@TheFoadolfat its not that he put him in a hypnotic state right there by placing his hand its that over the past month Derren had been puting him in that state and not deprogramming him over and over through the 30 days. When the mind is not deprogrammed by the hypnotist/psychologist it is really easy to throw them back into that tans-like state.
Really cool. But I'm having a really hard time believing any of it. Specially the bit where he supposedly hypnotized the fellow right when he was walking towards the cockpit. If he had really just volunteered to fly an airplane you'd think he'd actually be extremely aware of what's going on with the increased adrenaline which would be expected.
It was good fun to watch though.
PS: That loser dude had one smokin girl friend. She had really good teeth too for a brit.
@wowthatisawesome1 Don't know, but I clicked it. :) I'm guessing it's post-hypnotic suggestion to link these gains for yourself. Or maybe not, who knows?
i would have had been more entertained watching the american idol or something than this. for inspiration, please watch forrest gump for better measure.
Whether you believe that this is real or fake dosent really matter. The most important thing is that this show was fabulouly entertaining and contained some important messages that we can all take on board whether you are a believer ot non believer
Derren Brown is not human. All of his stuff rocks! The Heist is still my all time favorite! I've had "Can You Feel It" as my ringtone for the past 3 years!
Cant believe Derren Brown got YOU with that!!! He surely faked the the guy and the girl...fooling the crew.. and ultimately ..the audience.. the guy shud be awefully stupid..if the stuff is real.. and I dont believe AT ALL.
So lame. Hypnotic state, my ass. DB once again knowingly spreading bs from which he is so "clever" to distance himself elsewhere. Watch Penn & Teller's episode on hypnosis to get a clear assessment from DB's fellow professional magicians..
@clray123 DB doesn't believe in "state" hypnosis. He's an entertainer. This is an entertaining program. If you care to criticize, might I suggest reading "Tricks of the Mind"? He discusses a lot of his methodology and ideas within.
@SneakyGeeky I realize that he doesn't believe in it. It's just kind of annoying and dirty when he pretends to believe what he doesn't and (that's the most significant point) perhaps makes other people believe it in the process. Contrast that with a legitimate magician who will give you a bluff explanation with a wink of an eye, so you KNOW that he's playing with you, and you KNOW that you know nothing about the true trick.
The Penn and Teller show 'Bullshit' on hypnosis seriously misrepresents the hypnotherapist (one of Jerry Klein's students, Wendy. They say that she is irresponsibly treating a woman for anxiety when she should be seeing a doctor. They also say that she believes in hypnotic regression to birth memories.
Both are false. Wendy always insists on a referral letter from a doctor before doing any clinical work. She has also explicitly stated that she does not believe in regression to birth.
@BillyFeynman You aren't per chance referring to Wendi (with i) who can enlarge your penis by hypnosis? You see, those hypnostist people like to say this today and that tomorrow, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if she claimed one thing for the bs show and then backtracked to deny everything (what would YOU do if your business was at stake? [besides of not allowing yourself to be filmed by P&T])
@clray123 I haven't heard about the penis enlargement claim! Are you certain it's the same lady? Actually, she didn't deny such practices after the BS show, she did long before the BS show. I'm not a fan of P&T's BS. Have you seen the fitness insttructor show? They claim that somatotypes are scientific...I lost interest in their show after that.
@BillyFeynman Well, you can Google it up (wendi sexual health hypnosis). As for BS, the show has gotten worse over time. In particular they like to misuse the label to advance their libertarian political agenda, which sucks. However, the one on hypnosis was non-political and surely well within their area of experience as professional magicians.
@clray123 That's her! She used to be a student of Jeri Kein (who insists on MD referrals). I still feel that P&T misrepresented her 'in that particular show', as a student of Jeri's I'm sure she had a referral from the woman's doctor before treating her. P&T suggested that she didn't.
@BillyFeynman lol I wouldn't be so sure in your position. This lady clearly seems to be very keen on selling all sorts of bs, judging by her web site. In my experience people like her also tend to have severe problems with their own perception of self and reality. So perhaps she is a cold-blooded scammer, but more likely she genuinely believes that (at least some of) her woo stuff works (or seems to work and helps people as a placebo and hence doesn't need critical assessment).
It's great what he does but the ending is really rather dissapointing, you go through all that and then someone tells you all you've done has been staged and are unreal while in the other room theres a crowd cheering for you. bit lame but obviously he couldn't have landed an actual 747 lol
@G0ML3 actually the plane is a very accurate simulator, so technically he did land it. also, it's more about the choices he's made. especially to the part where he made a party, invited all his neighbors, etc. as derren said during the show, it's the choices you make that makes you.
I must admit this would appear to be one of Derren's weaker presentations, perhaps he is starting to lose some of that magic that he has been able to successfully produce for almost all of his previous works.
He needs to find a way to make himself fresh again or I fear Derren's time on top may be coming to an end.
@SlickSwiftProduction I completely disagree with you. So far this is one of the most work Derren has done amazingly. I think this is one of the most brilliant work that he has done so far, engaging the audiences to be part of it in means of sentimental value and being couraged, facing our fears and so on that were demonstrated on this show.
Please think again. Which would be more helpful, a magic trick or a motivation?
@Naughty08Girl I wouldn't argue he didn't put alot of work and thought into it, there are alot of creative ideas here such as the symbolic "jack-in-a-box" and staging a bank robbery to test someones courage.
But in the end, Derren Brown is a magician, and even if this was a great motivational piece, compared to his other works its still kind of lack-luster. Any feeling of motivation in the viewer would most likely be temporary, and thus you don't get as much out of it as an impressive trick.
@Naughty08Girl I suppose your right, tricks really don't give you anything beyond entertainment value anyways, but it would have been cool if maybe he mixed tricks with the motivation stuff, that way we could have had the best of both worlds.
What an utterly disappointing episode! Derren did a surprisingly poor job of making it seem realistic this time: waking a person up in the middle of the night and by just telling him that he's still asleep hypnotizes him, making him touch alligators without the person's consent to participate, the guy tuns into Houdini on the train tracks. Not even talking about the hypnosis on the plane. How can anyone seriously buy this? Obviously All of them are actors, including Derren himself.
It was really moving when Matt kissed the crucifix right at the end. ....and then went on to receive hugs and applause from family and friends.
I have to admit I don't share the same beliefs as Derren. Nonetheless, I do agree with him about our lives being miracles and making the most of the opportunities that present themselves in the present. All in all, we should seize the day, never give up and most importantly be kind to others. :)
i've been wanting to become fit and workout, but i've always been blocked from the motivation to do so. perhaps this is my chance now. seeing that with a little change in yourself can bring greatness, i can do that too. and maybe i can even do well in the college i'm in.
This is the most emotionally heavy thing I've seen from Brown, I think. I like the inspirational, motivational style. It's not hard to trust and respect him, considering he's such an authority on the mind, and on succeeding.
IM Proud of you !
