My favorite "mom" story. This song came out right around the time the move "The Exorcist" was still playing. My mom, a very religious woman, was convinced this was on the soundtrack and forbade it as Satanic music because it had the lyric "evil woman" in it (true story). Of course a couple of years later I was a teen and realized that far from being satan's henchman, Jeff Lynne was, in fact, touched by the finger of God himself and blessed with amazing musicianship.
Another fine example of what music should be. Simply brilliant. And I can't seem to get enough of Jeff laughing at poor Hughie getting enveloped by the fog. Long live the best band ever.
Sure wish they could played the whole song, it irratates me when they do that, however this is an excellent hit!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanx for sharing this!!!!
There is an instrumetal part before Jeff Lyne says "you made a fool of me..." and the single does not have where he starts to say "You've made a fool of me..." and the part with the girl voice is not as long before that back ward string instruement part comes on.
Jeff looks a bit like Yes bassist Chris Squire in this clip. Interesting that Richard is miming the acoustic piano on a Wurlitzer electric piano and the Clavinet part on a Mini-Moog.
I feel sorry for Kelly in this clip. He's hidden in the background. You almost can't see him in most of the clip.
You can see Bev smirking and kind of egging Jeff on while he's singing. Leading to Jeff finally breaking out in laughter at Hugh. Looks like they had a good time tho, except for Hugh. =D
you're welcome rizo. Glad I could spot it and point it out. I said Bev does a lot of gestures, but I meant to say, he does a little bit of gestures in other videos.
I was really hooked on ELO from the '70s to "Xanadu"('80s). I think I remember watching this show latenight- a British music show that was on Saturday nights late. They were also on the "Midnight Special" a few times.
ELO was certainly great!! The orchestration of the band was incredible. Really funny what happened with the smoke machine and Hugh being a true professional just kept on playing.Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan are laughing at the out of control smoke machine!!!
With a talented bunch of musicians,no wonder they were called THE ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA. One of rock's true and great bands.
Amen. This was the song that made me an ELO lifetime member at the age of 17. 32 years later, I can vividly remember my '71 Montego and a beautiful blonde next to me. OK, so she's my ex now. lol She's still sexy and I still love ELO!!
Hilarious! Poor Hugh and all that fog dumping down on him. Wrong place, right time. I love that he continues playing like he doesn't even notice, even with the rest of the guys busting up, laughing at it. Now THAT'S professionalism and dedication! hehe
this song is on gta IV
