  • I like how Western historians try to clean Catherine, saying that Peter would probably have killed her if she had not killed him. dont forget it's bloody Russia, they say. but i think they simply didn't know the history of russian palace coups and the fact that the death penalty was abolished in Russia at this time. so Catherine just broke the law and secretly killed Peter.

  • @chtovimenitebemojem And she got away with it because Peter was not very popular...

  • They forgot to mention Poniatowski became the King of Poland so he wasnt only 'ambasador's secretary'.

  • @comadivine1 Yes after a coup supported by Russian troops. Who do you think was helping him to be elected as king? ;)

  • so glad I read Massie's biography on her, because while I thoroughly enjoyed this royal documentary (as I do most), it left out so much detail that made her story all the more fascinating and richer and really helped to better explain the actions of everyone involved in her life. Orlov's letter was frantic and suggested a quarrel at dinner got out of hand between Peter and the guards which led to his death. The illness, Colic to be exact, was used afterwards to explain his sudden death.

  • I can barely look at some of these costumes. Many of them look like halloween costumes or from another era than the 18th century. The actress who plays Catherine and the one who plays Elizabeth gets the best ones.

  • @Kagama These costumes don't look right and at times don't fit well at all.

  • @grumblebunz I know! Most are horrible to be honest. There are only three in this that doesnt look out of place and they are worn by the actress playing Catherine.

Why arent they so bad? I have seen them in other 18th century period drama and

  • to be married to an idiot as Peter, I would gone mad

  • When people hear stuff like this, how they hear royal women suffer, WHY do women pursue the royal lifestyle and the princes if there are so many examples of constant misery?

  • @TheNuharoo Because of the whole disney setting of a princess. They all got their happy ending etc. It seems wonderful to have balls, dresses and a prince, only in real life, it was often a dissapointment

  • @TheNuharoo Because if she had declined she would have either been sent away in shame or executed. She was chosen,

  • *O* dresses!

  • Hair is very important..........

  • thanks so much ^^
