Man I remember playing a Maverick guitar about 10 years ago when doing a work placement at a music shop and I totally fell in love with them. Very nice man.
hey i like the black maverick!the sound is great. i have a grey one myself, its a shame they dont make these anymore, but good for us because we have rare guitars now, well rare enough.
just wondering how much money/effort was that to put in do you know?does the sustain still work on the low strings?i wouldnt mind getting one for mine. but i have a kill switch installed in mine already so im not to sure if im brave enough to drill more holes in it lol.
how hard is it to install? and the big question is. if the battery dies. does the whole guitar die? or can you have a bypass mode so to speak so the guitar works no matter what? thanks again
The sustainer is linked to a DiMarzio Evo in the bridge position - can't remember what I had installed in the middle position now....it was a few years ago!
Is it just the sustainer system that ceases to work after the batteries die, or do the pickups stop working as well? Is that the FSK-401 or the 101? Thanks man!
Sounds awesome when u switch to the harmonic effect around the 30 sec mark
It's been a couple of years since I used it, but if I remember right when you're in sustainer mode and the battery dies - you get no sound from any pickups, however switch out of sustainer mode and you have your normal pickups. I got the 101 and had a guitar tech sort the wiring for me! Yeah I always loved the way it would smoothly switch into the harmonic mode =D
There are Fernandez guitars that have them built in (look up the fernandez website, I can't remember it offhand.....) - but the other alternative is to buy a sustainer kit from their website and have your local guitar tech fit it for you (or do it yourself.....if you are super confident with the tech side of things...)
the jackson dk2s has a built in sustainiac pickup, with 3 modes - normal, mix, and harmonic. i dont want to spam, but i have some examples of it in my vids.
If I remember rightly (and it has been a long time...): it is in the neck position, however when it is turned on it acts as a driver (the actual pickup is the bridge, the sustainer itself acts as the driver creating continuous magnetic pulses). When it is not turned on, it functions as a normal neck Hum.pup. So yeah, my point was that when it is switched on you cannot use the neck pup (i.e. the sustainers 2nd function) - it MUST use the bridge pup to function.
lotusfeet is right: driver is in the neck pup, when activated, bridge pup is selected. to me, it doesnt seem like the position of the driver should matter. electromagnetic waves at resonant frequency = sustain, regardless of where it is applied, so why should position matter?
Because the harmonic mode will not work. It has to be right below the neck to produce 5th harmonics. It will work anywhere else just for normal sustain, but it won't work very well.
Well if I remember rightly the guitar originally was about 700 pounds (UK), then the sustainer was $200NZ (I THINK), the other pup (a DiMarzio Evo - can't remember how much that was), and the installation came to like $100 I think. Just rough guessing these figures though (it was a while ago heheh).
i didnt know they'd stopped making guitars, ah well my ones fucked anyway but my local guitar shop has a few in still. i shall have to get mine set up properly now i cant just get a new one.
Well what actually happened i that they made a certain number of guitars and sold pretty much all of them t Russia apparently. There's one shop in UK called Intersound where Steve deals with the remaining ones. Lots and lots of one off customs in there to feast your eyes on. Also they still actually make guitars but in China and under a totally different name. I've been trying to track them down a while but to no avail!
Interesting, well I hope business goes well enough that they make some return to the uk in the ear future. I'll have to check out that Intersound shop.
noooope I have it installed in the neck (I bought the humbucker version, so I couldo only have it in bridge or neck pos. I'm not sure what difference it makes actually!
mavericks totally rule... but that's an f 1 with a middle pickup in it. f3's have creme binding on the necks!!! check my vid i have the only red one in the world... unless you get yours customed
It actually wasn't a custom shop! I had never seen one either, if you look at the F3 in the Maverick catalogue its not identical to that, and its not identical to the F4 either - I just happened to come across it in a music shop I was working in at the time - p.s. yep fernandes sustainer

how long do the batteries last?
wildkofta 2 years ago
I could usually get 2-3 days out of it before the battery started wearing out, and that was with a lot of playing.

do u think it would work with the sustainer driver in the middle position of my ibanez rg350ex instead of in the neck position?
abc123CG 3 years ago
I would THINK so, but it would definitely be worth consulting a technician about it first.
lotusfeet 3 years ago
No, that will not work. It MUST be in the neck position.

You can't use the neck pick-up when it is switched on (because it uses the bridge pickup to function).

You can only install the Sustainer in the Neck position. It needs the bridge pickup in order to get the feedback.
