I saw Louis Prima in New orleans at LeonPrima's club .It just blew me away
with Louis playing the trumpet and singing those great songs. That made me a Prima fan for life. The next time I saw him was in the Monteleone hotel in NO.
He died sometime after that. Most of his musicians were from New Orleans, a city that has produced many,many great musicians. deralte

From 81-83 my step-dad played lead sax in the band. I spent my summer/Easter vacations (I was 11yo) on the road with the band and in Atlantic City NJ. They played @ Resorts International. I watched the show many times and had a blast on the Boardwalk! Most fun/memorable times in my entire life. I miss it!

In summers it was Pocono Mt. resorts (which sucked because we were stuck in a motel in the middle of nowhere) for a couple weeks, then the rest of the summer was in Atlantic City. It was so awesome! The boardwalk then was full of game arcades. When I'd see the show, me & dad left early and hit the arcade in the casino, to play video games.

I wish I would have got to see Sam/his show 1 last time before he died. I doubt he'd remember me (it was 28yrs ago), but I can say that he was always nice to me backstage & at the shows. When I'd go in the dressing room w/my dad, Sam would be like "Aeyyyy, there's the little guy!". God, if you only know how cool it was, & how much I miss those days! :-)

Louis Prima was a one of a kind bandleader with a one of a kind band. They were all in the act and did their parts well. I don't see show biz schmaltz like I see in Prima's contemporaries. These lounge revivalists may not add anything new. It takes coming up like the originals did to do that. At least they call attention to what Prima and his generation did. Love how Keely looks like the rational, mature half, but she's still part of the act.

Louis Prima was a one of a kind bandleader with a one of a kind band. They were all in the act and did their parts well. I don't see show biz schmaltz like I see in Prima's contemporaries. These lounge revivalists may not add anything new. It takes coming up like the originals did to do that. At least they call attention to what Prima and his generation did. Love how Keely looks like the rational, mature half, but she's still part of the act.
