These kind of scenes are very hard to do well. Gus Van Sant did a good fucking job in my opinion. Normally with these kind of scenes, I just wait for them to be over, butr this time I kept watching, I felt exactly what Gus was trying to say. Not bad, not bad at all.
@colin9413c This isn't crap ! I don't know if you have ever seen one of Gus Van Sant's movie, but if you did, you should know that in his films, he shows the 'truth', reality. Don't tell me that you've never been spending more than a whole minute in your shower without moving. Gus Van Sant is a fucking artist, and I think this scene is really incredible...
Sorry for the spelling, I'm only 13 and Belgian :B
@colin9413c .No but it takes someone with at least a slight eye to cinema to understand the power of this scene. And of course it is not real. Gus Van Sant is not about real. "Neutral" clean aesthetics are not real. That is why he is a fucking good director!
@colin9413c quiet? the sound getting stronger with his guilt - while you find out that the sound isn't really from the shower but from a forest and then you see the drawings of the birds in the tiles and as the sound gets faster you see his despair as he drops into his knees and a light moves away from him. And to finish the forest sound ends leaving just a really fast and high pitch sound making the stress even harder. Camera movement, acting, lights and incredible sound join together
It's the same shower curtain Gus Van Sant used in his infamous Psycho remake. Never noticed that. I've always considered this a part of the Elephant/Gerry/Last Days trilogy, though unofficially so. It's the weakest, but I still really liked it. This scene never left my mind. I don't know what he was thinking with a particular shot during a particular flashback. It didn't seem necessary and kind of silly.
Thats the mist drawn out scene in history, I havent seen paranoid park but ive seen elephant and last days and i really enjoyed them, Is this one as good/better?
@AimzWellings there is no real comparison to elephant..the two antagonists had each other. our innocent murderer here is alone. a few words to each parent and you can clearly see, he is utterly alone.
i have not seen "last days" but i'll put it on the list!
Fuck amaizing!

@MarieB666 he just stands there for 2 minutes, that isn't art. it doesn't take and artist to realize people sometimes stand still in the shower.

@miguelmfmic still don't know, it doesn't look that powerful to me. i was expecting something to pop out and scare me because it was so quiet.

@colin9413c Is it really that hard to understand what would be going through his mind? Thats what makes this scene powerful....pretty simple

@colin9413c he is not standing in the shower. He is falling down in the shower!!! And no real show has that sound and lights!!!

@miguelmfmic still doesn't seem like a good movie, i only found out about it on accident. showing that not many people have heard about it.
