White should have a draw at 7:10 if he just avoids moving his king in front of his pawn. When you have queen against enemy pawn on the 7th rank, the pawn needs to be on the knight file or the king or queen file. If it is on the bishop or rook file the weaker side can force a draw.

Hi Jrobi , Was thinking of Q--d7 instead of kniht to d4 . Then if he takes pawn on b7 with queen , I would move f rook to b8 with devastating attack . The idea behind Q--d7 is knight on c6 protected and f rook free to come to b8 .

You know , you said on some other blitz vid that you don't learn anything from this kind of games. I believe that doing alot of em it actually improves your thinking speed and you get to see better moves more quickly.

They help if you study them, but if you don't review them and learn they don't do much. The problem with quick thinking is sometimes that gets you into trouble when you reach a decision quickly and its a bad one. That being said, it's definitely fun to blitz it out!

Yeah it is fun to play blitz games :) Anyway i'm not too good at that since i just started to play chess like 1 week ago , and moslty learned from your vids , so thanks alot ! I'm trying to learn the openings and defences now , yet still i don't have any material to learn from besides your videos.

Make sure to check out my site - there's tons of resources there to help get you started. Also, tactics practice is very important and you will see the biggest gains in the beginning by doing chess puzzles along with researching your favorite openings and working on your endgame. Keep me posted on how things go!

07:03 is a theoretical draw, since your opponent had a oppoturnity to play Kh8! Then if you take the pawn, it would have been stalemate!You can load that position to the ryblka and see that it really is a draw. Your opponent just missed that tactical shot.

I agree with PROTLxONgame, you had a check at 4:55 which would have given you white's bishop in exchange for a pawn. If I was white I would have resigned right there, but that's just me.

I definitely was almost sleeping, but it was fun to make. I haven't posted a live blitz since August 2007 and realized that I should post some more to reflect changes in my own analysis and thinking. I will do some more as time moves forward along with my other video pursuits. Blitz won't be extremely instructive, but it will be fun once and awhile.

comment on 7. ...Nc6 and 8. ...d6: I think I would've preferred 7. ...c5 (to control d4), d6, and then Nbd7, b6, Bb7, and Qc7. Of course, after ...d6, there's always the option of playing in the style of the Richter-Rauzer system and going ...Nc6 and ...Bd7 followed by ...Qc7 and probably ...Rfc8.

For example:

7. ... c5 8. d4 cxd4 9. Nxd4 d6! 10. Bf3 a6

7. ... c5 8. Bf4?! d6 -+

After 12. Qb5, I like 12. ... Qd7 (13. Qxb7?? Rab8! 14. Qa6 Rxb2 is crushing) preparing a kingside attack.

34. ... Kc5 is actually stronger - the queenside pawns that must advance. The kingside is closed.

Ke5-d6-c5 was actually unnecessary. 37. ... b5! 38. Ke3 (38. Bf7 d5!) 38. Kf2 Kf4 is 100% lost) Kd6 39. Kd5 Kc6! and White is in zugzwang. Of course, under time pressure...

I really liked the strategy after 39. g5 - using the white pawns as obstacles.

43. ... Kc3? caused you a lot of unnecessary grief. Had you stayed on c4, penetration onto d5 would've been impossible.

44. .. b5! 44. Ke3 and NOW 44. ... Kc3! 45. Ke4 b4 46. Kd5 b3 47. Ke6 b2 48. Kxf6 b1Q and wins, or the even simpler 44. ... b4!! 45. Kd2 Kd4! and the white pawns fall because their king was overwhelmed by the Black b-pawn.

By the way, there's an algorithm for queen vs 7th-rank pawn that you might want to learn. Admittedly, I don't know it that well either, but I'm learning.

I don't have an ELO rating, or use playchess. Usually I just default to my last game analysis for my current rating, although it's a bit higher at the moment. I do plan on participating in standard rated over-the-bard tournaments beginning next summer. I want to focus more on tactics, endgames, and openings more before I do so. When I start that process, I will be vlogging about it from day one. Thanks for checking out the vid!

hehe no - I went to chess club for the first time in awhile and it ended at around 11:00PM, and the club is an hour away from my place so had to drive back and decided to get a super jug of coffee to help stay alert on the highway. I paid the price in terms of not getting to sleep until just after this video. =)
