  • She sang Isolde 28 times at the Metropolitan, including those famous 9 times with Gustav Mahler conducting, in 1908-1909. Then in, 1909-1914, Toscanini was her conductor. Her Tristans were Knote, Burrian, Urlus... Living, breathing history, this scratchy old record! It does not give any idea of the true resonance of her voice, but it does reproduce her clean line and silvery Scandinavian timbre. Fascinating.

  • This is really amazing. She brings a very feminine and almost fragile mood to her interpretation, and the voice, even with those bad sonics, sounds extremely warm and even. I like that she sings this aria of contemplation in such a calm way and then develops it into the proper climax it should have towards its end. Thus we can feel the many emotions of Isolde much more intensely.

  • Thank you she was a gem........
