  • DAT BASS!! Fucking sweet!

  • Watch out biatches, man with new ringtone in da town

  • Just reminds me of road rash lol

  • The C64 had a 'sid' music chip. So much better than spectrum and amstrad :)

  • if amiga was alive until that day. It would be way better the windows and iMac. In the ages of amiga windows was a black screen with letters and numbers and amiga was a powerfull tool for everything. Graphics, Sound, Programming, everything.

  • @leontas2007 True. But one day, MS-DOS(not Windows!) flourished and got in the way of everything.

  • AWESOME GOOD :-D

  • can someone assasinate the 3 with thumbs down on this video??? I mean, if you don't, i will!!!

  • How did the commodore pump out so many awesome soundtracks? TRON must live within.

  • sad...

    80's...

  • This video is most popular in: FINLAAAAND!

Just how can anyone dislike this?

  • one of the best games of c64

  • i very rarely comment on youtube vids but im 33 and this tune really brought me back, this was fantastic for its time the c64 had some of the best tunes ever, for me the golden age of gaming mid/late 80`s to early 90`s.

  • Finland is Ninja land !

  • I pity the kids who don't know about C64.

  • The start and main melodic line is really awesome, but what do we have next... It seems unbelievable how many marvellous "small" melodies Matt intervowen into one "computer tune". 0:50-1:21, 2:07-2:22, 4:57-5:40. And the best part 3:32-4:26 is utterly brilliant. Masterfull melody. It sounds to me like some "Honor theme" or "meditation theme". I see one man gathering his inner power to fullfill his quest. Last ninja vs the whole city.

    Music heals our souls...

  • Oh my gosh!!! Only 5 seconds in and I'm already getting chills.

  • ♥ .

  • @Geeko84 they must be punished for breaking the code of the honorable ninja.

  • epic melody .. rawrrrr .. godlike sound! :D

  • jeez im not as old as you guys i never played this game or had a commodore 64 but you all wearing nostalgia goggles ..........its real good i listen to it all time but to say theres no other good video game music is just ..soul stabbingly bad

  • kids these days got near real life video rendering games and I still think the happiest days of my life was when I got a disk drive for my c64 and last ninja 2!!!

    Damn I am old :/

  • It's been ~20 years for me and yet I still haven't heard any game tune coming close to this.

  • All that exists are a series of previews, the scanned map and lots of cool music by Feekzoid (The intro tune incomplete) and Jon for the game.

Case closed... this is all that exists of Last Ninja 4 on the C64...

  • Therefore not being restricted to just moving on the path. This was shown in a test demo of one of the Last Ninja 2 levels, where the Ninja could actually go on the grass.

A map was even created of one of the levels proposed by Jon to be in the game, but sadly System 3 turned down Jon's proposal to bring the game to the C64 (Even with Jon willing to take the whole project on himself), so Jon moved on.

  • As the C64 was dying, Jon Wells was out there trying to save it.

This was one of Jon's big efforts to try and save the scene, and bring one final Last Ninja to the C64.

Jon created a series of demos, and music was created to try and convince System 3 that they could make one final game in the series.

Jon was planning to allow the Ninja to interact more with the background of the game, and be able to walk on the grass. .

  • Rubber Shurikens!! Yeah, no doubt these choons where among the best on the humble c64, trying to think of more recent catchy game music, turrican 2 and speedball 2 on amiga of course, chaos engine was pretty nifty but maybe not overly memorable, snes stuff like castlevania and f-zero, streets of rage 1 + 2 which were bangin at the time, the sf II character tunes... can't think of ANY on current systems, any ideas?? its all pooey death metal/hip hop and stuff now, *whinge, rant!*

  • I was 14 year old when i got this game for the C64 tape version and the year was 1988 and Last Ninja 2 was just released .

I played all Last ninja games and i still loves them.

The Last Ninja: Commodore 64 (1987).

Last Ninja 2: Back with a Vengeance: Commodore 64 (1988),

Last Ninja 3: Real Hatred Is Timeless: Commodore 64 (1991),

  • @TheYamarider1000

Too bad that Last Ninja 4 was cancelled back than.

  • 16 years guy here :D

  • I do believe im starting to feel a bit old :D damn this way a long time ago.

The crappy shit music in todays games, are nothing like these old tunes. Back then games had to have good music.

  • Supeeeeer!!!!! :)

  • Everyone, shup up... Ben Daglish is GOD! (of C64 music) ;)

  • best video game song ever made to this day.

  • Very depressing to see the sad truth about this video; it's only viewed by males 25-54 years old. Women have no taste in music!

  • @unclejubalon u hit the spot...... my wife laugh at me......... when i hear this epic music... f... her...... this is my style pure synth pure geni..... i LOVE this

  • @unclejubalon It's missing some viewers, I'm a male 21 year old and I must have listened to this a hundred times. It's possible that some women are watching this, just not enough to show on the statistics.

  • @unclejubalon I'm only 20.

  • @unclejubalon As a woman myself, I feel kind of offended. >_> I am also a keen listener to videogame music; true, not as nostalgic to the Commodore 64 material as I was to consoles post-1990, but I'm often keen to hear new source material whenever I can.

So there, NOT ALL WOMEN have no taste in music. Take that! >:)

  • @freqrexy It was a JOKE.

  • Comment removed

  • @unclejubalon I am not woman and I'm only 21 but I do have great respect for the C64 and I grew up with the A500.

    It's something at least :C

  • @unclejubalon BS I'm 18 (15 when I originaly saw this).. but yea I am male.

  • @unclejubalon I'm 18!!!! :D

  • Best videogame soundtrack of any age ,or platform :) It's ageless!

  • masterpiece... ! lightyears ahead of its ilk....!

  • This tune is fabulous! C64 at its best! And the original owns all remakes.

  • This music needs an update... and a game update... REMAKE!!!

  • holy fuck, can still remember how i was playing that... great music here!

  • i really hope someone makes a really 3d version thats good, or a very good 2d version for examlpe last ninja in las vegas or in tokyo.

  • det best medicine there is.

  • send pleas - musik ! i will the last ninja song ! PLEAS MFG sina

  • It's a decent song but no more, certainly not the best ever. You'd have to look towards Turrican for that.

  • @turrican1900, I cant possibly say how wrong that statement is but I guess it comes down to taste.

  • @R33Racer

    Agreed.

  • I was pissed in this level because you couldn't kill the Knife Juggler.

  • Will be played at my Funeral.......R.I.P

  • EPIC!

  • truly epic!

  • This is my Ringtone.....has been since I got one.

  • I just noticed that this has the same bass pattern as the Target Renegade Loader. Which came first?

  • @OBobson hey bob i just heard the Target renegade..... i belive it not to be like pattern it just c64 synth, that said i like them both but this 1 is crazy mutch better

  • Fuckin` Epic. Holywood, game/music industry listen and learn... \w/

  • its still amazing what matt got out of 3 (!) seperate sound generators from c64..

  • my fav still it sounds kinda disco but still number one

  • never heard of the game, but hell this song sounds great

  • @Flevalt - The game was great too mate :) MASSIVE hit back in the day for the Commodore 64. The Last Ninja was original, challenging, VERY tough to beat. A true classic for its time :) Still great now if you ask me!

  • I loved the Ninja on C64 and I miss these times. Have a look on the games today. There is no heart on developing them. Even the soundtracks have no "soul".

  • Where can i download music from The Last Ninja 1& 2?

    Anton

  • @SuperAnton80 from youtube of course ;D

  • Where can i download misic from The Last Ninja 1& 2?

    Anton

  • I reckon the memories of this song and game will not be influenced by a possible dementia when I get older. Forgetting my fathers name but still able to point out where to poisen the food for the 16 pixels dog. oO

  • Memories sweet memories :)

    Also sad to see :(

    Anton

  • Best game ever, he was and will be my favorite hero for ever :D

  • good old times everything was better... the music, the gameplay, even the graphics compared to system...

  • Yeah, fantastic tune, from a technical point of view as well as regarding composition. And it's unbelievable how much superior the C64 version is over the Amiga version.

  • This is the best song ever! Thank you Matt Gray! You made my childhood memorable!:-)

  • Gooseflash from 3:10 to 4:25 The top is at 4:02 It is unbelievable that Matt done this job in a time were other soundproducer for the cid try to reach something that Matt made but no otherone ever coud. The sonority is also unbelievable. I want to hear this everyday since the times i was sitting in front of my new computer, the c64, in 1988...

  • The programmers at System 3, really knew how to push the C64 to it's limits.

It's amazing how they managed to make these games, with such limitations that the hardware posed in the 80's.. Some amazing tunes for sure, the last ninja series is really epic, and should be in every serious collectors inventory:D

  • @Pervypriest i am proud to say i still have my c64 with all 3 games there the only ones that still work actually lol

  • I remeber it like yesterday... go inside, hit the button on the wall, trapdoor opens... get going ... need shurikans..... one of the best C64 Games ever... I think loved the sewer - soundtrack too but the beginning of this song is really great ...

  • I was just thinking of something... game music isn't just background ambience, it's also a reflection of the main character's spirit, personality, and skill!

Since you can't talk to the ninja, this music is the best way you can relate to him

  • A truely awesome composition.

  • Matt should receive kinda Medal Of Honor for this supreme Work

  • This will be the first song at my wedding.

  • @covmeister Hehe, nice one dude, i would like to see the faces of guests there ;D \w/

  • 3:37 - Whatever I am. Help. My soul, not supposed to be here. Fading.

  • 3:37 - Whatever I am. Help.

  • haha utterly disgusting that Im still able to appreciate this - maybe because the sounds match the sounds in my head. Love it - 'Central Park' also - but if ye wanna get serious about this sort of music ...snarf guffaw then Rambo Fist Blood Part II intro & game music must also ring a bell.

  • Love it. It's so varied with many different sounds. Just amazing from start to finish but the real highlight for me is from 2:07 and the scale slide. Awesome.

  • Well I know where Muse thought up knights of cydonia now!

  • @holiday2010 "thought up"

    LOL

  • Part starting from 3:30 gives me the chills. EPIC beyond reality.

  • Completely and totally epic.

Damn, 0:48 - 1:21 is especially special in my opinion. Love this stuff.

  • There's no words to describe this ridiculously awesome piece of music. I just can't find any. But it's probably my favorite tune of all times. And it's metal!! \m/

  • Check out my version of the music too :)

  • Legendary.

Matt Gray. All we know is his name. I wonder what the guy's doing nowadays.

  • @adamweishaupt81 Not completely true. Matt was on the british songwriting and production team Xenomania for a while and is credited on Cher's horryfying "Believe" and the somewhat tolerable Sugababes "Round round" among others. He's no longer at Xenomania.

Unless you can wrangle up another Matt Gray who also got started in music in the 80's writting for the commodore 64 I'm sorry to say, but it's the correct Matt Gray.

  • Still heavy as fuck after 23 years!

  • Yeah!

  • I visited central park in 1988 and this damn tune just kept playing in my head too muuch gaming early on I guess!

  • 22 years later and still sounds amazing. No other game music in the last two decade comes close to this.

  • @80sguy34 Check out the PC game "Outcast" from 99. It is also a timeless classic, and the music is excellent.

  • @80sguy34

thumps up for ninja weddings :)^^

  • @80sguy34

I cant believe. 22 years. Where is my childhood...

  • I still return to the soundtrack of Last Ninja 2, after all these years. I bought Last Ninja 2 cassette version for my C64 back in the day, when the game got out. Matt Gray is a genius. I'd shake his hand in awe if I met him. Thank you so much, Matt!

  • It is not music, it is a piece of art. Period. Thanks for uploading :)

  • incredible

    it really takes me back

  • I just checked Matt Gray out on Discogs.

Can someone confirm, is this the same Matt Gray that made rave music in the early 90's as Industrial and Nitrous?

  • What's the bitrate for this?

  • sounds like u shredded the sub-woofers

  • brilliant

    enough said.

  • Matt went on to be quite succesful as a producer. After the C64 music he went on to write and produce his own dance music on an independant label. He DJ'd for a bit in clubs. He was a part of Motiv8 whose most famous track was Rockin For Myself. He's worked on remixes for Pulp (Disco 2000). Later on he was part of the production company who won an Ivor Novello award for Cher - I Believe. He is still working as a producer today. He still doesnt wear a belt.

  • @oxygene65 Ah thanks for the info! I was wondering if it was the same Matt Gray who was Industrial.

I didn't know he was part of Motiv 8 though, I always thought that was Steve Rodway by himself?

  • @Jarren202 , nah Matt was involved with a few Motiv 8 tracks, I'm sure he was involved with Rockin For Myself, and left shortly after that. You are right though, its the same Matt that did the Industrial and Nitrous stuff.

  • @oxygene65 Cool man, thanks for the info!

  • After all these years I still return to the OSTs of Last Ninja 1 and 2. Matt Gray, your game music is still the best! :)

  • Everyone who's even listened to this, and especially metal/punk/rock/whatever fans needs to check out Sidology 2 by Machinae Supremacy, it's on youtube.

It's a remix/collab of as the greatest sid melodies, of course including this one.

Those guys, they have really good taste in music and games, seriously.

  • God, I don't know what it is. But I wanna do something crazy when I hear this song. Maybe fight someone, I don;t know. I just get chills and wanna act on them.

This song is quite literally the closest thing to an orgasm in your ears aka "Eargasm".

Simply the best video game song ever created!

  • Quite possibly the greatest song in the history of songs.

  • Master piece of soundtrack. It's the soundtrack of my iPhones wakeup alarm.

  • I am 31 years old , and i still listen to this track during my workdays. enough said. 11/10

  • Simply the best track ever made on sid chipset !!

  • Last Ninja 1-2 brought the best musics to the gaming world.

  • Beautiful! Good Old Times..

  • No Doubt ... best kind of music ... When I was a kid, this music was magical. Now I´m old, like 30 , and I found in Dream Theater and progressive metal, kind of music like that hahaha !! I wonder if Dream Theater, Symphony X and all metal with keyboards played games like Last Ninja 1 and 2 with these terrific melodies !!!hahah

  • Walking through Central Park last year on holiday's (from Australia) and all I could think of was this game :)

  • This is the single best song from a video game. Ever. I will stand firmly by this.

  • @CaptainCaballero

You sir, have just won the internet!

  • @CaptainCaballero I'm standing with you brotha :p

  • @CaptainCaballero I believe We can say that for the whole OST...20+ years latrer and still loving it.

  • @CaptainCaballero

    i agree..best

  • @CaptainCaballero Yeah! I Also want to hear to hear the sound of a real good computer game from the late 80's, and I found it The Last Ninja II from 1988 8)

  • this is just fantastic, a true masterpeice and probably the best c64 track of all time

  • Questa è una delle più belle musiche in assoluto del c64 e della mia infanzia!!!!(ho 35 anni)

    STUPENDA

  • Verissimo, è mitica!!!!!!!!!

  • This song is godly! <3 I love it sooo much! ;__;

  • Awesome game and music for it's time, loved it back in the day!

  • I broke millions of joysticks on this game :***

Ahhh i was like 6 or 7 back then

Old times... Spread luv ppl ;)

  • i miss the old times. :( everything SUCKS ASS now!

  • @Viic88

How can you miss the old times? You were born the same year this game came out.

  • well, i grew up with those games. these games wasnt that old when i started playing them

  • it's just unbeliavalble how musics were so much more better than grapics... oh god i love this

  • Maybe it's just my imagination, but after staring at that screen for a minute or two I could have sworn I saw the ninja wink at me.

  • Yup! It sure does!

  • This song is a perfect mix of rock and oriental syle effects. I remind that in '80 was funny to see the film "American ninja" with Dudikoff and imagine that The last ninja 2 was the tie-in!

  • Composers and Programmers talent does it all.. No matter what the platform is the game created on.

  • @rastgele99 Exactly. If the composers and Programmers put enough heart, blood, sweat, and tears into the game that they develop then the game will turn out good, just like this one. Why can't ALL licensed videogames be made by talented composers and programmers?

  • Don't get the Vitrual Console version It's been sped up so the music is completely ruined.

It makes me sick to see Nintendo fuck up this masterpiece.

  • not to mention the intro and end clips removed

  • The original didn't have any intro and the end was just a text screen. Maybe you're thinking of Last Ninja Remix?

  • perhaps but the version of Last ninja 2 on the Wii doesnt either

  • @snake2006 - They fucked up Mayhem in Monsterland aswell... the controls are too fiddly and the music slows down and effects become distorted every time you move anywhere on-screen.

You have to stand perfectly still for the music and effects to actually work properly. It's a disgrace.

  • amazing!!!!!!!

  • That tear in my eye :***

  • This is my favourite gaming tune ever, super epic and catchy! I would really want to hear a faithfully made cover of this with real instruments (japanese flutes, orchestra, electric guitars etc.) The covers that I have heard lose something in comparison to the original IMO.

  • it still kicks the shit !

  • I had forgotten just how good this ingame score is. Matt Gray made some unbelievable tunes for System 3 back in the day. Check out his Dominator score also.

  • keep in mind chaps that C64 had only 3 channels audio, and all of them were analogue...no digi samples at all

  • The music and the games....master peice! Thats all I can say!

  • EPIC and I dont even know this game [I found this music on a vid for Oblivion about Dwemer Ruins mod type Dwemer and check second vid] This definitly gets a 5/5:))))))))

  • I just had the biggest rush of nostalgia on finding this. don't think I played this game after the age of 10, and at that time the music simply kicked ass. 16 years later, it still does.

  • yeah its one of the most epic themes ever

  • I agree!
