LOVELY, TOTALLY LOVELY!!! That sounds great! Of course it's not perfect, but... C'MON!!! She's 8 years old and those chords are hard as hell!!! Way to gooooo!!!!!!!!! I've got a Genesis cover band myself, check out on my channel here! We're called BY THE POUND. Thanks a lot, great playing girl! Let's keep chatting!
This is adorable, ProgMom67! It's so amazing to hear an 8-yr-old child playing early Genesis. This kind of thing gives a certainty on a better world being made since the cradle. Best wishes to both, mom and daughter, from Brazil!
How awesome is this in an age where kids listen to crap like Justin Bieber. This is so refreshing !!! I saw Genesis 4 times from 1972-1975 with Peter Gabriel. Great job girl, you keep it up !!!! Your parents have the best taste in music !!! I played drums in a Genesis tribute called Trespass band for 10 years. It was my side band.
Man that has to be the best feeling when your daughter plays that and you make a video of it. I too have a daughter that I am teaching. She seems to like it but I'm constantly trying to deprogram her from listening to that - well lets just call it "todays music" which most of it has no soul. Her channel is "DrumetteChannel" Maybe one day when we are old and wrinkled, they will be collaborating and we will be smiling! I hope I see that day! With such a talented mom, she has a great role model.
Thanks! This is when she was first learning it. Her timing is much better now. I hope she lets me record her again sometime. Perhaps both of us playing it together.
@ProgMom67 Ask her if she will allow you to film only her hands and board, maybe. I agree with other commenter - to a huge GEN fan like me it is the greatest thing in the world. Please tell her I had tears in my eyes. Forgive my instrumentless knowledge is that a mellotron. If not what, pls.
It is so great to see a little one digging classic Genesis. My kids are are 9 and 13 and I think they are the only kids in the neighborhood humming space oddity and ripples. Very cool. Joey.
awesome...as a parent, as keyboard player, as an early genesis lover my hat is off to your little one great job...my 10 yro daughter is in the process of learning to love classic genesis, as my dad had taught me...i took her to her fist concert recently..roger waters the wall at madison square garden...
Oh she's so adorable..!! ...And awesome!! Great job ProgMom! Good thing you're teaching you kids good music. They will thank you for it in the future. Not like this idiot Viennese is saying. Of course they would rather be playing or surfing the net or play video games, but you as a parent, with love and patience, is your obligation to do and let them know that what you are doing is for their best. Love and hugs.
@vivelavidarocka Thank you! My kids actually do enjoy playing this stuff despite the shallow closed minds of some people :) My daughter plays this song a lot better now, but she doesn't want me to record her for youtube anymore.
She probably chose that song to please her mother. I can´t imagine that children have the desire to play stuff like this. In my opinion they should not be bothered with classical music, too.
Your comment makes no sense. You never know what children will be into. I learned all Genesis drum patterns when I was 7 years old. They were one of my inspirations. I haven't looked back since. If you can't imagine a youngster wanting to learn this type music - try expanding your mind. It's people like you (posting without thought or common sense) that make YouTube a very "Unfun" and sometimes scary place to visit. Please. Not every little girl is into Lady GaGa & Katy Perry.
@klwewf : If you had nothing better to do at age 7, you had had a very poor childhood. And yes: I can´t imagine a youngster with the desire to play such stuff. Neither can I imagine little children with the desire to read Goethe and Schiller. At least unless they have selfish parents who want to turn them into something "special".
@VienneseDelights I studied music at that age and many years afterward. Music stimulates the mind. Now, either you're just attempting to be an antagonist with your reply. Or, you are emotionally bankrupt & completely ignorant. Either way - I'm done.
Wow, it's so good! I fully recognized the song! She should be learning more of that old Genesis stuff. It's genius material, and one cannot start early enough with playing those progrock classics. I Wish I could play Genesis' songs, but most of their material is way out of my league and I'm 31! The closest I got to playing it, was when I edited a MIDI-file of No Son Of Mine, which I obtained from the i-net. I might be better off singing Phil or Peter's parts, than playing Tony's. ;-)
Very good to prog-parents and prog-child! Its nice to see an 8 year old exposed to this music. Too much Taylor Swift and Katy Perry is bad for the brain..
its so good to see that in this age of crappy music there are some who still teach their kids how to play congs that matter. maybe one day we'll find our way out of this musical madness we're in.
Great Stuff! I'm such a fan of old Genesis and it's great to hear your Prog Daughter play it on the keys! Those are definitely not the easiest chords to learn and play ... I remember from when I taught myself how to play the "Watcher"intro on keys a few years back.
But I digress ... KUDOS and two thumbs up to you ProgMom and your Prog Daughter. This makes me want to teach my daughters soon ... they're 3 and 1 right now.
Just great - wow! Keep her on the Genesis! Have you seen the GMedia Mtron software for computer. 100 bucks and you can play Mellotron with a midi keyboard.
maybe if I would continued with music in that same age, at least now I would can complete one of my songs... but now I´m old and the life eludes me... freezes my soul in solitude... now my only love is Yes
Alright!!! This is one of my favorite Genesis songs, and a real mother to try to play! Kudos to your daughter for attempting it, and kudos to you for putting her up on it! That's so cool.

Sweet, and interesting. Good Mum :-) When I was at this age, I had to play German Hits from the fifties. OmG...

my son (13) is learning the guitar and just switched to bass and when he picks up my fender and starts playing it makes me all warm and fuzzy:)-
