Man I live there now. I cant even go home. It fuckin sucks. And they are talking about there going condem the building. and the ringing is the fire alarms. I was there when the storm hit so I heard alot of it.
I liked your snow video! Do you know there are cities in a pocket region of Canada (Vancouver, Victoria, White Rock, etc...) that registered a MUCH milder winter season (2009 - 2010) than Atlanta? This is also not a very rare occurrence. Do you need proof? I'd be very happy to furnish proof!
The ringing? It makes me want to remove my ear drums.
Anyway, it's scary, to see what wind can actually do. I hope the building can be restored somehow, it's always sad when a piece of history is destroyed. Especially since it doubled as homes as well.
When I lived 2 blocks from here on greenwood, I remember that they removed the tornado sirens and sold them to Marietta, I believe. I thought "good god why would they do that." When I asked, someone said that some politician was making a personal profit off of it. I felt vulnerable being from tornado alley in Missouri, but everyone said there were no tornados in Atlanta. I said of course there could be...
Does this area - did they have sirens to warn them to get down, somewhere? I don't think this old brick building would have 'storm cellars' type of safety feature... do y7ou know if everyone got out OK?
Thank you for recording this for us.
I'll take a so Cal earthquake any day over tornadoes. *_*
I live on the other side of the Cotton Mills Lofts. I had just walked into my home when the tornado struck. I was on the phone looking out the window because I could hear the wind begin to pick up. As I looked to the left I literally saw the tornado with my eyes. It is something I will never forget. It destroyed every home on my street except mine. I was the only person home at the time. What a coincidence.
I just drove the path of the tornado today starting in EAV and ending up at the cemetary...we didn't try to get to Marietta St. I have lived in all of the affected neighborhoods at various times in my life. It was so horrible....yet amazing more people weren't hurt or killed.
I was going to move into these lofts, this is the second time something happned to these buildings. I remember when they caught on fire a while back during the construction phase.
Was anyone hurt, when the roof collapsed, or were they vacant? Are those apartments now, or are they condos?
At my work, we had some clients that were at the Georgia Dome, and our driver was getting something to eat on Morland at the Vortex and he was debating if he should go back to the dome and wait and that is when the tornado came through. The clients were ok but its a good thing our driver decided not to go back or he would have been caught in the mess while he was in a car!
that was a silly thing to say... it was a TORNADO, climate change has nothing to do with it. have you not seen the more modern buildings also destroyed by the tornado? seriously,... that was a silly comment you made.
Wow. Thanks for posting this. I live in Buckhead and have friends that live here. It's amazing that no one was hurt. Judging by your footage I would have assume someone might have died.
This is where the 3rd Robo Cop was filmed.

I hope you're okay. Do you rent, or do you own? I do hope it's a rental for you, so that the financial burden is lessened.

To my knowledge, there are not sirens. The area was not prepared for a tornado, so the intensity of the storm took everyone by surprise.

The opening shot shows C522 (C building, 5th floor, unit 22). That's where my wife and I lived before moving to Midtown. Very very strange.

Your living in a historical building that is over 100 years old. What do you expect to happen? It wasnt built for modern climate changes.
