@lukaszspadlo Universally, the kyokushin syallbus has at least 31 kata. Some branches however have additional kata such as Bassai, Tekki series, and weapons like the bo and nunchaku.
OSU! I am in the Ringerike Karate Klubb in Norway, Kyokushinkai or, we changed something to Shinkyokushinkai, I dont see the difference though, and I just graduated from 8th kyu to 9th kyu, this evening, the graduation took three days, Technical first day, physical second day, and sparring third day xD really fun, but really hard as well xD I am 14 years old =P just had to tell, just so glad I graduated =P
After Oyama died Kyokushin split into many federations. The 2 largest federations are Kyokushinkaikan (IKO) and Shinkyokushinkai (WKO). Both are pure Kyokushin. The only problem is...Both also organise their own tournaments like 'world cups' and 'european opens'. Hope it will be all one again someday. Congratz on your 8th kyu grade. Osu!
ok this was a comment i made like almost a year ago when i was 12 i used to think that i was the best and i completely understand that i'm not i've been trying to apologize for this for a year now and i'm sorry to have said that.
How do you know that your technique is better then His? You don't see yourself when You're doing kata. and in kata very important is breath- attack is the most powerfull, when your lungs are filled of air in 60%. And every sensei can do kata some another- it's not false.
you say that YOU have a better thechnique than the one on the vid?!?!?!?! you prob. don't know that you LEARN kata's like this. Do you really think your sensei/shihan knows all kata's? NO. They don't know ALL they know a lot of kata's.
My understanding of the Gekisai kata is that they come from Chojun Miyagi. Since they made their way into Kyokushin through Mas Oyama they have undergone visual (and most likely practical) changes. Does anyone know how I can find out more about the meaning of the application of techniques?
The kata is pretty straight forward with the application, the last two techniques start with your oppoonent having their back to you, you deliver a srtike to the throat and at the same time a knife hand to the ribs, then you rotate the person towards you and push them away with a double palm strike
Were in you in class when they explained the part about about how mental attitude plays a part in martial arts, and how you are supposed to be humble and respectful of other practicioners?
I like the precise element of these katas...by observing the karateka performing these movements you can see how it trains the body of the student as well as creating good mental discipline
This is one of my favorite katas.

It's not about the belt. It's about the karateka and the spirit within. This is what I teach my students.
