  • Sweet, and interesting. Good Mum :-) When I was at this age, I had to play German Hits from the fifties. OmG...

  • LOVELY, TOTALLY LOVELY!!! That sounds great! Of course it's not perfect, but... C'MON!!! She's 8 years old and those chords are hard as hell!!! Way to gooooo!!!!!!!!! I've got a Genesis cover band myself, check out on my channel here! We're called BY THE POUND. Thanks a lot, great playing girl! Let's keep chatting!

  • Very nice, progressive rock all the way! I

  • VERY COOL.....LOVE IT!!!!...{:)

  • I was in a prog/hardrock band for 20 years in MA. Now i am in a little jazz trio (guitar&bass)

my son (13) is learning the guitar and just switched to bass and when he picks up my fender and starts playing it makes me all warm and fuzzy:)-

  • Very nice, you should be proud.

  • That is the greatest thing I've ever seen

  • Tremendous. Well done ProgMom and ProgGirl !!!!!!

  • At least she can play through it! I can barely get through 8 or 10 of the first chords!

  • This is adorable, ProgMom67! It's so amazing to hear an 8-yr-old child playing early Genesis. This kind of thing gives a certainty on a better world being made since the cradle. Best wishes to both, mom and daughter, from Brazil!

  • How awesome is this in an age where kids listen to crap like Justin Bieber. This is so refreshing !!! I saw Genesis 4 times from 1972-1975 with Peter Gabriel. Great job girl, you keep it up !!!! Your parents have the best taste in music !!! I played drums in a Genesis tribute called Trespass band for 10 years. It was my side band.

  • This is sooo cool...

  • Briliant! Well done. Yay ProgMom- Yay ProgMom's daughter :)

  • I hope my children will grow up this way :-)

  • If I had 4 children one would learn how to play guitar & bass the second would

  • excellent job. If i have a kid someday i´ll teach her an instrument. Your kid will be very thankfull when she grows older.

  • Man that has to be the best feeling when your daughter plays that and you make a video of it. I too have a daughter that I am teaching. She seems to like it but I'm constantly trying to deprogram her from listening to that - well lets just call it "todays music" which most of it has no soul. Her channel is "DrumetteChannel" Maybe one day when we are old and wrinkled, they will be collaborating and we will be smiling! I hope I see that day! With such a talented mom, she has a great role model.

  • im surprised you dont already have loads of clips. not the easiest type of music for an 8 year old to learn. has she done any more genesis

  • it still makes my eyes tearup

  • Many congratulations; good way to learn one the best group of the world.

  • Awesome!!!! Where did I put my bat wings?

  • Thanks! This is when she was first learning it. Her timing is much better now. I hope she lets me record her again sometime. Perhaps both of us playing it together.

  • @ProgMom67 , a prog mommy? Interesting.

  • @ProgMom67 Ask her if she will allow you to film only her hands and board, maybe. I agree with other commenter - to a huge GEN fan like me it is the greatest thing in the world. Please tell her I had tears in my eyes. Forgive my instrumentless knowledge is that a mellotron. If not what, pls.

  • Fantastic. How is she doing now?

  • Congratulations!! She's so cute !!

  • Congratulations!! She's so cute !!

  • It is so great to see a little one digging classic Genesis. My kids are are 9 and 13 and I think they are the only kids in the neighborhood humming space oddity and ripples. Very cool. Joey.

  • Quite possibly the greatest mother EVER.

  • Can I adopt her? :) Nice job!

  • BRILLIANT!!!!!

  • That's some good parenting!

  • I'm impressed .. great job here Mom, exposing her Tony Bnaks/Genesis

  • Que fofinha!! Jamais pensei ver uma criança dedilhar Genesis num mellotron...

  • Very cool. I wish somebody taught me good stuff when I was 8.

  • she's so cute!!! bravo!!

  • You are so lucky to be exposed to real music. Great job and keep on playing..

  • awesome...as a parent, as keyboard player, as an early genesis lover my hat is off to your little one great job...my 10 yro daughter is in the process of learning to love classic genesis, as my dad had taught me...i took her to her fist concert recently..roger waters the wall at madison square garden...

  • thats awesome!! makes me want to practice the piano with my little one more =]

  • adorable!!!!!

  • great! she could be like you, now i know you learn early...i can`t play guitar fine because i started old, i guess

  • @MarioteDeLosPalotes me too i never learned the discipline of music or anything else really.

  • Oh she's so adorable..!! ...And awesome!! Great job ProgMom! Good thing you're teaching you kids good music. They will thank you for it in the future. Not like this idiot Viennese is saying. Of course they would rather be playing or surfing the net or play video games, but you as a parent, with love and patience, is your obligation to do and let them know that what you are doing is for their best. Love and hugs.

  • @vivelavidarocka Thank you! My kids actually do enjoy playing this stuff despite the shallow closed minds of some people :) My daughter plays this song a lot better now, but she doesn't want me to record her for youtube anymore.

  • thats a very good job, genesis are one of my favourites groups!!!

  • Why didn't my mum teach me to do that when I was 8

  • She probably chose that song to please her mother. I can´t imagine that children have the desire to play stuff like this. In my opinion they should not be bothered with classical music, too.

  • @VienneseDelights

    fuck you

  • @deadhardy : What´s wrong with you? Did too much classical music kill your brain?

  • @VienneseDelights

u can't say shit about classical music....it's the highest form of music man has yet to create

  • Your comment makes no sense. You never know what children will be into. I learned all Genesis drum patterns when I was 7 years old. They were one of my inspirations. I haven't looked back since. If you can't imagine a youngster wanting to learn this type music - try expanding your mind. It's people like you (posting without thought or common sense) that make YouTube a very "Unfun" and sometimes scary place to visit. Please. Not every little girl is into Lady GaGa & Katy Perry.

  • @klwewf : If you had nothing better to do at age 7, you had had a very poor childhood. And yes: I can´t imagine a youngster with the desire to play such stuff. Neither can I imagine little children with the desire to read Goethe and Schiller. At least unless they have selfish parents who want to turn them into something "special".

  • @VienneseDelights I studied music at that age and many years afterward. Music stimulates the mind. Now, either you're just attempting to be an antagonist with your reply. Or, you are emotionally bankrupt & completely ignorant. Either way - I'm done.

  • spettacolare!

  • Wow, it's so good! I fully recognized the song! She should be learning more of that old Genesis stuff. It's genius material, and one cannot start early enough with playing those progrock classics. I Wish I could play Genesis' songs, but most of their material is way out of my league and I'm 31! The closest I got to playing it, was when I edited a MIDI-file of No Son Of Mine, which I obtained from the i-net. I might be better off singing Phil or Peter's parts, than playing Tony's. ;-)

  • It's good to pass on classic music to the younger generation. She id very good.

  • Very good to prog-parents and prog-child! Its nice to see an 8 year old exposed to this music. Too much Taylor Swift and Katy Perry is bad for the brain..

  • Fantastic! You can't go wrong with a bit of Genesis.

  • its so good to see that in this age of crappy music there are some who still teach their kids how to play congs that matter. maybe one day we'll find our way out of this musical madness we're in.

  • She sped up and slowed down, but for her age, good job!! Maybe she could get an organ like Tony Banks used!

  • 2 questions.

1: What time is the show?

2: And, where do I get tickets?

  • WOW! Amazing! Keep on rocking! I wish my mom was as cool as yours :)

  • so lovely!!!...absolutely, it's a good way to play ... keep on pratices, you will do great thinks!!

  • She Did it Great !!!!!! Where Did You get the Sheet Music so I can Learn to Play it Too!!!!!! I Love You ProgMom67 !!!!

  • Great Stuff! I'm such a fan of old Genesis and it's great to hear your Prog Daughter play it on the keys! Those are definitely not the easiest chords to learn and play ... I remember from when I taught myself how to play the "Watcher"intro on keys a few years back.

But I digress ... KUDOS and two thumbs up to you ProgMom and your Prog Daughter. This makes me want to teach my daughters soon ... they're 3 and 1 right now.

  • Just great - wow! Keep her on the Genesis! Have you seen the GMedia Mtron software for computer. 100 bucks and you can play Mellotron with a midi keyboard.

  • Thank you!! very very good ProgDaughter!!

  • Wow im very impressed!!! Loved it :) Teach her how to do The Musical Box next.

  • Precious!!!! = D

  • This is wonderful. You should get her an actual mellotron. Where did you get her the sheet music, if you don't mind my asking?

  • this sounds epic

maybe if I would continued with music in that same age, at least now I would can complete one of my songs... but now I´m old and the life eludes me... freezes my soul in solitude... now my only love is Yes

  • That was excellent ProgDaughter ! I'm reading the Genesis book "Chapter And Verse" right now, so this is inspiring.

  • how sweet is she? OMG! playing Genesis at age 8....gotta love it.

I wish my kids would listen to Progrock!!! Oh Well. Good on ya for teaching them!

    ~Amy

  • I am a musician and I wish I had parents to teach me this when I was young. Kudos to you. I hope she stays with it.

  • Colony of Slippermen by age 10 - GO!

  • memorized suppers ready by 11

  • Wow. Great job on teaching your daughter how to ROCK!

  • Brittany spears is the anti-christ.

  • How is good to know that Genesis's music are being passed from generation to generation. Congratulations Mom and Daughter!!!

  • Wonderfully done by a very talented young lady. If she decides to, she will be a great musician one day.

  • So sweet. Nicely done, young lady. Keep it up!!!! Nice to see your parents have got you into the best music ever. :)

  • future star!! amazing a 8 year old taking on a Tony Banks piece so unexpected to say the least

  • A 8 years old learning the music of Genesis instead of the usual monotonous piano studies. The world is a better place now.

  • Very well played by your daughter. This is a difficult song to play.

  • Alright!!! This is one of my favorite Genesis songs, and a real mother to try to play! Kudos to your daughter for attempting it, and kudos to you for putting her up on it! That's so cool.

"From life alone, to life as one, think not now your journey's done...for though your ship be sturdy, no mercy has the sea. Will you survive on the ocean of being?"

  • You're on the right track. Keep practicing - this sory of stuff doesn't come easy. You're a lot better than I was when I was your age.

  • amazing!

  • Thank you July! I hope my kids can play music as good as you do someday.
