I live in seymour,Indiana and I went to our national guard armory and saw BRUISER and his son-in-law Spike Huber VS. BO BO and Paul CHRISTIE.This was in the Mid 70's.It was great
does anyone have the tape of Don Muraco eating his lunch in the ring versus some jobber that they can post? One of the great moments in wrestling history
having grown up in Chicago, Bob Luce was DA MAN and Sam Menecker was his trusty sidekick announcer. if you were a wrestling fan, the 2 went hand in hand.
I was at this match in Chi town in 74 went back stage to get an autograqph and heenan was on his knees performing a bj on dick the bruisier I was only 8 and mortified!
The front row seats were actually in the stands for this card. The fans were pissed off because of it. The seats around ringside are for special patrons only, like the realitives.
I went to most of the Comiskey Park extravaganzas in the early 70's. Luce called them the Super Bowl(s) of Wrestling. They were the precursers of the pay per view events. I never saw this one. It must have been in the fall of 1974 right after I left home to go to college in Champaign.
Monsoon was also the best big man ever. He was agile, had great stamina and a vast knowledge of wrestling since he was NCAA Champion. Greatest big man ever
Bob Luce had some great, classic wrestling footage, but he was without a doubt the worst commentator of all time. He was more of a carnival barker then anyone Vince has put in the broadcast booth in the last 20 years. He talks alot but he says nothing. Luce's commentary is the reason they created the mute button.
yeh, I noticed that comment by Bob Luce about Bobo being the best "black" wrestler. But, to be fair, he meant it as a compliment and such a comment wouldn't be unusual for someone of his generation.
Does anybody else remember when Cowboy Bob Ellis defeated Dick the Bruiser on television in 1959 in Windsor. The Bruiser had been defeating wrestler after wrestler weee after week until Ellis beat him in 2 out of 3 falls on tv. However, in two rematches at the Olympia Stadium in Detroit the Bruiser defeated Ellis by throwing him over the third rope when Ellis jumped up a little trying to apply his finishing move, the bulldog headlock. Great matches!
I saw Dick the Bruiser wrestle Johnny Valentine at the Internaional Amphitheatre in Chicago bakc in the Mid 60's. What a Bloodbath!!! A woman fainted after she looked down at the ring and saw all the blood. At the time, Bruiser's signature move was the 'Throat Stomp'. Anyone out there remember
Remember when Pepper Gomez told the Bruiser that he could do anything he wanted to his stomach and he could take it. The Bruiser brought out a ladder and after several trips up and down the ladder, carefully aligning Pepper and adjusting the ladder, the Bruiser came off of the top rung onto (you guessed it) Pepper's throat. A classic.
I do remember that. It's a gimmick he apparently did several times. I saw it on Bob Luce's wrestling program on Channel 44 in Chicago. And, in one tag match some wrestler rammed Heenan's head into Pepper's belly and Heenan sold it like being rammed into a steel post.
I was in the "Golden" Moose Cholak fan club and the the T-shirt that advertised Moose on one side and Candor Electric on the other. It also came with a gold membership card.
5858 Western Ave. for the Ben's Auto Sales hot buy of the week. And don't forget BoBo Brazil shopping at One Stop Food & Liquors where he buys his ribs by the 30 pound case.
Talk about your Action! I grew up with the Great AWA cards and this sure brings back the memories of the Great Bobby Heenan, The Crusher, Dr X, Dick the Bruiser, Mad Dog and Butcher Vachone, Verne Gagne, Bed Bastien, Pepper Gomez. This was an era when Wrestling was Wrestling and the fans loved to hate the villans.
in indiana, i grew up watching dick the bruiser, pepper gomez, wilber snyder, bobo, the valiant brothers with bobby heenen as the manager. wow!! thanx for the clip.
Just to let you know... I recently saw Abdullah's shoot video... and he stated that he owes his crazy persona and love of blood spilling from the Sheik. I'm a big fan of the Butcher's myself but the Sheik is the king of hardcore, nobody comes close, not even Abby.
Bob Luce would always do a "Hold of the Week" in which the bad guy would stretch some hapless cameraman. My fave memory was Jimmy Valiant bashing the head of Moose Cholak during a weightlifting contest.
oh man, i remember watching this shit on our little black and white set in the kitchen when i was small. saturday afternoons on channel 44 or something, and then there'd always be a godzilla movie on afterwards.
I believe this was from Bruiser's WWA promotion. Need some more WWA matches on YouTube...like the match where Steiner beat Wojciechowski for the WWA World title.

It was Sailor Art Thomas, not Seaman Thomas...lousy announcer. Nice cameo of Pampero Firpo getting flamed by the Shiek...
bigpharmarules 2 years ago 2
Actually it was both. Thomas was variously called "Seaman" or "Sailor" Art Thomas depending what promotion he was in. He was legit former Navy.
Lfdjake91 2 years ago 2
Thanks, Lfdjake. I was not aware of that. I guess you only saw the local promotions back in the day.
bigpharmarules 2 years ago
I think they phased out "Seaman" because it sounded too much like "semen". Not good to have the boys thinking you're being called "sperm"
