This is an great movie, very good depiction of the 16 century era, if you look at Vemeers paintings you will see the movie captured the look of the era from Vemeers actual paintings. It is said Vemeer only produced 35 paintings, Van Ruijven his main client owned 21 of them.
i watched it for 15 minutes and then i thought how awesome this movie could be, if it was a french production. french movies/acting always are vital and true and it will stay this way until the muslims finanlly take over that country and burn every book, movie and piece of art they can find.

I dont know if scarlett johansson was such a good choice, she doesnt have big eyes such as a big mouth so she looks very different from the griet in the painting...and also Collin Firth, he didnt seem as unreadable yet calm and cool as the Vermeer in the book....he seems angry all the time not like a dreamer who lived in his own world
The whole athmosphere never felt as dramatic to me when I read the book. ôô On the contrary: I liked it because it was not like all the other semi-historical stories with all their drama and love and vengeance stuff.
I thought the book was masterful until the end. It seemed completely implausible Griet wouldn't have gone to the house, wouldn't have hit Cornelia, and wouldn't have inherited pearls. Vermeer would instead have left her a favorite brush, or a tub of paint..not the pearls; they had Catherina's oil on them. And going to othe house? she wasn't an employee any more, and Vermeer himself was gone.
So I loved the book until the final chapter, which I thought was really really disappointing.
I agree. The last chapter always bothered me. I understood her marrying Pieter and was interested to see how her life with him was. I can understand why he would leave the pearls because of their significance, but surely there could have been a more suitable gift left behind that didn't have Catherina's aura left all over it. Even the camera obscura would have been more fitting, simply because it was an experience only they shared. A brush or art trinket also would have been more suitable.

Hmmm... I don't really like the point of view on this trailer. They make Vermeer look like an older man who preys on young girls, when in reality Griet and Vermeer simply had feelings for each other. Still, there's no doubt that this movie was absolutely fabulous.

Every scene in this film is like a painting, it's wonderful! I'm Dutch and live near Delft, and the city is as beautiful as it was back then :) Go and see this film!!
This movie is so well made, and it really makes you think. Because there is a lot of information about the real painter and why he chose to paint that girl. It's so strange how these faces became so popular like the Mona Lisa, but we don't know any history about the actual people.

The girl in the painting is kind of ugly. I'm in two minds about this film. I'm sure this trailer contains the only dialogue and action in there- yet vermeer is made to look kind of sexy but he has a horrible beard and is kind of creepy...i have been known to buy films for shallow reasons :)

Colin Firth is such a wonderful actor. Although, Vermeer's character seems so much different in the movie than the book.

at first glance you think 'scarlett johansson and colin firth.. huh??' but after watching it, all i have to say is WOW at the chemistry. f-ing awesome acting.

im finishing this book right now. i really wanna see the movie cuz the book is wack. its not that its boring, u just really dont like to read. in the way the character looks in the painting, scarlett looks a little mad, while greit looks a lil more happy. it was messed up how van ruijiven n pieter did what they wanted with her. n she let pieter do it. she wasnt really as protestant as she said.
