Me and my friend catch big bastards on ulta lights all the time. Ur going for little bream and then out of know where something starts takeing line. U hope its a fish but its just a big ol snapper. Their fun to catch anyway. This summer me and my friend must have caught atleat 30 big ones (let them all go) our biggest was 28 lbs weiged of course.
for one ew do you know that it can actually be poisonous eating a snapping turtle not from whats in there stomahce but what could be obsorbed in there skin
For two, how about doing some reasearch before commenting.....it isn't poisonous to eat turtle meat. You don't acutally eat the skin....with anything except most fowl, you skin that before preparing for consumption. The item that can be poisonous is the fat, there is only a small trace of PCB's in their meat, while the fat and internal organs is where it is mostly found. These aren't consumed.
LOL I had several people argue with me that snappers won't eat doughballs, but they actually eat anything as most people know. Whenever we used to set our rigs along the river to catch them for soup....when we put them in the clean out tank, all kinds of stuff would come out of them..*shudders* Then once they were cleaned, we ate them...go figure..LOL
No, I knew it was a turtle, I catch them all the time, just not on that little pole. LOL I have regular turtle rigs that I use to catch them and then make soup out of them. Some good eaten right there. I had seen the turtle out there trolling around and when I set the hook, I knew it was him, especially by the way he came in. Deffinately a lot different than a fish when they are on the run as the turtle just slowly comes in and if he gets dug in, then it is hard to get him out, that is why
the line broke, cause once he got into the bank he got dug in and he was WAY to big to bring in on that line. He would have made a hell of a pot of soup though. :)
I eat snapping turtle and im 12 never got poisened by the meat so.....

my brother was fishing for carps
he thought he caught one but
when he was reeling it in it wasn't
fighting at all, so he was like
"it's probably a stick or something..."
then BAM!! a huge snapping turtle with
my brother's hook on his shell and
his mouth WIDE open..... it was
creepy but then we caught it
and let it go.....

I have to agree with you there, we used to raise several different species of turtles and the snappers were the easiest to feed. LOL
