  • i just love these musics

  • 0:44 No, but you did nerd me out again.

  • Did you know that when you set your radio to band other than FM, ex LW SW aka AM, you can actually hear if your remote controller actually works or not?? Well, a bunch of people here will say "Why did you ckeck that in the first place, you retard??". Answer?? By coincidance actually. Greets from PL

  • why are bot top comments fucking retarded

  • @deathsmileyinc

Because bigger retards give them a thubs up

  • Alton Brown of science?

  • nice video.....how about UV light now? :)

  • Dude ur the Coolest!!!

  • Collin Rules in Electronic Science

  • @mikado387 No. Aperture Science.

  • yes, you blew my mind

  • light is a particle DUMBASS

  • Comment removed

  • @MrRedneckfishgitter Wave-particle duality. Look it up.

  • @MrRedneckfishgitter check your facts dumbass :P

ccyls is correct, light is both a wave and a particle.

  • That is one sexy bread board.

  • Mother Creator

    ~~ Loves you ~~

  • Sorry about your balding.

  • ok he is cool and all and I like his vids but OH MY GOD HIS VOICE IS SO BLAND!

  • dude you should have been my science teacher, or tech class

  • i HATE these kind of pseudo scientifical explanation on youtube-level. just skip them, talk faster, or link a wikipedia article. your speech on infrared light made me RAGE. PRETTY FAST.

  • @MaZe741 Suggestions - maybe you could rewire your internal circuit to divert all that negative energy OR just don't watch these things...Im sure you would be RAGE free and Colin happier for it ;)

  • hey look s Wiimote

  • A terrible teacher.

  • COOL VIDEO

  • All we missed is kipkay!WEEKEND PROJECT

  • WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS WEEKEND PROJECTS KIPKAY!

  • thumbs up if you think the guy looks and sounds like the villain (Agent Smith) in The Matix. "Hello Mr. Anderson". Google agent smith.

  • @vivekkumarmalhotra he IS agent smith!he is everywhere haha

  • @sixstringmania Yeah So true.

  • those sideburns are fucking discussing

  • @AVerbene oh really, what are they "discussing"? idiot.

  • try explaining the principle of duality

  • Are you guys going to extend the deadline for the Halloween contest another day since your servers have been down for 45 minutes now? I wasn't able to submit my entry from about 8:30 pm Pacific and onward.

  • His character is.. odd.

  • UV is much more interesting. For example, scan your ID or drivers license with UV light. You'll see features that you don't see in normal light. Pass some U.S. currency over the UV light too. Features pop out.

  • i have that kit!! :)

  • My mind is full of fuck now.

  • u made Electronics interesting for me .....

    .... reLLy thanx ...

    .....from INDIA ...

  • compare Collins view count on this video and the make live videos from today and back 2 weeks. Who got the most views?

  • i love the low pitch intro DODO DODODODODOOO DOUO DOU DOU

  • Collin man i want to say TY for great videos i have learned a lot from them... TY MAN U ARE GREAT!

  • Collin has an xbox360 remote controll does that mean he has an xbox360 thats awesome :O

  • @93freestyl93 where does he have the xbox controller

  • @matthewtchernev123 not an xbox controller , an xbox remote controll for when you are watching dvd's to rewind and pause and all that look at 3:57

  • @93freestyl93 or he uses it with pc? like me? for games like limbo or bastion or everyt single game thats designed for xbox but got ported for pc?

  • @93freestyl93 nvm ...

  • I Never knew cameras can see IR's !!!

  • Collin, make a mind data transfer device so i can have your awesum knowledge

  • i find it funny that in school we are just starting to lern about infra red light and ultra violet light. (i suck at spelling). so this video is just more info

  • @nuttybar14 Same here, we are leaning about photocells and the pace is so incredibly slow i feel like yelling:

    "YOU KIDS ARE SUCH THICKO'S"

  • I <3 Collin.

  • I love Collin's Lab, Circuit Skills, Make Presents, every single Make: video apart from Sylvia's Super Awesome Mini Makers' Show. She's just showing off that she's being famous because of her Awesome father, and that she couldn't do any of this without her awesome father, and that her awesome father has everything I could possibly want, and that her father is awesome! Huhhh... Sorry, I'm just so mad!

  • @thecvideospiczo jelaous!

  • So it's the electro-magnetic waves sending the information from my remote control to my T.V. The phototransistors in the cameras detect the electro-magnetic waves and that's why camera detect infrared light and that's how the motion detecting devices on the wall in schools and offices and the motion detecting hand driers. Wow! It wasn't a bad thing to learn about advanced electronics and circuitry! I really find it amazing!

  • hah, cool! I made this in my aviation class last year.

    (we were practicing soldering)

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome, i wanted to know how it was called the passive IR receiver. now i know ;)

  • I think the IR motion sensors work by sensing heat. It's infrared but it's far infrared spectrum not near infrared like the motion barrier.

  • wheres kipkay

  • Can we please stop badmouthing Make Magazine in these comments? I love all of the things Make: has brought to my life as a maker, and I don't think that my love for Colin's videos, which is great, quite outweighs my appreciation for the community and information Make: has provided in total.

  • @Skyfinity Me too! Apart from Sylvia's Super Awesome Mini Makers' Show. She's just showing off that she's being famous because of his Awesome father, and that she couldn't do any of this without her awesome father, and that her awesome father has everything I could possibly want, and that her father is awesome! Huhhh... Sorry, I'm just so mad!

  • @thecvideospiczo agree with you my friend, ido.

  • BFFs!

  • Оп рлдвжїідіх

  • this ruled

  • LightProductionsTV

     ikr!

  • collin could be the president

  • hahaha. bff. that made my day.

  • Collin is awesome, I'm watching his videos for the exact same reason i started studying electrical engineering.

  • collin, yes you blew my mind.

  • This is pretty much the only reason I watch this channel. That and some of the robot projects.

  • Thank you for actually explaining things and showing us how to MAKE things. Instead of just hanging out and chatting.

  • i would like to have seen some bits about the difference between photo transistors and photo diodes in practical application.

  • Dude make ur own channel please i want to sub

  • wow so now i can stop myself from stealing my own candy!!!!!!!!

  • colin plays xbox 360 !!!

  • Is that the guy from Flight of the Concords?

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah he looks like the guy from the league

  • Why did he not show us how to put the kit together, I WANT to see him SOLDER.

  • Is it just my speakers or does his microphone sound like he's underwater?

  • i made this kit its shit

  • #FTW

  • @YoWooDDecks Look up the output curves (light output vs frequency) in the factory data sheet to see if a given LED will put out IR.

  • He's like a nerdy Mr. Smith from the Matrix.

  • Great as always Colin!!! Thank You!

  • what's collin's gamertag?

  • Collin plays xbox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this how heat seeking misslies work? in which case how does tha make it turn the rocket

  • @FlyHighRC386 I'm guessing a heat seeking missile would have a series of sensors on it. When it's target changes direction each sensor would read a different amount of IR and the goal of the Missile would to always have all IR signals the same so it would probably adjust it's fins until the signal is equal of all sensors (facing it's target) pretty simple stuff. Look up a Solar Panel tracking system, it probably uses something similar to that.

  • @FlyHighRC386 The IR sensor is actually many sensors. When the target goes off-center, the side sensors output correction signals to the missile guidance to bring the target back to the center. (I could tell you about the tiny monkey with a joystick looking out the window, but that's classified. To avoid problems with PETA lawsuits, the military just spouts the party line about IR sensors instead..)

  • 89th

  • i love velleman kits, nice breadboard, like this kit and i think infared is interesting

  • YAY COLLIN'S BACK

  • This gave me a great idea for truning off any TV sadly its already been created by the way xbox for the win

  • PTH circuit board kits are soooo 2000. :)

  • Collin is like the Alton Brown of electronics.

  • @everlastingphelps Alton Brown is the man!!!

  • @everlastingphelps Holy shizz, you're right!

  • broken TV remote + cheap LED flashlight + wiimote = the cheapest digital whiteboard I've built to date.

  • Yay, and Xbox controller! :D

  • 2:35 i made this IR barrier from one transistor, two resistors, one IR LED and one pfototransistor,

  • @Dri0m you do know that device you made will pickup regular light as well thus making it not as effective

  • @sciencething0101 i used IR phototransistor ;P

  • Comment removed

  • the first question you asked: my answer yes i did know that

no you didnt blow my mind

also this is for the people who think that infra red led looks that blue irl, it does not, basically because cameras can detect ir and that is the only light meant to go through the plastic of the led, the led looks seethrough because the ir is going through it and into the camera, in real life we cannot see ir so the led plastic would look much darker

  • What about using IR LEDs for night vision?

  • @Archer7Tadayoshi You mean to light up the scene for an IR camera? They do that.

  • Collin, excellent job here - I agree with others who are encouraging you to setup your own channel. Thanks, Doug

  • We've been expecting you, number 310.

  • i already have that kit

  • Collin make your own channel so we can get to ultraviolet. This is too awesome.

  • Very educational! You are awesome!

  • You're awesome Collin, make your own channel!

  • Collin could you make a basic guitar disortion pedal?

  • @TheTiedyeproductions Pretty sure thats been done by Make :x Search it :))

  • Now if you look closely in the infrared video you see a pixel flash i think its a ghost... Herp Derp.

  • Yay collin can you show us how to wire a flyback or how to make a driver for it

  • I just love you collin, no gay

please make your own youtube channel

  • pause at 0:46 lol

  • @humza6951 i did hahahahhahaaha

  • Come on, Colin, you're too cool for this Make magazine club.

  • Colin is for the win!

  • this guy is always awesome!

  • IR fall out of visible range thats y invisible to human eye if u want to see that ray put ur cell phone camera over the IR diode to see that ray

  • collin please make your own channel

  • If Collin made an own channel i would unsub this channel :P

  • @LightProductionsTV collin has his own channel fucking asshole

  • @LightProductionsTV Yeah since there are no "Kipkays" anymore

  • @LightProductionsTV Collin does have his own channel

  • @reviathon360 O RLY? Can I have a link?

  • @therealquade

    /user/CollinMel

  • I've got a simple IR project on my chan if anyone is interested. I made a simple IR Illuminator circuit, then removed the IR filter from a camera to see the IR light better. Basically, a night vision cam.

  • I <3 Collin

  • cool dutch words on the box of the detector :D

  • No dude, you didn't blow my mind. What you could do to blow my mind is to share ways so teens could manipulate teachers with these waves. (Try to spare naseau)

  • You, sir, are awesomesauce!

  • Comment removed

  • Collin, you are the shit.

  • It's weird cause I can see remote's IR transmitters blinking without any cameras. Just my eyes?

  • @jimmyjamjar10101 wow then u must be cyclops...

  • @YoWooDDecks The Infrared LEDs are invisible to human eyes.

  • @hugo6644493 I have been able to see every single IR LED I have looked at. The light is another matter.

  • Nothing i didnt already know, try explaining a photon processor!

  • Great video, as always :)

You should really start your own channel.

  • UV light next time fuck yeah!

We are going to play CSI

  • xD Emitter/Detector pack (BFF)

  • What sort of ranges can you get with the receiver and the transmitter?

  • Oh!!! So this is what Austin Powers is up to now...

  • Stop saying where to buy these pre-assembled kits. We want to MAKE the electronics not to buy them

Thumbs up if you want the producers to see this.

  • @nar98 use your brain then bro...look up the datasheet on jameco for the kit and collect the parts yourself.

  • "Did I just blow your mind.. I'll give you a moment.."

    *1 second passes*

    "It's true......."

Son of a bitch, I wasn't ready yet!

  • Physics! :)

  • He is so COOL!

  • Colin should make his own country!

  • it was all good until my video started buffering......

  • Wait, if the long wavelength of red is about 400 tera-HZ, The what about the more energetic, shorter wavelength Violet?

  • Infared hmm i was thinking of lasers. :P

  • That piezo buzzer has how many inputs? Power and GND or more? Anyway, we could control something else besides the buzzer right? As long as the load resistance is equal to the buzzer?

  • *detector

  • at this point this guy is the only reason im subbed to make

  • Emitter/receiver pair

    (bff)

  • yeah i got confused as soon as he said materials

  • Could an IR sensor, like the big white one be used for lets say a custom made fuel injection timing computer instead of a proximity sensor? I'm building a home made Electronic timing and fuel injection system for small engines?

  • @NightTurkey82 How would it work? What heat is it looking at? And would the heat of the engine mess it up?

  • Number 9!!! :D

  • YEAH!

  • top 10!

  • woo

  • this has to be most informative video I've seen explaining IR in a loooong time.

  • Collin, you should make your own channel.

  • @tibounise -.-

  • @tibounise he has one
