I see what you're trying to do, but I'd suggest trying to roll off some of that low end. Makes your vocals sound less muddy. Play around with EQs and find something that works for you. Play around with a flanger. The flanger will do a lot for getting that effect you are looking for. It gives it that harsh sound you hear in bands like Psyclon Nine and Hocico. a bit of distortion and reverb couldn't hurt, either, but I think most of it is in the flanger.
yehh i know this method isnt exactly great. but if there were actually some tutorials out there showing how to do this RIGHT then maybe i'd know how to do it right :)
Thanks for the tutorial. If you can't sing ( which I doubt you can't you just think you can't ) then just talk in a deep voice with sustain and then do the same thing you did with the whisper technique. Then layer them both and if you do it right you should have better depth. You don't really need to yell or scream into the microphone. It's actually better to record your voice at talking level or a bit louder.
If I remember correctly it's @ 73dB but don't quote me on that.
@L33TSP34KL0L. hey mate thanks for all the tips. sorry it took me so long to answer you. i'm watching the 52 reason/record videos you recommended and theyre SOOO helpful lol. think i might upgrade to reason 5 cuz that live recording ability would be really awesome. thanks for yer input
YO! Thanks for the tutorial ^^ Im from Canada but I lived in England for 10 years :D I sing and scream and I most defiantly say FUCKKKK YOURRR NEIGHBORSSS!
4)One thing I have done for the industrial project (and it seems that no one else has done it) is adding distorted "back vocals" to certain song parts to highlight them nd make more atmospheric. I did it by cutting certain parts of main vocal track in Audacity, messing with Line 6/Audacity effects and re-sampling them in Reason using new NN-XT. The trick is to blend them well with the original track and make sure that they match together and not kick each other out.
3)Play around with a little unison effect to make your vocals more "spaced" and more expressive. I would not recomment to put all 16 voices and make it all "wet" but small tweaks to unison always adds nice volume to vocals.
2)Add the MClass compressor as the insert effect to your vocal track. Compression is a good friend of every producer, if you are not familiar with it, research it on Propellerhead website and among "52 reason/Record tips' by J . Bernard. Compressing the vocal track will even out the amplitudee and will make it stick out without excessive loudness/clipping or make it a little quiter, if you will compress it down.
Nice tutorial man, I have similar set-up of Audacity and Reason for vocals. Great tip on shifting pitch manually using Audacity!
I also have some pieces of advice for you to mess around with Aggrotech/Dark Electro style vocals that I record in Audacity and produce in Reason.
1)Audaicty has a nice built-in Line 6 pedals pplugin under "Effects". Give it a try, but make sure that you lower the volume and start with very low settings, since it cn easily be transofmed into unusable noise.
Thanks to your tips i successfully made a industrial song in fl studio...so thanks man.
