As i had been at this gig I showed this to my 17 year old daughter, who, to be fair to her has reasonable musical taste. She commented that it was amazing and must have been a brilliant end to the show; for the first time in many years I reduced her to silence when I told her this was the opening track - not the encore! OMG she said what was the rest of it like? Impressive I said.Needless to say she is coming to see him the next time he's in town!
Why the Clash is still the baddest band ever. I love Bruce, Steve and the guys and they give it up to Joe, Mick, Paul, and Topper. Thanks boys. You're a damn fine rock band yourselves.
miami steve played london calling with the boss, dave grohl, and elvis costello at 2003 grammy awards as a tribute the best cover version of this song.... but this must have been awesome to be at.... 8 million or so of the unwashed at the one place at the one time but great chorus response
@LewisFall was this your first bruce concert then?? its definitely brooooocce. that.s been called out..No question. Yours sincerely. a bruce fan who was at this gig.
@LewisFall well you picked two good ones to start you off. 2009 was the first year that bruce and the band did festivals. If you enjoyed this, make sure you catch him on his next tour when it ll just be them for 3 hrs, no support , no breaks, no fancy lights, just pure magic. And if you can afford it go to a couple of nights, the sets always change !!
@runnerclv well why not, its not a bruce song, and he s probably not as adept at it as bruce is , they do alot of covers as well as their own stuff. Over 40 years that s alot of lyrics to remember!

Dear Steve Van Zandt,
Please stop trying to hog Bruce's microphone. You are NOT the person people pay to see and no one outside the ESB cares about you. You are like 4th in the ESB hierarchy behind Bruce's wife, The Big Man and Max. You suck at guitar, you can't sing and the world has QUITE enough of your stupid fucking gypsy bandannas. Leave Bruce alone and go back to the back side of the stage where you belong and stay there.
Arsehole, sorry but you are.....You heard Stevies guitar on jungleland etc...ya nob. ...in fact have you heard `men without women`...van zants album ,it superb
He actually wears those bandannas because he was in a near fatal motorcycle crash and has scars on his head. Which is also the reason for his ridiculous hair cut in The Sopranos. Good job, ass hole.
@frankenchokey7 If no one cares, then why does Bruce continue to give him the mic or why did U2 give him a shout out on their album "Rattle and Hum" about the album he put together about the issues in South Africa??
HOW. EFFING. AWESOME!!!!!!!! First time I've heard this.He just gets better and better. And for all the naysayers... it's homage to Joe RIP. Thanks for posting.
I do believe that Bruce's geriatric hernia kicked in when trying solo (at about 2:43) It must be tough for an ol'geezer trying to cover Joe S. At least the folks in Hyde-Park were polite last summer.
That's a great tribute to our man Joe. It's been 27 years since I stood hands-on-the-edge-of-the-stage when Joe and the boys played the Hollywood Palladium with the English Beat. You're living on, Joe. Bruce does you nice justice here, Boyo.
Funny but true story: After the song, Steve goes to Mick Jones(who's watching from the side) and asks him, "How'd you like it?" Mick says, "Like what? I'm one song late." Steve and Mick proceed to laugh their asses off.
wouldnt have released a dvd from this leg of the tour, bruce looks old, barcelona and new york dvd's blow this one to shame, crowd not that into it and the band is to far from the crowd, no intimacy. i cant see clarence touring again what a shame. as the stones said years ago, what a drag it is getting old.
emmett123..............that is an electronic song/set list that is programmed prior to the show...the same question was asked and sent in to modern drummer 2 issues ago...pretty cool
I have just watched the dvd. "London Calling".... wow...what a party...even though i do think that we got a little better set list in Denmark 10 days later.... But this live dvd is awsome....makes you really high on music....
@MrSupersoul I think you're wrong - they respected each other, admired one another. Joe Strummer would be out of his grave like an outlaw and jumping on stage to jam with Bruce if he could -
@yourswiththestars You're right. This is just a tribute from one friend to another. The Clash were great, but don't compare from a volume/quality aspect to the E Street Band.
yeahhh the boss still got it. I saw him at glastonbury the day before and he tore the place apart, even better than when i saw him at the emirates stadium the year before.
yeeeeeeeeeah being 15 doesn't mean i don't know good music when i see it
@yeahacoustic - You're absolutely right! I deifnitely remember "knowing" what was good music when I was 10, so yep, 15 isn't too young. This was amazing. Bruce is just....something else....!!!!!!
This is a superb version until Little Steven attempts to sing and completely murders it. Don't understand Bruce's loyalty to him - he can't sing and by the way he keeps looking at the teleprompter, can't even remember the lyrics. Stick to the Sopranos Stevie and just accept that you're bald.
Wonderful stuff. Bruce obviously influenced the slightly younger Joe Strummer - and Joe obviously impressed Bruce too to do this great cover. These 2 guys eventually met and got on brilliantly . Pity Joe isn't aound anymore - i'd love to see him perform with the E-Street Band
