his spare time.

The way some people talk you might think that Bach *studied* older musicians and musical traditions like today's composers. And then there's the myth about the priest who had a near identical, yet somewhat less refined vocal scale decades before Bach

In case no one picked it up, I'm being sarcastic.

  • incredible

  • this 'john williams' sounds like an original one...

  • Listen penis breath, John Williams doesn't rip off Dvorak any more than Dvorak ripped off Beethoven or Beethoven ripped off Mozart.

In the notes for Beethoven's 5th symphony, Beethoven had transcribed note for note certain passages from Mozart's 40th, and big surprise, parts of it sound exactly alike. It's just a thing musicians do.

  • both of them are amazing, i like beethoven more, but doesnt care, geniously would never be understood by us, at least we can enjoy some or their thoughts, and we should be happy with that

  • Lay off the language. Dvorak is an inspiration to any and almost all composers, whether it be for Movies, Cartoons, or Video Games!

  • Besides this, John Williams is clearly "inspired" by Mars from The Planets by Gustav Holst.

  • @Jsdo1980 sounds a lot like it!

  • If you listen to the 4th Movement, then you hear the Jaws theme, so yeah, I guess John Williams did take some things from Dvorak

  • I can hear John Williams's Duel of Fates at the beginning of this movement.

    Just downbeat of course.

  • I can hear John Williams's Duel of Fates at the beginning.

    Just downbeat of course.

  • Its not uncommon. John Williams, in my view, is the greatest composer alive today

  • john williams is more of an arranger...all of his ideas are sooo very close to other compositions.

  • @wat870 what about hans zimmer?

  • I had the same reaction the first time I heard this some 40 years ago. No doubt he was influenced by Beethoven. Who wasnt? The differences become more and more apparent the more you hear it.

  • There are parts of this that sound very similar to some of the motifs and phrases used in some Star Wars music.

I'm guessing that the composer for the star wars music borrowed from Dvorak?

  • heavily, also Holst

  • i was thinking the same thing

btw the compposer for star wars was john williams

  • just realized that this mvm sounds really similar to beethoven 9th symphony's 2nd mvm. was this intentionally written like that or is it pure devorak's inspiration? does anyone know?

  • He study many of Beethoven's work...Dvorak couldn't help but become influenced by Beethoven since it was Beethoven who set the stage for this kinda tempo...Also, Beethoven was tutored by Haydn and Mozart (briefly before Mozart died)

  • just realized that this mvm sound very similar to beethoven's 9th symphony's 2nd mvm. was this intentionally written like that? does anyone know?

  • In the opening notes of the third movement of his Symphony No. 9 (The "New World"), Antonín Dvořák pays homage to the scherzo of this symphony with his falling fourths and timpani strokes. from wikipedia, according to ^ Steinberg, Michael. "The Symphony: a listeners guide". page 153. Oxford University Press, 1995.

  • @shift0 i never realized that. awesome!!!

  • 3:00 is also sublime

  • OMG!! Viola Crescendo in 2:00 i love i adore!! 3rd and 4th movments i love this symphony and Tchaikovsky Sahrazad and Swan lake

  • Masterful use of rhythm in 3!

  • hi peter

  • this is great.

    Peter

  • favourite movement of new world symphony no.9 by dvorak. sounds so contemporary - some parts sound like the music at funfairs/ fairgrounds/ circus's not that i like them very much. but sounds so sweet - and the trills

  • the flute player looks like paul mccartney...

  • haha he totally does!

  • yes he was...in fact "the duel of fates" (one of williams most famous pieces) used several original motifs from the opening of this particular piece....coincidence

  • Wow.

  • ballin'!!!

  • What Orchestra is this? They are young yet vetern...

  • dvorak was a genius

  • They took the tempo a bit too fast...but it's still really good. This is my favorite movement from the New World Symphony...:D

  • Favorite Dvorak song :]

  • all mouvment are magnifissent u just heve to listen (by your hard)

  • especially for the double reeds and brass, it has to be near impossible...goodness

  • It takes a lot of focus, energy, and enthusiasm.:) I played this movement with the orchestra I'm currently in.

New World Symphony is just wonderful.

  • It's like a film composer trying to be Brahms.

  • Decent, would be good for the violinists to work on not being so jerky with their bows. & is the 3rd movement supposed to be played in allegro-prestissimo during the first part?

  • Damn, in some moments (eg. 0:10 0:50 5:20) it sounds almost like it was written by some modern post-minimalist, and that piece of music is more than century old.

Somehow Dvorak works sound "more fresh" than that of other composers of his time.

    Pretty amazing....

  • i completely agree with u

    100%

this piece of work sounds as if it were written recently

  • Completely true. If I didn't know it was Dvorak, I would swear it was modern. This guy's awesome!

  • @major256 I am a Classically trained Flautist and I have said since the 1970's that John Williams (who I LOVE) was absolutely inspired by ANTONIN DVORAK!!! Thank GOD for DVORAK and GUSTAV HOLST because without them STAR WARS would not be as GREAT!!!

  • @major256 Actually, this piece is about Longfellow's "Song of Hiawatha." The "minimalist" style was meant to depict the musically "simple" Native Americans.

  • @major256 Good point, I think Dvorak's american influence plays a big role here, since a lot of modern days music is based on american roots.

  • he is going faster than the actual tempo :P but still nice

  • I love Dvorak, and this performance is just amazing.... dekuji, thanks for posting

  • The conducter uses every limb on his body..arms, hands, feet, nose, fists, mouth. But no music to conduct from before him, or am I mistaking ?!

  • I think you're right! Wow

  • The conductor uses everything on his body. Arms, hand, feet, nose, mouth, fists... But no music in front of him. Or am I mistaking ?!

  • The third movement is the best. Everyone needs to understand that!!!!! haha

  • exactly!!!

  • So true.

  • What type of technique is the Clarinet doing at 4:04

  • A trill...possibly...

  • All he is doing is double tounging the notes he is trilling

  • its an easy trill, i've played this piece myself in a symphony orchestra in montreal.

i think my hat goes off to the solo in the fourth movement.

  • ahh! love it!

  • dvorak is a musical genius!
