  • Thanks for posting these. I was stationed at Chanute for tech. school in 1973,and it was good to "see" all the planes again.

  • that museum is the best, i live in rantoul

  • the museum is in need if a new home so if anyone wishes to contribute please do. We need to keep the history of Chanute AFB alive.

  • I'm sooo glad they saved the planes. I remember the little museum when I went there for firefighter school in 1983. Do they still have the WW I biplane squadron canvas with the german kills or the wing flap cable simulator? I distinctly remember those. We also had to practice rescue on the B52 when I returned for rescue school in Oct 1984. Thanks!

  • I went through tech school at chanute in early 1953. It was kind of neat. Had an Airmans club where you could have nuce mixed drinks and listen to a band play the swing music which was popular then. I left there and was assigned to 20th Air Force Okinawa where I worked on B-29 Bombers. Qualified for OCS and became an Officer in 1961. Major Taylor McKinnon, USAF Retired

  • Very nice video. I was stationed at Chanute from 1989-1993 as instructor in the NDI course. I loved my time there, it's a shame the base was closed. Our school was located

    in Dyess Hall.

  • Dyess Hall is still standing and in current use as a shipping/warehouse facility. The name of the company that owns it escapes me at the moment.

  • Good collection of photos of the only real part left of the old base and I remember most of the displays and the inside of the hangar as I was an instructor in the Air Launched Cruise Missile course at the far end of the building and ICBM was down in the hangar. Really a shame the base closed (I was among the last there at close in 93) and what condition the base is in especially White Hall that I taught Electornics Principles in back in the late 80's.

  • Thanks for the photos. I was stationed at Chanute in 1970, youur pictures brought back some great memories.
