  • Thanks so much...

  • That is a great and easy way to make a knife.

  • Very good idea! I just started making some knives out of saw blades but never thought about recip saw blades. Maybe for my next video.

  • XSwingGolf ...Thanks for watching and good luck....

  • Great idea. I have a lot of those laying around. Now I can re-use them!

  • @sonofursus ...Great....Thanks for watching!!!

  • nice,i have been using old[and new] sawz all blades for making *utility*knives for years, usually the wood blades are a little stouter, and they work excellently, hold a good edge, and go anywhere.

  • @stmike5707 ...Thanks for watching.....

  • now make a survival saw!!

  • good idea.

  • Uriel1816 ....Thanks so much..

  • I LOVE MAKING HOMEMADE WEAPONS FOR THE PRICE OF FREE AND STILL WORKS THE SAME AS THE RGULAR ONES :-)

  • reaper83001 ....It's a good way to recycle and it works great!!!!

  • @cjc5531 nice idea man but try and try it out at home so u know when you need to use it works good

  • TheiBoXeR...Will do....Thanks for watching!!!

  • @cjc5531 its ok man

  • @theguydudety If forging is not for you, then buy "full hard " hack saw blades, sawzall blades, OLD hand saws for a thin blade. most good Top name Chainsaw bars, make servicable knives. if you can build a fire you can forge and really open up your steel choices. hammer heads (tomahawks "4140" / "L6" steel), car axels / Leaf springs, "4140 / 5160 / 1070" steel(BIG blades), bearing races "usually" 52100 steel, Hope this helps!

  • @theguydudety on the 3rd trip take it back to where it just starts melting fast (1500F) and quench in a container (capped metal pipe) of pharmacy mineral oil. temper in your home oven at 400F for 2 hours bring it out to cool to room temp, then back in for another 2 hours.

  • @theguydudety a good "general" heat treat recipe for that type of steel is to keep some kosher salt nearby, as it is a great simple high heat thermometer. It's melting point is 1475F! and after forging to shape, stress relieve by sprinkling salt in a "coke line" (for lack of a better term) then heating it up to just a shade past where the salt melts fast. ttake it out and let it cool to room /outside temp, next again but this time pull it when the salt starts melting...

  • @theguydudety If you absolutly have to have a knife made from found steel, you can forge one from basically any steel spring lying around. round springs can be forged to 2x diameter wide. (i.e. 1/2" round = 1"Wide x 1/8-3/16"Thick)

  • Hey all I'm a knife maker and I'm unsure if anyone has already commented on this issue. but BI METAL BLADES WILL NOT MAKE A GOOD KNIFE!, They are junk low carbon steel with HSS (high speed steel) teeth welded on! you need to find a "Full Hard" Blade like a Starrett Red Stripe. (green or blue stripes are bi metal so there out too!) to grind a blade out of. Good video otherwise!

  • Elnyne ...Thanks for the insight....

  • @Elnyne I think the idea is that they are better than nothing, and with minimal effort and supplies needed to make one.

  • @Elnyne hey what is a good metal that anyone could find in a regular house their house? the only thing tht i could think of is a used lawn mower blade

  • @cjc5531 thanks for the info great kit by the way

  • kg51596 ....Your very welcome...

  • Can you please make a review on the kit in this video

  • kg51596 ....Got one done.....In your YouTube seach bar type in cjc5531 then you will click on CJ's channel and it will have all my vid's. Just look for Maxpedition FR-1 and you will see a part I and part II. If you have any trouble let me know...Thanks for watching...

  • @kg51596 Niffty!!

  • Rockunstank ...Thanks so much....

  • Why didn't you leave the saw teeth and just sharpen the other side?? You could have gotten multiple uses... Knife, saw, striker for your firesteel....

  • trollgoal ...The teeth were only ground off where the handle is above the blade teeth are intact. You should be able to see this in the Vid .......Thanks for watching...

  • dropped ?

  • zaco519...got ya...Have others vid's in front of it ...almost where I can do it. I will follow up with an email to you when its in the works...

  • Great idea.

  • PACER2320 ...Thanks so much...

  • This is cool I just finished a building project and i got alot of these laying around so I am make one of these and try at a throwing knife thanks

  • Awesome idea! Very pro-active & resourceful!

  • ariesdarko....Thanks so much....

  • zaco519 ...Had other request as well...Will try may take a while since I have other Vid's to do...But maybe a can push it up...Thanks for the request...

  • @cjc5531 please do,

where i live mechanics and electricians use a hacksaw blade to make something kinda like a utility knife, but they end up with something below rubbish, and i found a reciprocating saw blade the other day lying around my workshop

  • Very creative

  • tomi3557...Thanks so much....

  • hey think you could put up a video on how to make that knife of yours looks real cool.

  • Sergent9932 ...I'll try...Behind on some other Vid's....Thanks for watching

  • I use a Dewalt saber saw at work, with these same blades and have never thought about putting them in my survival pouch, damn good idea, thanks.

  • bennyboyshaw ...Your very welcome and thanks for watching...

  • can you send me a msg with the contents??? im making a kit right now and im wondering what food i should put in it

  • What kind of shop did you get the used blades from? (Trying to put together a 0 cost bushkit to show on youtube...Landscapers usually have good razorblades for exactoknives that they'll give you)

  • Smart idea, thanks for sharing. Btw. very nice survival pouch.

  • What kinda bag is that?

  • noisepuppet ....That is the Maxpedition FR-1 pouch

  • Certifiedfunds very soon...Thanks for asking...

  • salve e molto interessante

  • viverenelbosco .....grazie per i vostri commenti

  • now that's a great idea. as long as good handles available it's a go.

  • maxinpains ...Thanks

  • @cjc5531 yeah , think about it!

it's flexible, sturdy, it's cuts accordingly, light..very light. saves a lot's of space, able to use strike a fire fom magnesium block. man. someone hit me from blind spot!!!

  • maxinpains ..very well said...Thanks!!!

  • im making one right now for my grandpa for a gift and i payed a total of 6 dollars not including tax at lowes home improvement for a 8 inch blade and a file and im getting power cord sometime next week

  • teabaggerable......that's cool I'm sure he will really like it......Take care and thanks for watching...

  • Nicely wrapped handle.. Clever fellow! Well done!

  • DarkSeraphane thanks so much.....

  • Nice work!

  • ChuckCh9 Thanks so much...

  • dude i just made 1 just like that

  • bweider1 that's cool....

  • That's what I call SMART. Great video matey!

  • Panaru2010 Thanks so much for the comment......

  • how did you do the handle?

it's a cool knife, i want to make one just like that.

  • The handle is just a paracord wrap which you should find some on youtube that would help....

  • cool

  • Thanks!!!

  • just a question, if anyone knows how he cut it to the shape i would love to know

  • I just did this with a bench grinder..Just use a sharpie to mark the shape you want. While grinding dip the blade in water from time to time so you don't over heat the metal...

  • This may be common knowlege, but could you show how you looped the 550 cord around the handle? Great video BTW!

  • I have a few more VID's to do but at some point I'll get it done...Thanks...

  • AWESOME!!! I look forward to it.

  • Great idea. Check out Milwaukee tool blade called "the Torch" recipro. blade for metal cutting. They are a heavy "hacksaw" type blade. I think I'll use a new one and keep the teeth on the backside.

  • Starting on one tonight, but I think I need a new pad/blade for my grinder. I have a few fire and rescue sawzall blades that are begging for this.

    Great idea brother.

  • WoodenFoot ...Thanks for the comments....

  • Great idea! 5*

  • Thanks so much....

  • i don't have a grinder, can i use a file?

  • I guess you could if you got the time...

  • if you cu food with it you could get lead poisoning if its lead paint be careful! Buy non painted ones

  • Lead or any lead chromates have been ban from paints for a while now...I guess unless it comes from overseas.....Good point....Not sure where my blades were made...Thanks!!!

  • just one example of how cheap a survival kit can be made, A+

  • Thanks for the comment....

  • Pretty ingenius idea. I would like to see a field test review of that knife. See what it will do.

I'm also interested in the paracord wrap? Can you show us how you did it?

  • Thanks so much...I'll try to squeeze in a VID on your request....

  • Not to be rude, and nice blade by the way, but why does all your comments end in "..." ? Very nice blade by the way. Excellent Idea.

    *Lords of Time*

    RIP Kronos..

  • The for the comments and watching...

  • how thick is that blaide

  • 1/8..........

  • I make knives, nothing nice, but working class knives, and thats pretty swift, I did something similar with a steel cutting hacksaw blade, and made a machete....left sawteeth on back for cuting nothces and such...great work.

  • Hey MrCableguy...Thanks for the comment and I did consider the hack saw blades but I had some many reciprocating blades and they were a little more beefy than the hacksaw blades.Take care...

  • The hacksaw blades I am using are the 1/4 inch thick blades for the big metal cutting saws, its a hacksaw, but the blades are 28x3x1/4...M7 tools steel...more work to cut, but I can get them for 10 bucks new, or find them used for free...great work again, and Ill post a video of the machete as soon as get a better camera

  • Nifty idea. Good way to recycle also.

  • Thanks so much....

  • where did u get the bag? its perfect for carrying outdoors stuff and the knife idea is brilliant I think i`ll make one

  • The bag is a Maxpedition FR-1 that you can get from them...Thanks for watching and the comments....

  • This is pretty crafty, wouldnt use it for a main survival blade but if had just had this? you would still be pretty well off. I am going to make a few of these I think alteast one for my first aid pouch and my repelling pouch. Thanks for the idea.

  • Hey thanks so much....and your very welcome...

  • thats kind of cool. a double sided knife- saw.

  • Thanks for the comment and watching....Take care...

  • Good Job!

I have been making those knives for some time now.
