Found this video over a year ago and thanks to you I have mastered making sofrito. I use it in almost everything!!! Thanks... muchos abrazos y un besote! :)
Muchas gracias por su video por que mi esposo es puertorriqueño y siempre me pedía que le pusiera sofrito a la comida no sabia lo que era hasta que vi su video y lo hice y le gusto el olor de su sofrito.
This video is just what I need to get started making my own sofrito. I was buying it in the jar (Goya), but it goes bad so fast and I waste my money! This recipe is awesome and you explained everything so well. You are definitely going to be added to my favorites. The African-American community will be thanking you on their knees once I get this down to a science. Thanks again.
siempre me envian sofrito de PR, pero ahora no tendre q esperar tanto!!!que bueno q la encontre por'aqui!! para mi una principiante en la cocina, simplemente awesome jajajaja!!!
wow it's funny u say sweet peppers because i remember ma dukes...using Jamaican hot peppers...the small ones that resemble your overgrown sweet ones lol and yes we'd use some sweets but not in the sofrito but added into rice and then some sweet peppers for decoration on top of rice in the end...voila!! lol love ya vids...but again why haven't u used the jamaican peppers which many puerto ricans like my huge family usually cook with.....
@MrLouieLove Hi MrLouieLove I normally don't use the Jamaican hot peppers because in the region I lived in PR and my family normally does not use them. I'm sure it's like any place that each region does things a little different. One thing is for sure and that is that my husband would love the Jamaican peppers in the rice but me I'm a wimp with the spicy stuff:) Do love jerk chicken...I kinda endure it because it's sooo good:) Thanks for visiting!
Nice......and the salsa music in the background gives it a feel for Puerto Rico...... Thanks! I hope you keep uploading more videos.... :) I am Puerto Rican and love our food and the love we put into our dishes when cooking for our families and friends. :)
hello to all the puertorican people, excuse me how can i find swet peppers in mexico? i mind if they are known with another name? i like the puertorican food and i wanna to cook arroz con abichuelas for some friends, i can get the most of the ingredients right here ecept the sweet peppers i hope you can help me and give more informations about some puertorican dishes saludos espero me puedan ayudar ciao
@shorycal You can look for sweet bell peppers or substitute veggie by these names... cachucha pepper = rocatillo = aji dulce. I'm not familiar with Mexico so I don't know what market or place to send you in your country. So if any of my viewers know a place, please leave a comment. And @shorycal You're a super friend that you want to cook Puerto Rican dishes for your buddies! :)
Lol I know. You did a great job. I love sofrito, Vegetables are very important on a diet and this is a great way to doing it, and because i love spicy food i add the spice hehe
@porcelana4ever You are brave! I'm a whimp. I leave out the hot spices. Normally in sofrito there is no heat. The heat is reserved for the salsa for chips:)
I hate when my mother makes sofrito! LOL I love it, it does give a good flavor to the rice es que my motha be using onions and its soo soo strong lol I tried it to help her sometimes and i don't last. The funny thing is that my motha seems to be use to it. Hahaha, she has no reaction what so eva. We do sofrito similar to yours in are house! Thanks for the video!
@MiirelysLaBorii07 Hey Miirelys;) Oh yes, my eyes tear up every time. You're mom is a good woman if she can handle the cebollas...hahahaha. There is a trick to reduce and maybe eliminate the flood of tears...put onions in bowl with cold water and then place bowl in fridge for about an hour or so. It's suppose to help. I'm a die hard.... I just cut 'em up while I grin and bear it. Glad you came by my kitchen;)
@PuertoRicanStyle Yeah my momma is strong!!!! LOL hahahaha! Le voy a decir mi mama de eso cuz dito aunque she seems to be perfectly find...lol my mami isa G lol jk jk. Haha your strong if you bear it porque I dont omg no Ima try to do that when I do sofritooo! lol thanx
Thank you very much for that video! I can't find culantro here but I can find the jars of recaito. I have never used it in my sofrito and I wonder if and how much of the recaito I would add to my mixture? Great Video !!
@rams2gether Before you buy it, look at the jar and see if it's just recao (culantro). Some companies call sofrito "recaito" (it's used as part of the brand name). If you find a live plant or packaged leaves, use 3 or 4 leaves. Oh and Stas some grocery stores have herbs in paste form. You can use that too as a substitute. It's been a while since I used that so check out the tube for approximate amount to use. Thanks for watching Stas! Keep me posted;)
@PuertoRicanStyle It turned out GREAT! I was making it differently before but now that I found the culantro (paste) and the sweet peppers!!!! I'm in business now! Making the arroz con pollo---your way tonight! I'll keep you posted Un besito!
ohhh boyyy this lookes so good ^^ im gonna try it out but i have one problem... i went around to my grocery stores and when i asked for the "colantro" (im not sure if it is spelt that way :)) lol ) and they had no idea what it was... i even showed em a pic but they said they dident have any... i living in canada (mississauga, Ontario) do you have any idea where i can maybe buy seeds to plant these in my own garden?? ty for the up btw ^^ i cannot wait to try this :))
@fleming334 HomeDepot & Lowe's stores in your area may have a plant nursery...go to the section where they have the herbs, vegetable plants. You may be able to spot a Culantro plant. It might be too cool for this plant to survive in your area but give it a try. Also check out the message I left @rams2gether.
