A 9 inch screen is the smallest I can handle, and that is with difficulty. I'd like to see this in a package with a 9" screen that could be folded closed like a net book, or folded over to to be used like a touch screen tablet. N mention of a built in microphone or speakers.
I think it can be used in several field applications. e.g. a bird watcher can find rare birds by online search, take expert help while outdoor. eGovernance is another area where this can be deployed. Can be used in UID program of Govt of India to collect info from people...
Exactly... It seems they've already tested this device on the field.. The fingerprint scanner will act as an identity acceptor, they're gonna go to villages and fill out forms and such using that method... Also the amazing part is, its probably one of the first computers which can work entirely on SOLAR POWER!
It looks so, I thought so as well. But I did a bit of research about it and got to know that its just about 900 grams! You cannot compare this with something like iPad, cause this is for a completely different purpose..
Considering the fact that this device is affordable to people at the bottom of the pyramid, I guess we should expect an intensely low price compared to the features it provides. :)
if we see the features it is amazing .features like touch screen,gps,3g,fingerprint reader, solar charging, web cam, multi language,e reader, usb port,64gb external mmc staorage, linux OS are unbelievable in one small device.we can use it as a note book also to write on the screen.
i dont think any company has come out with brilliant idea of solar charging which will be of great use for any device using outside the charging area.i think govt should promote these type of goods & give some subsidy to those who use alternative power.
It's Really amazing............ Great Invention By DSK people, I think It will be the next Gen Computing device with all latest features.
Also the solar recharging will help to reduce the global warming ................. Greenery will be everywhere , too good............. looking forward for it's Price,
everyone should use these type of gadgets to help the earth and themselves.....
mobilis is an excellent device, it is a one stop solution for most of the application device. For the people working on field and in remote location it is a boon as it has all the utility of modern days notebook plus additional features like solar panel , smart card reader and duplicator. It is a green computing device which one could dreamt of. Thanks to the people who had put the idea into reality. i am sure it will change the way people uses the computing device
Nice device. If they come out with good pricing options, I think it will be very helpful in taking the technology to rural areas and definitely help in health, governance etc. Would be curious to know its price.
The thought and concept behind this product of having the device 'solar powered', work on an extremely low energy is really unique and worth applauding. Also, the idea of having the solar panels as part of the computer bag is too good.
the solar panel provided in the carry-case is a v good idea. Can the panel be used independently for other applicatiions such as low-powered lighting etc
Amazingly multi-packed device for rural and rurban [rurals on periphery of urban] areas, especially with that solar panel provided in the carry-case! Yes, as some ppl hv commented, it may b a bit slow and bulky but it appears to hv been designed to provide many facilities for less cost. If it IS so it should be made clear to the viewer by the narrator.
Saw the device and am amazed by the features and peripheral support that it has. OMAP3 processor, Two smart cards, fingerprint, 8+ hours battery life, solar panels, mmc slots , USB ports, wifi, SIM card, 2 SAM cards, camera, touchscreen, touchpad, qwerty keyboard. The design is a mesh between a laptop and a webtablet . The audience that the device targets is healthcare, e-learning, e-governance etc.
For your information, this product is not designed as a high end product. Its for the poor sections of the society to help educate them in countries like India, Brazil and many parts of Africa too... So its not for rich people basically. They've designed it this way to make it as cheap as possible...

Frankly, I think the device is a bit clunky. It does not have the sleekiness of other (possibly technically weak) devices.
However, it is power-packed with features and it definitely has a market.
