I pity all guys who make love to their girlfriend with "Crash Into Me" by Dave Matthews playing in the background and think things couldn't get more romantic. That's a great tune, but it could never touch this. This song is as stunning and intimate as it gets. And to think this was written by someone who didn't write alot of love songs...Rod Stewart better watch his back :)
@ a5nkzsw8 Un listenable ? I know that music is subjective .But Saying Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock are un listenable Sounds a LOT like EMI when they brought Talk Talk to court after they got out of their contract with EMI . EMI sued Talk Talk for making an Un sell able record . The case was thrown out of court.
You are in a very small minority that does not like the last 3 LP's the best . Laughing Stock's minimalism was both genius and a Masterpiece . And it was quite listenable
This track still sounds so... dramatic after all these years, all the pain and frustration is still in it. Great song, great performers, alas they only did The Colour Of Spring album and then they chose to start making unlistenable records like Spirit Of Eden. How I'd wish to see the Talk Talk of the first three albums back, I suspect they didn't even realise back then what kind of brilliant tracks they wrote.

I was listening to that song shortly after my dad died. I was 14 back then. I have good memories on Talk Talk songs. They cheered me up and I mostly felt that Mark was singing me RIGHT OUTTA MY SOUL!

amazing band...truly amazing...people have underrated this band ...probably one of the greatest bands in music history...innovative, pure talent and vision. compelling..people are fucking stupid not to attempt a revolution on what has become of music since the early 90s. and today we have the worst of all, would anyone care to tell me who that is??
@daansmit123 well its becuase boober epitomizes what has been brewing in the industry since the mid 90s, and now he has finally landed. He gets to be on top when music like this has been virtually pulled underground.
good point, but the faggy bieber and rihanna and all that shitty music will always be at the top of the commercial music business, while it isnt the best music by very very far.
When i kissed her this song was playing,,, thought she was the heart beating inside me~ it got late and i walked her home and maaaan i couldnt let her go, if your out there to day you still cross my mind. Thank you for making me the man i am today. 8/23/84 was that day..
Remember, back in the 80's, if you where a TalkTalk fan, and feeling like you where the only one!. Well folks, lets all pat ourselves on the back, we had SUCH good taste!!.
Love your screen name. I'm patting myself on the back as I type this. I'm typing with just one hand if you're wondering. Typing with one, patting with the other!
This music stands the test of time doesn't it? It will never get old, it's just that good.
I got into Talk Talk by listing to this album on tape whilst working on a customer's car back in 1985. It has remained my favourite album ever since, worn out 3 tapes and on my 2nd CD, i just never tire of it and it never seems to date. Awesome!!!!!!!
There's never been a voice quite like Hollis' before or since he graced us with his brilliance. I just wish that they would reunite for at least one show: Is it too much to ask?
Brilliant, one of my old time favourite crying songs. This song is so full of emotion, of power, so full of IT. Bless Talk Talk, it's been one of the prescious ones since the 80's....
Millions of fans are waiting for ONE FINAL world tour. Whoever reads this and knows Mark Hollis... make sure he sees it!! We know Talk Talk isn't gone forever. There's ONE MORE thrust to satisfy millions of waiting souls. I personally would circle the earth to witness every single concert!

@bakelsjimmy After all these years, worn out 3 tapes and now on my 2nd CD, this album is still awesome and so addictive just can't stop listing to it!!!!!!
I have very fond memories of listening to this music in the 80's. I absolutely love Talk Talk's music. Everything sounds so good and goes together perfectly. I think the music and lead vocals are outstanding.
They're not better at all. Just as good and in the highest class of music. Believe me, I'm not sure it is possible to love JD more than I do. There just reaches a point where all the best sit on the top shelf together.
And maybe when the cheat plays Maybe when the ace falls from his suit And he tells you 'Yeah that's the game, I didn't want to lose it on the two' You're playing his way But the prize that you've been losing was youth And I say 'Throw the ace and face up to the truth' Renee Renee Renee Renee
Looking back, and as an old-bloke now ... I still don't know who's fooling who. Seminal. Life changing, music. Still as good etc, etc, . If you don't know this band, buy the last albums first. Anyhoo, happy friday cybernauts, love and peas, Sid.
Can you really compare and rate 80's new wave/synth with 90's experimental rock/electronica? I think both groups are great but also that it would be unfair to compare them since they are different genres, Radiohead is not trying to mimic them. I just sit down, listens and enjoy music at it's best.
my parents were in a divorce and me and my brother were diving into the music. we survived the divorce as my parents did. my father passed away in 2005 but the divorce didn't separate us.
My Favourite record from Talk Talk even though there are so many to name because this is different and very catchy and Mark Hollis Brilliant Singer. P.S. Coincidence that Renee Zellwegger my favourite Girl has something to do with it Thanks for Posting.
I,too, haven't listen to this song for over 20 years. It was great then and bloody brilliant today. Great voice and a great band regrettably overshadowed by the big guns of the 80s.
Yaeh thats it in a nutshell...unglamorous and pretty much unmarketable...but to those of us who found them...and that tolling bell in Renee 3esume the song up for me!! Great days and a truly outstanding band...
I have not really checked out Talk Talk since I owned a couple of their albums in the 80's. I had no idea back then how good they were. I think the big alt acts of the 90's and today, like RadioHead, Beck etc owe a lot to Mark Hollis and Co. Too bad the legwarmer decade just could not appreciate it!
Those of you who where there; blessed you are! Once we asked one another, pick the five (5) albums to be with us should we be "cast-away". Was this one for you?
... and when i think that's in an album tagged as their 'new wave shit period' for some snobs (preferring the post rock late period, genius too in the continuity.. but different). Yes, sure.. that is "shit"... morons!! i want more shits like that nowadays anydays lol.... genius and sublime album too in the genre.. and sure not basic newwave only.. !^ and that one especially imo.. so damn good and unique Talk Talk, from A to Z (and the snobs with no ears can go to hell again here) ^!
lol. fact is said like that was not very clear even for me in reading back :o) point was, anyway, or wanted to be ( :D ) : not only late TT.. as some guys try to say (rediscovering TT as 'pioneers of post rock' as they read in some magazines apparently, and thinking their early 'synthpop' period is bad..i try to say that politely here..:o/ ). so the big point could be; everything in TT is good actually, that's the only point... :*D
for what? i just tried to say, contrarily to some people that seem to rediscover TT those days only for their last 2 albums and as 'post rock' pionners (rest=useless newwave for those snobs..)...that they did great things way before their last period. That excellent track on the album It's My Life is one of the brilliant proofs : TT never was 'basic' new wave band..and did not begin to do valuable things only on their last 2 albums so. to sum up, i share your view lol. better said like that? )
You (and every lyrics site) have the lyrics wrong: the second line is "Baby, what's the best part of your youth - its cessation, yeah, that's a change." It makes a lot more sense that way...
" ..oh baby how the weeks fade ..." so poetic and the sound is so original, the voice ...amazing ....that's one of my top 5 albums, besides The Beatles and Peter Gabriel ..
His voice is an instrument in itself! It doesn't matter if he does pop crap or or experiential stuff or whatever. Mark Hollis' voice is an instrumental influence to anyone who wants to become a singer or songwriter. Such an incredible band that simply don't get the credit they deserve!!!
Pure, raw emotion and feeling. Music for your soul.

Mark Hollis, one of the best voices ever.

Speak Geek! Someone may understand your POINT?
CyCoChili 2 years ago
lol. fact is said like that was not very clear even for me in reading back :o) point was, anyway, or wanted to be ( :D ) : not only late TT.. as some guys try to say (rediscovering TT as 'pioneers of post rock' as they read in some magazines apparently, and thinking their early 'synthpop' period is bad..i try to say that politely here..:o/ ). so the big point could be; everything in TT is good actually, that's the only point... :*D

Pardon?
mogseyboy 2 years ago
for what? i just tried to say, contrarily to some people that seem to rediscover TT those days only for their last 2 albums and as 'post rock' pionners (rest=useless newwave for those snobs..)...that they did great things way before their last period.
