  • scarlett johannson is the most beautiful woman i've ever seen.

  • i cant help it, as fast i see pieter, i immediatley think of the batman and how much i hated that scarecrow... :/

  • is rollo weeks in this and if he is who does he play

  • I love how a book and a movie was born from a painting . So creative. This role was made for ScarJo!

  • soo proud to be dutch

  • @EtrueT7 yepp me too :)

  • The book was fantastic. I do not know if I should read the other books by Chevalier. Has anyone read? Any ideas? Are her other novels as good as this one?

  • @medielijah Yes especially "the virgin blue" is really good... the others are awesome too

  • @spikeran100 Thank you spikeran100! I am looking forward to read them... :]]

  • This is an great movie, very good depiction of the 16 century era, if you look at Vemeers paintings you will see the movie captured the look of the era from Vemeers actual paintings. It is said Vemeer only produced 35 paintings, Van Ruijven his main client owned 21 of them.

  • I really like this movie. How did they find an actress that actually kind of looks like the girl from the painting.

  • i started it last , almost done, then I'll comment it, and discuss with you ? I have points already :)!!!!

  • i watched it for 15 minutes and then i thought how awesome this movie could be, if it was a french production. french movies/acting always are vital and true and it will stay this way until the muslims finanlly take over that country and burn every book, movie and piece of art they can find.

  • @kralle7611 OMG this is so not true! it's the opposite way over! read history!

  • I'm from The Netherlands and it's so funny for me how the actors pronounce Dutch names. :p

  • Just read the book. I really want to watch the movie now...

  • @roooozz Did you like it? I adored the novel by Chevalier... I think the more you understand and like the book the more you will dislike the movie. But soundtrack and Delft was great... do you agree? Some acting performances were just breathtaking good, some were incredible inaccurate and misleading in regard to the novel.

  • @medielijah I loved the book. And I was prepared for the not so accurateness of the movie. I liked it though. You have to admit: great actors. I'm Dutch, so it was very special to see those actors in a Dutch environment. But nothing beats the book.

  • @medielijah

    I see. Agreed!!!!

I am very interested in Dutch life and culture during this time. Is there any novel you would recommend?

I have heard of The Virgin Blue... but do not know if it is worth reading... any ideas?

    Best regards from Austria.

  • I think The GIrl With The Pearl Earring looks more like Anne Hathaway than Scartlett Johansson.. Juust saying. Thought Scarlett fits the role better ;)

  • @Bellabachir agreed. she does look like anne hathaway

  • @firelifesm Good we have the same opinion ;)

  • whats this even about? and wow, scarlett has HUGE, PUFFY lips

  • beautiful movie

  • Im in love with this wonderful movie

  • @KaleidoRaffa Then you might adore the novel by Chevalier. Did you read the book?

  • @medielijah Yes,it's even better than the movie :)

  • its reallt incredible how scarlet can be this hot in such a role... haha. Shes like wearing the eagliest clothes and everything

  • :o they're likeness is kinda scary.....

  • I think Scarlett Johansson possesses such beautiful femininity.

  • Why are they speaking in English?

  • @AliG4life

    Because its a british movie!

  • @muffinbjorn

    Yeah. :P

But I hate it when they do that. It's Dutch history. Let THEM make a (probably better) movie about this subject.

  • I regretted when i was in netherlands, i did not see this painting in The Hague... i first saw this painting it on a postcard at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam

i immedately fall inlove with the girl in the painting... she is so beautiful...

  • Hello Guys! I am looking for the name of a movie ( I think it's foreign movie) about a painter who is contracted to paint a family, but then he discovers things about a dead boy son of the mother who tries to hide it...anyone can help me which movie is that? I think there's winter in the middle of the name! Thanks

  • I dont know if scarlett johansson was such a good choice, she doesnt have big eyes such as a big mouth so she looks very different from the griet in the painting...and also Collin Firth, he didnt seem as unreadable yet calm and cool as the Vermeer in the book....he seems angry all the time not like a dreamer who lived in his own world

  • The whole athmosphere never felt as dramatic to me when I read the book. ôô On the contrary: I liked it because it was not like all the other semi-historical stories with all their drama and love and vengeance stuff.

  • does anyone know the song in the very beginning of the video? i've been trying to find it so i can play it on piano, but idk what its called

  • @cabxecstasia The song should be in the closing credits.

  • The movie left out so many important parts. I was very disappointed.

  • min 1:44 the real Griet looks like smiling and Scarlet looks more unhappy.

I think Griet is much prettier she has something special.

  • now i understand why he ask her to lick her lips its like an image of him kissing griet.

  • I thought the book was masterful until the end. It seemed completely implausible Griet wouldn't have gone to the house, wouldn't have hit Cornelia, and wouldn't have inherited pearls. Vermeer would instead have left her a favorite brush, or a tub of paint..not the pearls; they had Catherina's oil on them. And going to othe house? she wasn't an employee any more, and Vermeer himself was gone.

So I loved the book until the final chapter, which I thought was really really disappointing.

  • I agree. The last chapter always bothered me. I understood her marrying Pieter and was interested to see how her life with him was. I can understand why he would leave the pearls because of their significance, but surely there could have been a more suitable gift left behind that didn't have Catherina's aura left all over it. Even the camera obscura would have been more fitting, simply because it was an experience only they shared. A brush or art trinket also would have been more suitable.

  • @TheWishfulDreamer I agree the last chapter was quite hard to read. In my opinion it is after all a realistic and great ending. I think the pearl earrings never really belonged to Catharina.... Furthermore it was quite obvious Vermeer would leave her the pearl earrings because they caused much of trouble.... Griet was wise enough to understand that she had to choose between art and her relationship to Vermeer. The pearl earrings are both a blessing and a curse... It must have been the earrings.

  • I just finished reading the book last night. I watched this movie a long time ago, and liked it very much, so I read the book.

  • scarlet johansson? didnt know she would play in this movie.

  • who painted the girl with the pearl earing?

  • Johannes Vermeer

  • book was absolutely amazing!! so was the movie but the book was better!!! GO COLIN FIRTH!!!!!!

  • Hmmm... I don't really like the point of view on this trailer. They make Vermeer look like an older man who preys on young girls, when in reality Griet and Vermeer simply had feelings for each other. Still, there's no doubt that this movie was absolutely fabulous.

  • i agree, i didn't like how they portrayed the characters too much. i kind of preferred vermeer over peiter in the book, but the movie wants you to think otherwise. i loved both the movie and the book, though.

  • I'm in the middle of the book. So far, its great. The movie better not disappoint me when I watch it!

  • this is such a good movie

  • I love this movie

  • Alexandre Desplat's score is stunning!

  • she does have a strong likeness to the original painting

  • @SashalovesErik True...but she also strongly reminds me of Summer Glau ; )

  • I think the book is better

  • I love this film!

  • hm this film was ...??!?!?!

  • This has nothing to do with Vermeer. I hope that people know that. It's a shame that we need fictionalized lives in order to appreciate art. The art really speaks for itself quite eloquently, and needs nothing else.

  • i love the book, i haven't seen the movie but it looks good.

  • this movie looks kind of dumb... forcing a real story into a film, usually doesnt work.

  • the book <3 <3 <3

more than the forbidden love story i loved the fact that it made me appreciate colors better.

i've never really thought about it that way before.. wonderful!

  • I absolutely love this movie and the book

  • love that movie

  • I like it, that it is a movie about Dutch People! Johannes was a very good painter! I am Dutch, but i have never seen this film. Saterday he was on the tv, but i had a party.

  • Amazing movie!!!!! 5/5

  • is she getting raped at 1:28?

  • No. there's a man who is a friend of the painter. And hes a perve, and he was feeling her up.

  • Actually, he was TRYING to rape her, but something interupted it (don't remember what). Sick man, should be castrated.

  • Cornelia came to see what happened.. And yeah he should be!

  • Yeah, I saw the movie again just recently and Cormia was calling for her, which is what interrupted the attempted rape (thank god). Glad you agree with me xD

  • no, wrong to both of you. He was clearly

    "tickling" her

  • Lmao!

  • what do you mean "tickling" her?

  • oh...nuthin

  • My favorite movie! ^_^

  • I looove this movie :D

  • Read the book, and then watch the movie.

  • hey, how come no one sees her real hair.

    I bet shes blonde

  • she's brunett in the book.

  • she's brunette in the movie as well.

  • OMG, I never saw it coming

  • This sure is one interesting film. By the way I do have some pearl earrings I am offering to anyone who is interested.

  • Gloire aux pays bas !

  • Wow, Colin Firth seems good as the part... but gawd I hate Scarlett Johansson, she has one facial expression... Alright, two.

  • this was a great book=) wish i could watch the movie*pout*

  • where can i watch this movie online?

  • im reading this for my leavin cert comparative course its brilliant i love it.the book looks better to be tho

  • Colin Firth really is an outstanding actor.

  • Scarlett really looked like Griet

i havnt watched the complete movie yet...

and iv only read bits and pieces of the book

it doesnt seem that interesting to me, but just watching the trailer makes it seem alright

  • the book's amazing !!! do read it if you get time.. :P

  • yes it is, but I thought the ending was really sad :(

  • it was :( like she was closing off that chapter of her life forever :(

  • He loved right because he took the painting on loan to look at her. He didn't like otheer men paying attention to her.

    Love the book ;]

  • yes i'm going to read it:D

  • I brought the book after the film and I thought it was incredible!!!

  • i literally just finished it, in 2 days. so good, but the ending is depressing

  • Love Colin Firth!!!!

  • love this movie

  • SCARLETT JOHENSON IS SO PRETTY

  • love this movie

  • Haha. Colin Firth's hair... :D Now, but seriously this movie looks really true to the book.

  • has someone found the whole movie anywhere? I started to watch this movie and really enjoyed it. I didn't get to finish watching it.

  • The book was a lot better.

  • is there a wh0le m0vie s0mwhere?

  • amazing movie... i really enjoyed the music

  • The movie is really good, but Scarlett always has her mouth open^^.

  • it's a movie in holland, it's a movie in holland *little dance* in deeeeeeeelft!!!

  • Every scene in this film is like a painting, it's wonderful! I'm Dutch and live near Delft, and the city is as beautiful as it was back then :) Go and see this film!!

  • i love Colin Firth!!, he is so handson, and a great actor

  • Got to see it soon!!!

  • oh lala

  • I loved the book and now I really want to see the movie!

  • I thought it sounded like the odyseyy (odysseuss)

  • I saw the movie it's very good but I missed the start and never really got what it was about lol can somone help me.

  • be-llí-si-ma, es fascinante, cada imagen es una pintura en todos sus detalles, una verdadera poesía...

  • Does anyone know if this piece of music is a variation of Desplat's theme score? Or simply - who wrote this?

  • This movie is so well made, and it really makes you think. Because there is a lot of information about the real painter and why he chose to paint that girl. It's so strange how these faces became so popular like the Mona Lisa, but we don't know any history about the actual people.

Good movie, if you haven't watched it, watch it! =)

  • the book is good the relationship between griet and vermeer is so mysterious and intense it sad that he past away

  • oh c'mon, if you're maid is as hot as scarlette, who wouldn't turn into a perv???LOL

  • I LOVE the book and just saw the movie yesterday for the first time! It was great, very true to the book!

  • so what is colin firth in this? a painter or a perv?

  • I just finished the book, it's so beautiful, sensitive and sensual. I just loved it!

  • No, it did not! The book was amazing.

  • I just finished reading this book, and I am very eagered to watch the movie of it!

The book was excellent, which straight out means to me that the movie will be too.

  • I was quite disappointed with the movie after reading the book.

  • wow, really great movie

  • does anyone know the name of the song in the second part of the trailer ? (near 1:06)

  • "cornelia" alexandre desplat

(but befor 1:06 or after 1:06?)

  • after 1:06

  • after 1:06. it's not cordelia, I don't think it's a soundtrack of the film

  • Wow, she looks so much like the girl in the painting. It's amazing. I just read taht whole book today. I could not put it down!

  • i love the book!

  • I LOVE SCARLETT!

  • when is someone gonna upload it on youtube? wanna see the whole thing ^^

  • i finished the book in 3 days it was so interesting i couldnt put it down and i have to watch the movie.

  • from the moment i finished this book which is about 5 minutes before i knwe i had to see the movie!i was sure that this role was perfect for colin firth.and scarlet looks very much with Hirt

  • I actually like this movie.

  • i actually love this book + movie and i usually hate stuff like this, it's really quite good.

  • The girl in the painting is kind of ugly. I'm in two minds about this film. I'm sure this trailer contains the only dialogue and action in there- yet vermeer is made to look kind of sexy but he has a horrible beard and is kind of creepy...i have been known to buy films for shallow reasons :)

  • WOW. I had never seen this trailer before, only the U.S version! But this one is REALLY cool. It really adds the depth of the Griet/Vermeer relationship! Not to mention that awesome shot of the movie painting transforming into the real one! Thanks for posting phu50099! :D

  • i wanted them 2 make love so badly. I want to see it again they belong 2gether, Scarlett is one of the few modern actresses that can make a movie with some depth to it.

  • if u see da video i made i drew her painting :] but it dosnt look dat good

  • the pearl on the movie is not real...

  • Our Donnie says if he had the chance with Scarlett Johansson he'd give her a full pearl necklace.

  • Oh, real mature.

  • i have that painting:~)

  • plsssss some one upload the movie!!

  • I read the book yesterday. Is the movie as good?

  • loovely movie. Wish they'd ended up together though lol.

  • did anyone other than me notice she had no eyebrows?

  • i noticed too

  • I SOOO want to see this movie. It looks really good and intense.

  • Begrijpen julie dit wel?

  • I remember coming across this one day on tv. All I could was what an uncanny resemblence Johansen had to the actual girl.

  • you and I both

  • i wanna see that movie :) It looks good

  • What a striking resemblance

  • this film is exquistite.

  • when does the movie come out?

  • Colin Firth is such a wonderful actor. Although, Vermeer's character seems so much different in the movie than the book.

  • at first glance you think 'scarlett johansson and colin firth.. huh??' but after watching it, all i have to say is WOW at the chemistry. f-ing awesome acting.

  • This movie is GREAT!!!!

  • it is very great movie! (excuse me but my english is bad!)

  • your english sounds fine hun :-) no worries

  • it´s such a great movie!! i LOVE IT!!!!!!!

  • im finishing this book right now. i really wanna see the movie cuz the book is wack. its not that its boring, u just really dont like to read. in the way the character looks in the painting, scarlett looks a little mad, while greit looks a lil more happy. it was messed up how van ruijiven n pieter did what they wanted with her. n she let pieter do it. she wasnt really as protestant as she said.

  • the book has become one of my favorites and it isn't wack u idiot.

  • the book is better than the movie. well their both ok. n watch your mouth talking like you big on youtube, you must REALLY love that book.

  • I do REALLY love that book.
