  • I appreciated this radio broadcast and there are some seriously dangerous teachings promoted by some of the names tagged above. But there also seems to be a lot of misplaced fear of encountering God at a deeper level, "mysticism" (Col 1: 26-27, John 16: 13) or strangely of living our faith all day long. Any Christianity which is relegated to only in the church building or during quiet times (that sounds rather mystical are we sure it's ok?) is no Christianity at all, see Matthew 25.

  • What's the difference between "mysticism" (oh no scary!) and prayer?

Do Nazarine's still believe that entire sanctification is provided by the blood of Jesus, that is instantaneously brought about by faith, preceded by entire consecration?

That sounds awfully mystical to me.

God is alive and He is active in our lives. We can experience His presence, come to know him (to a limited degree) and come to be like Him (with His grace). This has sometimes been described as having a relationship.

  • can't put the wine back in the wineskins after they have been ripped open. must get new wineskins and new wine.

  • STOP DESECRATING/DEMONIZING ALL THESE RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS!!!!!!! SATAN DOES NOT OWN ANYTHING. GOD OWNS AND CREATED EVERYTHING! ALLAH'S NAME, HINDU AUM, THE SWASTIKA, THE SIKH'S SYMBOL, THE LOTUS FLOWER...... THESE ARE SACRED RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS ARE OF JESUS CHRIST'. FIND OUT THEIR MEANING... YOU GUYS ARE BECOMING THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE. JESUS HAVE MERCY ON US AND WE TRUST IN YOU....

  • As a Trevecca graduate from the seventies, I know that ministerial students were going to The Abby for a week retreat way back then, before the term "Emergent" was coined. I cannot speak to what it may or may not have become. At that time, Paul Tilich at Vanderbilt was very popular among the theology students. Read up on THAT guy! I don't see much difference between the "Holy Hill" I attended and the one of today.

  • I want to help the Nazarene church on all their efforts to reach souls.

  • Interesting program. I was completely unaware of this EC movement and didn't know what a problem it was. They might as well become Unitarians rather than destroy other churches, but then again that's not what the plan is. Time to stay vigilant!

  • This is the implementation of the New Age Plan to infiltrate the churches. Research Alice Bailey and Lucis Trust.. The likes of Brian Maclaren & Bishop Spong are Satanists

  • These concerned Nazarenes need to take the advise of @Proverbs30Five and read Romans 11:33-36 because it sure sounds like they think they have God all figured out and nailed down, and they get awfully upset when you imply that they might not know it all.

  • @swisscheesehole We must know.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Timothy 4:3,4

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. 1John 2:19

  • @swisscheesehole "nailed down" lol

  • Its time that christians studied what Catholics do believe in because their beliefs are not Biblical- brief examples- pergatory, transubstantitation, worship and equality of Mary, papal infallability etc etc . They are a cult- we dont have anything in common with them as they dont believe in a Biblical Jesus- just a weak baby or a dying man.People were burned to death by Catholics who had defended true Christianity- its time we helped Catholics to see the truth

  • This video is ignorant and insulting to me.

Since when is "spiritual formation" is a bad thing? Really? That's heresy? I bet there would be no problem with all of this if the "spiritual formation" class changed its name to the "holiness formation" class. A lot of this stuff just boils down to semantics.

You insult myself and other Christians. And how dare you say that Dr. Oord is diametrically opposed to the scriptures. What even gives you the right to say something like that?

  • Comment removed

  • And just because you consider the possiblity of open-theism absolutely DOES NOT mean you have a low view of scripture. That is an ignorant statement. Read Genesis 22, and pay attention to verse 12. God says to Abraham, "NOW I know that you fear God..." (after He tested him and asked him to sacrifice Isaac). This implies that God DID NOT know before Abraham fully obeyed Him; God says "NOW I know..."

That's one example. Open deism does not mean you have a low view of scripture.

  • @swisscheesehole

Gen 22:11 identifies who speaks in v.12: "...the angel of the LORD..." not "God" as you erroneously stated. Ergo, your example of open theism fails even basic scrutiny. Aside from this fatal flaw, your reasoning also collapses when compared with scripture:

You state that 'now' "implies that God DID NOT know..." This is an interpretation from an argument from silence, whereas Isaiah 46:10 tells us that God declares "the end from the beginning...things that are not yet done..."

  • @Proverbs30Five An Angel of the LORD is a messenger of God, speaking the words of God to humans, that's the point of a messenger. Are you implying that an angel was in charge of that situation by saying that he was the one needing convincing of Abraham's faithfulness? I hope not. Not to mention that later in verse 12 it says, "you have not withheld from ME your son." If this is still talking about the angel speaking, then apparently it was the angel testing him and he was the one needing proof.

  • @swisscheesehole

Nice attempt to dodge your error but I did not state that the text had any implications other than what it actually says (that seems to be your habit, not mine). The fact remains that you were wrong when you stated "God" said ...etc. when it was not. Quoting scripture correctly is important friend!

I humbly suggest you heed Romans 11:33-36 instead of making faulty speculations - 'For who hath known the mind of the Lord?' (v.34a)

Praise God for He knows all things! Amen.

  • @Proverbs30Five

What do you mean "dodge" my error? I am merely pointing out to you "what it actually says" (to use your words), and it ACTUALLY SAYS "you have not withheld from ME your son." Please excuse my mistake in paraphrasing these verses by saying that they imply that God did not know. Apparently it was the angel who did not know and from whom Abraham did not withhold his only son. After all, that's "what it actually says."

I fear you need to take a class in exegesis or something.

  • For the last time, 'angel of the LORD' is a different set of letters to 'God' - it's quite simple! Therefore you are not pointing out "what it actually says" but what you think it means.

"I fear you need to take a class in exegesis or something" - I fear you need to take a class with the Holy Spirit and then you might understand Holy scripture; you seem to have got EISEGESIS down pretty well!

Listen friend, repent of your theories and bow before the God who knows the end from the beginning!

  • What exactly is wrong with mysticism. Let's not forget that Christianity is an EASTERN religion, that's right people, eastern. We get all upset when a Christian doesn't follow our Western perspective and claim that they are "unbiblical" when really they just don't match up with our own western/Americanized/individualized perspective of Christianity. Mysticism is not the root of all evil. Pretending that we know everything about God and Christianity, aka not allowing room for mystery, is worse.

  • @swisscheesehole For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Timothy 4:3,4

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. 1John 2:19

  • @swisscheesehole Maybe instead of spending your time playing the banjo and arguing on this site, study the Scriptures. Don't write me arguing with me. I am too busy. I came to believe in the rapture by studying the Scripture myself. I don't believe just because someone says it. "Be still and know that I am God." I think that you need to still your thoughts and really get into the Word,. Ask for wisdom. He promises to give it to all men liberally if you don't doubt when you ask.

  • @julieification

I do not appreciate your assumption that I do not study the scriptures. I do not appreciate that nor the other assumptions of "concerned" Nazarenes such as the idea that just because an intelligent individual reads a book by Brian McLaren, or Rob Bell, or NT Wright, or whomever, means that they accept every word as the whole truth. There are smart, careful, people who read these books and try to glean truth from them. All truth is God's truth.

    And playing the banjo? Really?

  • @swisscheesehole You may read the Scripture, but so what?. In fact, Satan knows Scripture evidently very well. The demons also believe and tremble. Is this true with you as well?

  • @julieification

Pulling the old "bait and switch" maneuver on me eh? Nice work. First you tell me that I need to study scriptures, then when I tell you that I do you compare me to satan. Sweet.

I just want you to understand that there are many "emerging church types" who LOVE the church, the Word of God, and the people of the world. We will all probably see each other in heaven one day (stunned, nonetheless) and God will ask us why we wasted so much time arguing in His name. Peace.

  • @swisscheesehole I suggest you love the word of God more than the "church". We are to "contend for the faith" and that can mean disagreement and disension with "christians". His Word is a "2-edged sword dividing.." The end days are going to be filled with people listening to doctrines of demons. This will be within the church walls as well. In fact, probably especially within the church walls.
