  • Mine didn't plate very evenly either. I think you have to move the field around. This is not a very sophisticated plating method, but it was fun.

  • How did you get the copper to plate evenly? I tried a different bath mix and I kept getting spines of copper growing out in bumps.

  • Is the vinegar, salt, etc, mix is something especially make for this purpose? Mean is it a product usually used for plating? Or did u only mixed some products all together, to obtain an electrolytic solution? If its not a specific plating mix, is it a chance that other chemicals will ''want'' to plate the steel, to finally result with a plating full of impurities? Thank you, in advance.

  • use lower voltage, it will take a bit longer, but look better. if your anode bubbles, the voltage is too high for electroplating (not enough copper ions in solution for the electron flow to deposit on cathode, so the electrons break the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen instead)

  • Make copper acetate, Mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide with 2 parts distilled white vinegar then add a small chunk of clean copper pipe to the solution, a reaction will take place and it will turn blue like the color of windshield washer fluid. use this for your electroplating solution, dip your metal to be plated in battery acid for 5 min. and rinse with distilled water before putting it in the tank, this cleans off any contamination from the metal and etches the surface to ensure even plating..

  • @7777dmith7777 if you have battery acid why are you using copper acetate anyways? you have nitric or sulfuric acid, you can use these to very simply make copper(II) nitrate and copper(II) sulfate respectively, which are the standard copper salts used for the process.

  • @uytiify Who want's to see your mother dancing anyway...

  • 12v is to high

  • I remember seeing on a show television one time("How things are made" perhaps???) about something being electroplated. In the show they mentioned that nickle is first electroplated on because it easily sticks to a lot of metals and then copper is electroplated on second.

  • @murphyld66 I think that you will find that chromium plating steel is a three layer process (to do it properly). Copper first, then nickel then chrome. If chrome is just put on by itself the chromium will rust and peel.

  • Great video. WHO IS PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND????

    I simply MUST know. Thanks

  • @sawdust954 Lol.. noone is playing. Its a music track

  • y tooth past

  • use a 12v to 24v Automotive battery charger, it will make the process more efficient.

  • i like man

  • Putting a "strike" plate of nickel (which bonds really well to steel) will allow the copper plate to adhere really well with less bath time.

  • - too the your project not +

  • might i ask what the sugar and the toothpaste does in the solution to oxidize the copper?

check out my video where i do it with just vinegar and h2o2.

  • Is he Clint Eastwood! Cool voice and great content. Adam. England.

  • Bob Mould, nice.

  • Damn might!!! put 'em closer each other!!!

    see the other videos first!

  • in chemistry we did this. we used copper sulphate solution and i did a pound coin (I'm from England) and apparently this is one of the few things that serves the death penalty - defacing the queen lol. the other two are high treason and killing swans (WTF?) just thought I'd spread my knowledge to the world. or those who watch these vids on youtube...

  • how do u no where the positive n negitive side is on the adapter cuz mine only has 1 wire comin out of it

  • this is cool .. as i understood , i need to connect the anode to the source of copper and the cathode to the obect i am plating , right? :D ... 5/5 stars for your video m8

  • right!

  • Nice Vid... Looks like it came out nice.. Check my method out
