  • What's a little disappointing is that as the lead locomotive passed, instead of the typical EMD bell sound, it sounds like one of those cursed electronic units.

  • i have an n scale kato 1989 from cabboose hobbies

  • the government needs to privatize amtrack

  • Those Genesis units pull good and runs real good too--Im convinced, good maintenance is the key. These things run long distances everyday and dont stop, of course theyre gonna break down and have problems (remember the GP-9's??) an Amtrak engineer once told me just one of those units can pull a 40 car train easy and on steep grades with no problem, he doesnt see why they have to use 2 units pulling a 8 or 7 car passenger train.

  • @BNforever2009 Acceleration

  • awesome video!

  • @badboymrpappy Consider yourself blocked too dude. I dont need this kind of language on my page. Come talk to me when you grow up and stop acting like a child. You are the kind of person YouTube doesnt need.

  • @badboymrpappy Get a life dude...nobody cares what you think. And by the way, your caps lock is on.

  • Nice catch dude! Love that horn! And P42s arent pieces of shit. They're the best 4 axle pullers money can buy. EMD's F59PHIs arent any better really. Things break down. you gotta remember that those P42s are in constant motion, constantly running. You'll have breakdowns.....specially when your maintenance isnt all that good. Thank the government for stepping in to make Amtrak better when they're fuckin killing them.

  • @6V92TA I understand about breakdowns and everything, i work for the railroad. I was talking more about GE in general. Dont get me wrong, GEs arent all bad, and EMDs arent perfect either. But I will say, given the choice between a GE and an EMD I will ALWAYS choose an EMD. I have many of both and in the end, I think EMD makes a better product. Thanks for watching!

  • Wow!!! If the EMD product was all that, why didn't "The Government" invest in EMD product? If GE was all that bad how come ALL of the major players UP/BNSF/CSX invested in...... GE, I think all of you are faggot fucked EMD crazy... Get over it, unless you want to see Motive Power Garbage pulling passenger long haul (Amtrak) deal with GE...

  • @badboymrpappy Dear misguided and poor mannered youtube poster, I dont come to your page and shit all over your 3 crappy videos do I? In regards to your post, you are an ignorant GE fanboy. I dont know anything about the goverment investing or whatever the f*** you are talking about, but I can tell you that I am an engineer and work with GEs and EMDs on a daily basis. EMD has a better product....YOU need to deal with THAT. Come back when you have an idea of what the hell you're talking about.

  • @atsf929 if only GE didn't exist...

  • Apparently my idea of using the SD70ACe as the basis for a new E74-PHTI passenger engine isn't so far fetched as I thought.

    E - E6 style sloped front with E8/9 portholes

    7 - 70 Series

    4 - 4300 HP

    P - Pasenger duty

    H - Head end power

T - Tunnel motor (Technically, I think the low radiator intake grilles on a Genesis count too.)

    I - Isolated cab

  • @MAL6000 I would love to see that. Thanks for watching!

  • @atsf929 lol it should have a more modern front, but then again, EMD can make 2 variants, the E6 front and an F59PHI or MP36 front... and then somehow squeeze 1000 more hp into a 16V710; MPI did that with the 645 (they somehow fixed all the bugs in it)

  • the p42 was one of the best locos that mony could by at the time plus dont forget that the government is in charge of maintenence witch is the bigest problem. the govenment!!!!! any government maintenece is shit the dont want to spend the mony on repears

    love the horn to

  • AMAZING, love horn on 1989!!!!!

  • I remember a retired DRGW engineer had a photo of a UP GE locomotive he was powering over Tennessee Pass right after the merger...it had a large plume of fire coming out the exhaust vent. He said, "This is one of GE's 'Special Features'".

  • i remember this, this was an amazing day for trains in general

  • AMAZING!!! I have yet to see one of those units in person! Let alone leading Amtrak! AMAZING!!!

  • HORN HORN HORN!!!!

  • p42's suck! why can't amtrak keep EMD's like the f40?

  • @sethamtrak because the f40s had no power you need 3 f40s to do the same as 2 p42s and the sound and look beter than the f40s do

  • yeah now emd will be even more reliable because if im not mistaken i overheard caterpillar took emd over so now they are putting cat engines in them god damn, what else could you ask for

  • P42DC=Punk42DumbCrack' GE=GeneralyExploding = EMD Rules GE Sucks. How About Phase V F40PH's tier 2 emmisions Thats Better than PUnk42's

  • Why would anyone do a thumbs down on this fantastic video? It's totally awesome!!!

  • Cool

  • Nice catch. Great camera work, nice smooth zoom and pans. SD70ACe is always nice to listen to, even better to see it in Heritage paint. 5*

  • That K5LLA sounds like it could use a better tunning, but hey, I'd take it! Gotta love how a SD70ACe heritage unit manages to lead Amtrak 6.

  • The 1996 was in the shop tonight for an AI

  • Nice!

  • Hey! don't talk about my p42's like that they can be reliable. No man im joking i like em both the rio grande is a very beautiful locomotive

  • Great video! Sorry I got in, I was the one in the blue shirt.

  • Hey, no biggie man...just glad we got to see it.

  • talk about lucky. a UP heritage unit on the BNSF leading an amtrak train.

  • great video awsome sounds! 5/5

  • one thing,if EMD's are better, how can all of you explain why railroads keep buying GE's,if the old F40's were so good why amtrak made them cabbage cars, its like who's better chevy or ford.all of you should be happy that whathever is moving freight or people,is made here in the states if you dont like the genesis locos,go to the northeast and film the imported electrics, and the canadian bombardiers that might make you all happy or watch the MP36 motors, theyre not GE,but they re not EMDeither

  • Ill tell you why they buy GEs...because they are cheaper. Where this stuff is made has no bearing on why I like it more or why its better or worse. 99% of the stuff we buy everyday is made in other countries...its not something I agree with but thats the road this country is going down. Look, I work for the railroad and I operate both GE and EMD locomotives and Ill tell you that EMD makes a higher quality product. They dont crap out or burn up like the GEs...youre the only one that has a problem

  • no, the real reason GE is more popular is this whole "eco-friendly" stuff, and the fact all anyone gives a rat's ass about is saving as much as possible. i seriously doubt GE's locomotives are going to be running as well as they are now in 50 years, in comparison to the EMD SD9's, which are 55 year old locos and are still going strong in yard duties, or ALCO's that still work perfectly fine seeing ALCO went out of business in the late 60s

  • The fact that you said the GE motors wont be functioning in 50 years only further reinforces what i said earlier about EMD making a higher quality product. These days you only get what you pay for and this is a perfect example. As far as the fuel goes, why is it when i take a coal train to chicago with a GE and an EMD they both use the same amount of fuel? I seriously doubt the amount of fuel used between the 2 is that much difference that it would make a big difference in how many they buy.

  • i was agreeing with you, or at least i meant it like that

  • @fnm9908 What you seem to forget. the Northeast gets Normal Amtrak Locomotives and electrics. And Virginia West Virginia and Maryland gets MP36's.... I like both EMD and GE.

  • I also agree. Hopefully Amtrak's and other RR's future orders will be for EMD units. 5***** and favorite.

  • No doubt.

  • TOTALLY AGREE with the intro title statement!

Bring back the Amtrak EMD road units, trash the P-42's! My Amtrak engineer friend told me they were junk, that should say something about them!

    5*****'s and Great Catch!

  • and i thought i've seen it all. wow. what a once in a lifetime experience.

  • also this a great video!

    5 * and favorite

just caught this unit las week here in texas

  • Hey, I'm a GE AC6000CW and AC4400CW fan here! Not all GE's are bad! But I would take this over a P42 anyday!

  • AWESOME EMD's sound and AWESOME horn too :)

  • Dang wish i had known about that earlier i would have taken the day off from work

Still i could get used to Ace's leading AMTRAK

  • Kick ass! Too cool.

Alaska Railroad has HEP equipped SD70MAC's, Amtrak should totally ditch the GE's and go with HEP 70ACe's.

  • I totally agree....I would be happy with anything thats not a GE. Especially those P42's.....they are super ugly.

  • however, EMD's setup of drawing power from the rear truck inverter does not sit too well with acceleration in my book, but if they put a static inverter on the prime mover, more power to the wheels, better acceleration.

  • Huh, I didn't knwo that. Interesting, but from what you say, an easy fix.

  • aWESOME ! Whatt Kind Of Camera Is This?

  • Sony HDR-SR12

  • Arent ALL railroads?

  • Nice job!
