This was great, I saw this as a kid and sometimes was scared of it, but now I remember it fondly....never understood though which one was the asshole, Filopat or patafil....

I saw it on TV when i was a child in Italy, maybe in 1970-72. It was one of many series made beyond the iron curtain that was aired at the time, before the japan invasion. I am glad that I still like it.

this was a east germany cartoon made in the middle of the cold war, believe it or not.

That's right, it's made by Günther Rätz.

There will be a screening next week in my local cinema theatre, here in Dresden, and Rätz will be there to talk about his early work.

I have no memories of this but when I first time saw this just recently this year, I wish to see rest of them but god damn these are hard to find :( Plain simple humor that many cartoons of today lack

Very happy to see this video!

It immediately brought back happy memories growing up in Managua _back in the 70's_ where it was known as "Filopat y Patafil".

Too bad they don't make simple shows like these anymore! Too bad there aren't any dvd's on it either because I'd love to share this wonderful show with my kids too! 

By the way, although the introduction soundtrack might sound French, this is really a German made series.

My mother tells me I used to love this show when I was about three years old. She obviously didn't see the smoking and drinking.

Thanks for posting! I didn`t see this program since 1981 at Channel 5 UCV-TV from Chile and just for one season. Very very very nostalgic!

Ho boy!...this makes me remember when I was a kid,watching TV in pyjama.The jingle at the beginning,the weird sountracks and the absurds stories will always stay in my mind...from which country? Agree with you lethorja: you wont see much cig smoking, putting fire, drinking wine & drowning in todays kid's program. Thanks thingol61
