@doug747pilots I would say it's probably a 50/50 mix between the full suits and the shorties. In 2007 we had one guy wear a full RCMP dry suit. Search for Rockstar Lifeguards Act I.
Hey why are the lifeguards all wearing wetsuits is it cold water also ive been certified as a lifeguard sents 2001 and I sometime when I work I do where a wetsuit I where it because I do not like to where pants but I only wear it when its really really cold out
@doug747pilots We actually did our training in May before the park opened to the public. The pool gets it's water from lake Ontario so that time of year the water is actually still pretty cold, that why we wear the wetsuits - to stay warm.
@alitou001 We never made close to that amount working there, the most I ever made was $10.00 an hour which is less than minimum wage now. True, City of Hamilton lifeguards make more now, but the water park is not run by the city, it's run by the HCA. As for American lifeguards the real money is made in California where 12 of 14 full time lifeguards in New Port Beach brought in over a $120,000 per year. I think that's around $57.69 per hour for 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year
psojka is right man tube are everywhere and a lot better than those stupid cans, that the entry form the towers that we do at the pool i work at, we already have the tubes in our hands and just jump off of the stand.
I agree with you on the rescue can thing. I work at a waterpark with a wavepool too and we use the rescue cans. The rescue tubes would not work with waves. It would be nice to have the rescue tubes for our splashdown pools though because last night I was doing sits and we had a deep water spinal and a rescue can popped up and whacked me in the chin. Ouch!
yeah fot the ppl who are going there for the first time wich i recomend dont go to deep in the wave pool they can be preety harsh whean the waves start i suggest going from shallow to deep and remmber dont stand still in a wave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg, i almost drowned here to death and I yelled for help and I thought no one heard me but some girl grabbed my hand and I couldn't clearly see her and then when I was brought to a safer shallow area, I couldn't find her :( and say thanks D: omgz
Great guards, great equipment, great facility, great tunes. It's refreshing to see lifeguards who know what they're doing and take their jobs seriously.
Great equipment? Did you see the beggining? They were using small plastic flotation things to save people. And they weren't even wearing the flotation things when they were on stand, instead they had to get off the stand, put them on, then jump in. Crazy Canadians.
In wave simulation pools, an Emergency stop mechanism is accessible for other guards to use during a water rescue. These guards don't have to fight waves- they can be turned off with a press of a button. This is another reason that the rescue tubes are better in this sitation that a can.
I've never really seen rescue cans used in shallow pools. I don't like them as much, you don't enough control over the victim, but you can float more with a can
Gotta love all these poser lifeguards who think tubes are better than cans in a pool that CLEARLY creates ocean equivalent waves. Speaking of cans, this video could definitely benefit from some shots of the female lifeguards jogging in slow-motion (a la Baywatch).
To everyone who is whining about the use of cans in a pool: Wave simulation pools absolutely justify the use of a can instead of a rescue tube. It's too difficult to work with a tube under those conditions and, as such, a can offers the lifeguard/victim the best stability/support. They are in no way unsafe.
Just because you're used to using tubes or because they're more standard doesn't mean that they're better. It just means that you need less training and practice to use them.
those cans are really dangerous...u should have rescue tubes...they are standard for almost every pool...the cans are for the ocean...idk why u use them here...plus, there is no way to do a rear-huggie, or duck pluk with those tubes...they are dangerous...the lifeguards safety always comes first...and that is not safe
our pool is a wave action pool and is designed to simulate ocean waves in 10 minute cycles and as such it makes sense to use rescue cans designed for use in the ocean, i'm sorry that the video doesn't accurately demonstrate the strength of our waves, but if you ever came to visit us you would understand our justification in using the cans.
BEST thing to use in the pool is a rescue tube, not a can.....THE LIFEGUARDS SAFETY COMES FIRST AND BY THE USE OF A CAN IN THE POOL IS NOT A KEY POINT ON UR SAFETY!!! Well Hope yall have a great 2008 season, my pool will definately!!!!!!!!
You guys should not be using those rescue cans there only for the ocean. Rescue tubes are what is standard for any pool. your safety is supposed to come first and with rescue cans that's not possible
If you've ever tried to rescue a double clutch when the waves are on then you'll know why we use the rescue cans, our waves can take on your ocean any day. I encourage you to come and check us out next season kaseyb3.
lol was just there last monday u can ask the hottie lifeguard wit blonde hair that works in first aid about my bro that got a huge cut on his knee from lazy river and still went on the slides :P
