but im really torn if i should get this phone over the iphone 3gs (and or wait for a better version of n97 or the n900)...

one thing that keeps me from wanting an iphone 3gs is its lack of video calling and low megapixel camera, but other than that its great from apps to conductive touch screen...

while the n97 i like because of the videocall, media files BUT thing i hate is the receptive touch screen, feels old, and its symbian and laggy

The OEM stereo headphones are garbage. Once you lose them for a good aftermarket pair, the sound quality is amazing for a phone. And it's got a custom equalizer that Apple refuses to give people on any of their devices or even ipods. Hey, how did the N97 handle the MP4 video format, what's the best format to conver to, and what did you use to convert the videos to the correct formats?

it's sad that N97 doesn't have hardware encryption and it's extremely slow compared to other phones in the same class...

keypad is disappointing too, it's made too flat and really hard to get used to.

Great review, good sense of humor, too. I have one question for you if you have a couple of minutes to spare... I'm a system administrator who has quite a number of mailboxes and needs to access a number of things like servers via SSH and IRC servers with IRC clients and so forth. I've deduced the Nokia N97 with its Symbian OS would probably be the best for the above, but would you argue differently? Your opinion would be much appreciated.

It depends, it supports microSD cards. Im quite sure there is (or will be) a 32bg card but the largest i've seen in a store so far is 16gb.

A positive review of the N97 :O why I have yet to see such a thing with the likes on Gizmodo, Engadget and others gives it thumbs down. Great review, I found it very informative and entertaining. My dad has the N97 and I agree with your final points about the phone with the great sliding mechanism and nice qwerty and about the looks of S60 but if Satio's UI can be put on the N97 it's a winning combo. I'll be looking forward to more reviews from you in the future.
