Israel is a mess because of the ethnic differences between European and Arab Jews and between Jews and Arabs and between Israelis and Palestinians. It is more of a geographic and demographic problem than one based on the structure of government.

Italy consists of many nations tied together as though they were one. Italy is virtually the same as Yugoslavia. Hell look at what is happening in Spain with the Basque people.

If you want to argue that PR is so horrible, please use exact instances that cannot be argued as something spurious. And yes I know Ireland has a different system as compared to Italy or Israel, but it would still work differently and better because Ireland is not a multi-national state with regions like Friuli or Tuscany that want to secede. Italy is full of regional parties and each of these regional parties seek secession. Italy will dissolve.

And unlike Israel, Ireland is not situated near any aggressive neighbors. The United Kingdom is hardly what I would call "aggressive." So Ireland would be different

Australia has a problem with its association of land. There are only a few heavily Urban spots and much jungle and desert. Australia is hard enough for the Anglo people just to inhabit the land. And you also have a bit of conflict of interest between the Natives and Anglo as well as Chinese immigrants.

Proportional representation can work in the United States, but only in certain parts like New England, New York, and the Urbanized areas of New York, Virginia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
