People who wanna play this should look at the sheet music to see how that bass line interlocks with the intro melody, how long those bass notes are to be played too otherwise its gonna be impossible to put the two together correctly.
I don`t get it? What`s up with some of these negative statements on some of the comments? It is a GREAT piano lesson! If for whatever stupid reason that someone doesn`t like it then they don`t have to watch it? Lestrat95 was kind enough any generous enough with his time to do this. And we all appreciate it. Lestra, PLEASE do some more tutorials. In fact I am going to subscribe to your channel right now! Thanks again, Don
Thank you for this, mate. You are a great teacher and I really appreciate it.
If I could respectfully suggest something, though. Everybody shows the individual hands slowly, which is great but nobody, it seems, shows them together but very slowly. The hardest bit for us "newbies" is figuring where the notes fit together when using both hands. It's very frustrating. It would be fantastic to hear the full intro at half speed for us to get our heads around it.
Maybe if you could even just write in here which two notes should be played at the same time, just for, say, the first 3 chords, it would be extremely helpful and I'd be so grateful.
So, I mean, if you were to write "the first note of the G chord "G" should be played with the first note of the riff B. Two more notes are played and then the second note of the chord B played with with C then D with D" or whatever, I'm sure you could put it in a much better way.
you are a very good teacher...I learned this song myself and it took me several months to learn both the bass and th4e piano part to be played simultaneously. I wish i had someone like you to teach me this so i could learn it much sooner...
I agree that it is played starting off on the B note thanx

i solved my problem with the too short keyboard by just switching one octave up (i know it is very high and gay now, but atleast i can play with both hands then) so i just came to the next problem: i don't know the timing of both hands played together. unfortunatly you don't explain it. well guess i just gotta figure out myself
thx for the video. my keyboard is too short to play the left hand though, but atleast i can go with the right hand. excellent tutorial, you seem to be a sympathic guy, keep the good work up!
@Lestrat95 you dunno how to play it ;) hehe stupid way you fumble around on the A chord obviously clueless how it really goes , i know a guy who knows how it SHOULD be played but he doesnt do "tutorials" :P
@WESSERPARAQUAT Jesus Christ, you're pathetic!! That comment is absolutely unbelievable! I went to your channel and you're a grown man, an adult! You're at least 35, more likely 40+, yet you behave in such an ugly, childish and obnoxious way! Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you? This isn't how adults behave, unless they are simple minded. So, are you slightly "backwards" or are you just a very horrible person?
Can you not see how much of a piece of shit people think you are now??
And if that guy in your video isn't you, if it's your father or something, then you should really feel ashamed and embarrassed of yourself because you are giving him a horrible name on YouTube. People are going to see your disgusting personality and think it's him, which would be very unfair on the guy and I'm sure, if he knew that he was picking up a nasty reputation because of a snidey, obnoxious little prick like you, he would be horrified. If it is you in the vid, you really need help!
@WESSERPARAQUAT Hey wesserpeeyourpants.......for a guy your age to come on to a video and put someone down like that must mean your simply a jackass.....so what, you can play it better (maybe), but your still a jackass
Thanks! I've been trying to figure this out for years, and I finally saw what I was doing wrong. Yours is the first video I watched, and now I don't have to look for more.
SignatureSoundz - I agree, learning theory is huge deal that helps people learn music much faster. However, the intro is not just one mode, but part of a circle of 5ths pattern, so not really in any key. This is a very unique song. If it had a key, it would be G major (Ab or G# is what we hear because of the old methods of recording and bouncing tracks). The Chorus could be considered D, (Db/C#). It all depends on how you notate this song. It goes in and out of different keys/modes.
Thanks that is awesome to know I'm glad I commented because I didn't quite figure it all out. Plus I got useful info in return. I have the book by Wayne Wadhams "Inside the hits" and it says its in those two keys I mentioned. Can you somehow post a lesson on how to modulate like that using the C.O.F. Thanks.
No doubt man! I'll see if I can get some new lessons up...it might be a while though unfortunately. Just remember, with the COF's it's just about going down a fifth (over and over again)...and it comes around full-circle. Practice doing major chords that way, then minor, then 7ths, etc. (C-F-Bb-Eb-Ab etc...)
Excellent video. Much better than these other miscreants who also have videos up claiming to "teach" 'Light My Fire.' Their videos are pure trash compared to yours sir, and I thank you. These other bastards, however, ought to be physically punished with a switch.
@richslaters Those other "bastards" are taking time out of their own lives to try and help people. Offering something they are talented in for the benefit of others and they expect and want nothing in return. You don't even get to see who they are.
I have checked a few vids for this song and the majority are very good. They do their best and you should drop this obnoxious arrogance and be a little grateful.
@Triplesod I stand by my original statement, and still firmly believe that all other Light My Fire tutorials on YouTube are the works of plebeians, hucksters, and charlatans. If their versions of this song are, like you say, "their best," than I am still not impressed, and as these videos have nothing to offer me, I find it impossible to be even a "little grateful."
@Triplesod Triplesod, the self esteem movement has obviously got its talons dug deep into your scalp, but try to understand, even though others may have spent a lot of time on their tutorials, this is no guarantee that they're any good in the hawkful eyes of a shrewd critic. As for my obnoxious arrogance, it is my own prerogative to behave as I see fit, and as I say, if it gives me fun and I like it, i'm going to do it. Maybe even two or three times. Yeah.
i have been looking for a long time for someone to teach riders on the storm, and you seem to know what you are doing.. Any chance you would want to do a tutorial on that!? i would be forever indebted to you get back to me if you can, thanks
Best 'light my fire' tutorial on Youtube - really easy to follow - accurate - interesting and informative with respect to the key of the song and the recording process!!!
hey do you think you can send me the whole song in letters i'm just learning how to play and it would be a lot easier if you could do that more me . . . Thanks!
hey man i like your videos a lot . Im a begineer pianist , well i wanted to ask you some info or tips to upgrade my cordination with hands i cant still use the left hand if you could give me any info i would be very thanked, and congrats for your videos.
Glad you dig 'em! Tapping your hands on your lap is a great way to develop coordination faster. This way you're no longer concentrating on the notes, but more so on the actual rhythm and feel. Don't use your fingers while doing this. When playing...just work on the left hand alone, REPEAT a few chords at a time (break the song down to small sections) and practice SLOW!
