i just told the folks at collapseempire to look to works like these if they want to consider themselves the definitive post-rock group this record and phaedra define this genre
I have a question. I've been looking on YT to try and uncover some music that might help me induce altered states of conscious (meditation) for a lil' science experiment of mine, anyone tell me if U think this music might help induce Alpha?
If you'd like to know more just PM, any response would be greatly appreciated?
Hmm, scratchy record, that's what happened back in the 1970s when you got stoned right our of your tiny brain and put on a record. Then you sat back with your pals under the soft light and lit up a proper one. I heard the stories. Then came that build up and the 'dang' that made you flash.
I discovered this incredible music in the late 1980's ,first Phaedra and then this.I didn't seem that anyone would be nto this except for a very few people from the 1970's maybe. This music is so mysterious, dimensional expansive and organic compared to the 1980's stuff when synth sounds and recording production really changed. I like the vinyl!
So awesome that Tron: Legacy is going to revive this music by having Daft Punk et al copy it wholesale.
Glad the kids 25 years younger than us are going to revive some of the best material ever. Hopefully it doesnt turn out like Stereolab kinda ripoffs in the end tho.
This music is just all time great. And it's actually way before my time; the very much loved person who introduced me to it caught on to it in (I think) 1970 -- being fans of experiment and interesting music coming out of Europe and England at the time. Very sad to say they have passed on; but I'm still here loving this music -- I listen to TD practically every day. This piece in particular is fantastic.
I loved the band went to all their concerts in Birmingham UK, The Odeon and the Town Hall and the Coventry Cathedral one as well, Wonderful stuff, glad to see that they are still known, I have lots of their LP's but no record player, must buy one. The music sounds as fresh as it did 30 odd years ago. I think they should be part of the modern classical repertoire.
Oh, pure bliss, it makes me shudder. The wonderful pure tones and sounds they evoked. Rubycon is the ultimate masterpiece of all TD. I need no drugs. It just takes me so far away. Beautiful. Haunting. Graceful.
I think I was like 15 years old when I heard this the first time. Super Clean Dream Machine of Ad Visser on the Dutch Radio. Took me two years to find out it was Tangerine Dream. Best music ever, thx Ad!
Video is nice, I specially liked the tic after like 3 minutes, hehe.
Anyway saw them (that is Edgar and his band) in Zoetermeer this year. Just a band
@edw700 well certainly ahead when this was made and rightly so this album blew me away and more greats were to follow unfurtunately over the years they went more commercial and lost the originality they had , but saying that there is still some gems left --trich .
@trichoone I agree, they started to go off the boil at about 1977. My personal favourites are [1] Rubycon [2]= Phaedra and Zeit especially Origin Of Supernatural Probabilities [4] Stratosfear [3:00 a.m.] [5] 1st track from Green Desert. The first time I heard TD was around 1975 on radio Caroline which was Rubycon and I thought "What is this!", home at last! The DJ had plenty of guts to play the whole album on air, what a guy! Keep up the good work. Brilliant stuff, Mike from South Wales.
@edw700.scary immensity of the universe, this music talks about time and space...we re so little and insignificant...the feeling comes in the video from 7:00...strangely...your account number...you must be the stars child...
Quite possibly this entire album is on of the greatest compositions of all time, its legendary. You must be of a mind and in a mood to listen and listen to the whole thing. I suggest laying back and turn off the lights!! Its superb!
Minha música de cabeceira é a obra do Tangerine Dream. A primeira vez que escutei Rubycon havia ganhado um telescópio de aniversário. Daí em diante sua música tornou-se elemento fundamental para minha criação artística.
This takes me back! They are truly musical sound engineering geniuses. I soon I saw the movie The Sorcerer, I had to find out who made the music. The Thief was another masterpiece of movie soundtrack.
C´est fantastique , dans les années 70 , j´attendais toujours le premier lundi du moi pour ecouter le generique de" l´avenir du futur ". Ça me laissai reveur. Exellente musique de tangerine dream
i have not heard this wonderful piece 4 over 30 years...it isn't trippy at all...it's simply a masterpiece of mood...organic - conjuring up tangible feelings...thanks for posting it 'trichoone'

I agree with MPOURNOUZIS - Tangerine Dream at their best: no insistent melodies, but just amorphous, and yet highly evocative, washes of sound and Chris Franke's unfurling synthesizer lines.
tangerine dream at their very best. i've been lucky enough to see them live in london in 1974, playing this music. at the time, i didn't know anything about them, not even their name and had no idea such music could exist...
hi theo you and me were hooked about the same time they wasn't the most artist of groups to see live operating behind a black lace curtain on one of my trips but wow the music blew your mind - trichoone .
hi, there ! hooked indeed ! the concert i saw was in quadrophonic too! and there was simultaneous projection of the most amazing psychedelic video images ! a couple of years later i saw them again but it wasn't the same...
behind a black lace curtain? this reminds me of the RESIDENTS !
wow!!you saw them in 74 !!! My first TD experience was listening a vinyl '86! and I waited until 2008 November 7 at UCLA to see them live ! My first vinyl was encore. You are very lucky 2 see them, original score, froese, baumann, franke. And even the residents ! How strange group
it was my first "rock'' concert in london actually. the second was either the pink floyd or jethro tull, not sure which. the REZ
i saw first time in Athens in Greece doing the CUBE E show. NEVER missed a concert since every time the come over. last time i saw them they played BUNNY BOY live, it was last year.
Believe me that I didn't know about the residents were playing lately. I spent 9 years at LA,CA, and many good shows as jethro, tangerine dream, rush, even nina hagen that is not the same withouth spliff band. But I know TD shows will be less and less, so as much as possible to get a chance to see them again is a must. I like-yes-Blue Oyster Cult-an underrated bend, but with a powerful energy.
it seem the residents are more popular in europe than in the usa. they've toured europe several times since 1991. i've seen them 5 times until now and i've enjoyed all their shows, each one was unique. BUT sadly the TD are not what they used to be, at all.
my made in uk early copy of this album is kept in mint condition but although it sounds good the amount of clicking always bothered me some, especially in the quiet parts. finally i bought the cd remaster version which is very good i think.
But they kind of do because they hold your attention because of the movement. I would have used what many others have used--a still. Great clip by the way. Thanks a mil for uploading.
Gotta love the background snaps & crackles of the turntable/vinyl recording. I finally got this on CD a while back. One of the greatest late-night pieces ever.
Wow thats all i have to say. this is great I think i will invest in some tangerine Dream. Heek I am a fan of Kraftwerk so why not. These guys are good.
In my opinion TD is NOT Krautrock! Sure they are from Germany, but TD use the electronic kind of making music without any lyrics to reach anyone all over the world. For me, all the tracks by TD can be listen today and in the far future... generationless... :) I'm giving 5 stars...
Jean Michell jarre Can not be mistaken for T.D. They are totally diferent styles that sometimes are similar but only one is KRAUTROCK and that is T. D
They are great for what they accomplished at such an early age for Synth work. Their better days were in the 70's - 80's, less so in the 90's and forward. They even did some dance stuff but I didn't like it, felt they sold out. Their good stuff was just awesome though....mindblowing stuff.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is the kind of music you listened to in the 70s right after you dropped acid now didnt they do a movie song in 84? what was it called....Blade Runner
Tangerine Dream were responsible for my downfall when I needed one I got on the right road. I still listen regularly. No other offspring in the genre can top them ;)
"This music scares me. While I wasn't on Acid, I was pretty stoned one night about 3AM (about 30 years ago)listening to this shit and got a phone call. No one said a word. But I could have sworn it was the Devil himself !"
steve reich was a bit earlier with the kaleidescopic rhythm thing, but TD made it their own world - epic, sonically gigantic and in line with the classics of antiquity.
Love tangerine dream, im a young un' so I only discovered them recently but its just pure, quality music. Messes with your mind, love listening to their tunes whilst reading about UFO's or something along those lines...
i watched/listened to this while eating noodles. ive discovered they are the greatest food in the world and that pop radio should be replaced with this.
I listened to this while tiling an enormous futuristic glass back-splash. It aided in the enjoyment of the work. This recording is as good now as it was back then . . .
i mostly agree as i saw your comment i sundenly find me self drinking from a very hard suffering driver for Iceland driver delivering food to houses that that are above 3 storeys i cant blame them but why are they so many?Tangriene dream i know they had a bit of sound on that film called near dark, HEY i did i end up here now all of a suden i got my ear phones on in me head 12.34 yes!not heard this one before,i`m listening and surounded by my 8 can of beer, i like that one i got a pen.utube day
Hi, this music, this album, this group, changed me forever! Did you know they did a kaleidoscopic video with this album? I remember seeing it on the beeb, saw the Ricochet concert on the tv way back in the seventies, wow man wish i knew about that one then! Great stuff.
sounds like soundtrack to old shooter game Unreal from 1998 :) I like it :) and these guys made such amazing music almost 40 years ago!

Dear Tangerine Dream,
I subscribed my life to extreme metal. In my opinion, this is the kind of music that matters. Borknagar, Emperor, Nile, Lux Occulta, etc. However,
You make music, that... could make people who would murder innocent children by their own cold blooded hands, feel, that it's ALRIGHT.
You CAN make it feel that its OKAY.
You make music powerful enough. With great power comes great responsibility.
HOW will you try to make a difference now?

"This music scares me. While I wasn't on Acid, I was pretty stoned one night about 3AM (about 30 years ago)listening to this shit and got a phone call. No one said a word. But I could have sworn it was the Devil himself !"

steve reich was a bit earlier with the kaleidescopic rhythm thing, but TD made it their own world - epic, sonically gigantic and in line with the classics of antiquity.
shaft9000 2 years ago
love steve reich's stuff - the four sections (full orchestra) is sweet :)
