  • You shoul rename the title and write Peter Gabriel's plagiat of Armenian music to attract more attention

  • Simply divine.

  • Such a hauntingly beautiful sound! An important part of why i am drawn to Armenian music...

  • What a beautiful sound, thank you..

  • yavalia ! thanx for posting this !!!

  • Anyone know what the low sound is in the background of the first song? Another instrument?

  • Comment removed

  • This might be a 2nd duduk, playing the dam, a tonice tone, which is evoked by circular breathing, hence sounding continously.

  • i'ts called "bordun" or "drone" sound. playing the tonic of the scale. this is played with a second duduk with circular breathing to achive a nonstop sound.

  • gorgeous

  • This is one of the songs that Levon, one of the greatest duduk players that ever tought my great grandpa. Then my great grandpa to my grandpa. Then from my grandpa to my dad. Know from my dad to me. This song will calm your nerves if you ever get irritated. Trust me. Only the original version will.

  • It sounds so haunting shit bro its a 3000 year old instrument n it sounds fucking great

  • I don't understand why you say that nothing is mentionned about Armenia. If you check Peter Gabriel CD, the Passion, and you read the credits, then you will see that Armenia is written and recognized....but of course, you will haveto read first!

  • IN WHICH LANGUAGE, THAT IS !

  • I did not know what a duduk was till by accident I listen to it on you tube.... I can only say one thing... BEAUTIFUL ....

  • Merci aziz for this tribute. This is some of the most hauntingly beautiful instrumental playing I have ever heard. It has been a part of my life for years. Shat shat seeruna.

  • Sadly, this is the story of our people. Every time we create something brilliant or reach somewhere where no one has been before, it is immediately subject to thievery and injustice. In other words, its just too good for this world. Now I can at the least proudly say that WE are the envy of the world.

  • @ZHORPAUL YES TO MY BROTHER ZHORPAUL THIS IS MUCH STORY OF OUR PEOPLE FROM BEATTIFUL HOMELAND IN COCKASSES MOUNTAINS I HAVE MUCH LOVE FOR ARMENIA I SEE YOU TO THE SAME FOR THAT I AM APPRECIATE.

  • @trentmanslow Of course my brother. I wish to see the day that I do something so good for my country that I not think of crying because our people will finally not be in pain.

  • In the sleeve notes for my copy of 'Passion' it says:

    Vatche Housepian - Armenian doudouk

The doudouk is playing an Armenian melody, "The Wind Subsides". (Armenian doudouks recorded for Ocora Records under the direction of Robert Ataian.)

  • Yes, in the sleeve notes of my copy of "Passion" it reads the same thing.

Musicians borrow passages from others all the time, and the respectful ones always give credit where credit is due. I think it's clear that Peter is among this group.

  • shnorhagaludyun,iragan asduzu tsayn l'sedzi kor

  • Soul soothing!

  • Aziz jan, didn't we give you the go ahead ! ;)

Go for it, and I would wave the flag for you personally...

  • Should I also say that this could be a major copyright lawsuit?

Instead of complaining (as always), we could learn to take action whenever necessary.

  • There you go, Elen jan...

Start the law suit and I will personally contact Boston Legal; Alan Shore is my twin brother ;)

Please just do not forget to split the proceeds with Hovsepyan family... Thanks!

  • You don't have to personally contact them :)

Perhaps there is an Armenian organization who can complain about this or urge its members to send lots of letters?

I am sure that something can be done about this...you have to find the right people!

After all...this is a copyright violation...in USA it means something!

  • If there's no mention of Armenia in his soundtrack, then you should raise this issue some how.

I'm not joking....you MUST find ways to get this recognized as an Armenian track!

We should never let others take credit for our work!

  • Superb!

  • wow :))))))))))))))))))))wow:))))))))))))))):)

  • Yes, Credit should have been given.

I notice that Vache Hovsepian's vinyl recording is in the key of B and Gabriel's in C#.

Is it the same recording just pitch shifted? or played by someone else? . . .

    Very deep music inded !

  • Yes, obviously, its electronic age manipulation; same 1968 recording was used...

By then, Vache was passed away in 1978

    God rest his soul...

  • just beautiful..!

  • golden

  • Great music

  • Thank you so much for posting this incredible beautiful music. I totally agree with Gregory10000000000. Vache is godfather of armenian duduk. It really made me sad that his name was never mentioned in Gabriel's album.

  • Vache Hovsepian passed in 1978. Gabriel released his Passion in 1989. Apparently he didn't record Vache. He used his recording from old vynil and it mentioned in the booklet.

  • Does it say in "THE BOOKLET!", that Gabriel took one of the most traditional tunes of Armenia (Hovern Engan) and claimed it as his own masterpiece composition in The Last Temptation of Christ motion picture? (The Feeling Begins)

Or we rather, look at it as a TRANCE music phenomenon!

  • Vache has played this tune in Moscow, as early as 1956 mind you! He also is the first to play "Siretsi Yaris Taran" along with many other FIRSTS of own compositions and otherwise.

  • Meanwhile, Jivan had also claimed to be the first to play this tune, under a translated exotic name, "The Cool Breeze Is Blowing or Cool Wind Has Descended"!

  • Seems to me, we ought to rush and copyright our National Anthem, otherwise, its open for grabs, one of these days !!!

Next, we'll have Aborigines claiming Kochari as their own native dance!

  • Thank you so much for posting this incredible beautiful music. I totally agree with Gregory10000000000. Vache is godfather of armenian duduk. It really made me sad that his name was never mentioned in Gabriel's album.

  • Peter Gabriel is a nincompoop.

Putting some stupid beats under someone else's recording is not the same as composing a score.

  • Thank you for posting my favorite Duduk music.

    RIP Vache Hovsepyan!

  • Thank you for revealing this sad truth.

  • Vache Hovsepian was indeed the Godfather of Duduk. It's a great shame that his name ,nor contribution was not mentioned in the "Last Temptation of Christ", nor any credit given to Armenia for that matter.

  • Hrashali ev Ankrkneli VARPET !
