Nothing really changes so as long as you've found all the Words of Power to which the Greybeards will point you. However, if you don't kill him, you'll be able to look at yourself in the mirror without vomiting and crying.

Trust me people, this quest is not worth anything it yields. If you want proof besides what Paarthurnax said, here you go:

1. Before you can meet Paar, speaking with Argenir prompts you to answer him how do you know about Alduin's wall and shit. He will warn you that the Blades DON'T serve the Dragonborn and never have and that you're nothing but their pawn.

2.When you tell Argenir that they requested you killing Paar, he will call them "bloodthirsty barbarians" in a quite angered tone.

If you playing on pc: It is possible to complete this quest without needing to slay Paarthurnax by using command:

setstage MQPaarthurnax 100

This way, Paarthurnax will remain alive, the Greybeards will still be hospitable and the Blades will talk to you once more.

I went to talk to arngeir, he yelled at me and was really sad too and I realized everything he said was true. I was letting myself be used by the blades to do something I thought was wrong, so I reloaded a save to before I killed paarthurnax and never looked back. If you have PC Skyrim then you can download a mod called The Paarthunax Fix that lets you get though without killing him.

Kill Paarthurnax: Can continue Blades storyline. Blades offer dragon-hunting quests and a (currently bugged) potion that helps you fight dragons. Greybeards refuse to even speak to you.

Spare Paarthurnax: Greybeards will point out Words. Paarthurnax gives Word bonuses. Greybeards will allow the Dragonborn to resolve the Civil War peacefully. You get an extra ending cutscene for the main story. Delphine and Esbern won't help you anymore, but any followers in the Blades will still help you.

Oh no no. Killing Paarthurnax is an entirely different and optional quest. You haven't ruined your game, don't worry. Like the Civil War sidequest, the Paarthurax choice is mostly a moral one, supplemented by a few nice perks. Your choice represents two ideologies: killing him is pragmatic, and sparing him is idealistic. Is it murdering a kindly old atoner in cold blood, or preventing a potential Starscream from leading the dragons to a destructive war against the mortal races?

@ShoKitsune A battle I had recently with Deadly Dragons - Hard, where I had to fight against an Ancient Fire Dragon, a Nether Drake AND a Storm Dragon will likely want to speak with you. I didn't hesitate to call Odaviing, and darn was he useful... He distracted alot of heat from me, which was much needed, because even one of those dragons can hurt alot on Master. He didn't deal much damage, but he was very good at distracting

...until I accidently dragonrended Mr. Oda out of the air aswell...
