Pete, the bolt on neck is a great idea for strength. However, I am assuming that the neck is permanently on after you glue the fret board to the neck and sound board.
That's how I've been joining the necks on my peardrop ukes, but being over-cautious, I've been making my neck heels pretty hefty to hold that barrel nut.
That looks great Pete, I think I'll try it as well. Next up are some island style ukes without fretboards, but I figure I could drill it from the heel since my backs always cover the heel and I fit the neck before the back. Hmm... food for thought.

Sven - you should use the @Spanish' heel on those island builds, not a bolt on...
