what a woman and what a voice, some singers have a bigger voice than miss ross but none of those singers are this ladies equal, her voice is one in a billion no one ever sounded like miss ross ever, she is awsome.
May Martin Luther King Jr rest in peace. This man simply did what he knew was right, and in doing this opened the eyes of so many people and opened doors for millions of others.
50 years in the business and she is a little bit more brilliant every day. Diana always guarded herself and when she started to release her authentic beautiful self it was magnificent. This is a great singer.
EXCELENTE VIDEO, VOZ, PERFOMACE, AFINAÇÃO DE TUDO E TODOS, NADA MAIS DO QUE A RAINHA DIANA ROSS, QUE NASCEU PARA CANTAR E ALEGRAR O CORAÇAO DE TODO NÓS !!!
Beautiful song, beautiful sentiment, beautiful setting, beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful performance. Yes, I love this - makes the hairs on my arms stand on end!
Diana is timeless. She always said she would not live in the past and that she would focus on the future. This song which is a Negro Standard is sooooooo beautifully redone and Diana does so much justice to it. When I heard it , I welled up with tears and emotion and a smile I am a male.
i only have one thing to say, as this performance has usually rendered me speechless. This is beautiful, just as we all are, in our own unique way. Thumbs up this comment if you agree. I am so very glad we are free today. It's too bad Martin Luther King Jr. didn't get to see his dream realized, as he died a day after he gave his "i've seen over the mountaintop" speech.
Good song for the people who are being Oppressed and Persecuted. Strong shall almost always persecute the weak ,except those who have the Love and Fear for God, They are the only ones ,who shall treat humanely other fellow human beings. Otherwise the Beast is seen manifestly in their behaviour towards other Human Beings.,.
What a BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECE. There is not another woman that sings like Diana. She does not sing like a typical black woman, nor white woman. She sings just so differently; that's why so many cultures like her voice...It's transcendently expressive, beautiful, elegant, and soulful. Her voice has seasoned, but it's that same uniqueness that made the Supremes cross over worldwide and that's what Berry could see.
The boss is and will always be a giant in every aspect of entertainment ! She truly shines like no other with this awesome performance of a song that is all about hope and togetherness.Diana is a class act!
I absolutely loved it! She was gracious and elegant . . . and not to mention inspiring. I know this isn't the original melody but it was still beautiful and above all peaceful. Thx 4 posting.
saintben2008 and hydfawr and enterhisrest - In a time of leadership you three are lost in the dust of all achievers. He, MLK, she, DR and the voice of reason will stifle your false and tiresome rhetoric. He did overcome. She has overcome. You three, I am afraid, are lost - never to be bolstered by social equity and certainly not saved by your disdain of compassion and enduring forgiveness. He believed in love and she sang his message both with grace and dignity, lifting spirits. Your loss.

Go! Lady. It's refreshing to hear a singer that knows how to sing and doesn't scream all the time. What I love about Diana is that her phrasing is always impeccable. She makes you feel the lyrics. 50 years in the business and she's still kicking ass. Bravo!
Perhaps the best Diana's live performance of all times. Diana sings with so much conviction and the musicians, the choir and the overall arrangement are excellent.
Love this. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo. Born in an era when people of color was denied so much. Your voice broke down walls and barriers of hate. You dreamed a dream and overcame many obstacles. Deep in my heart I do believe no body does it better, simply the best, greatest diva of all, cream of the crop. Your voice is like a flute in an orchestra. The young artists of today will never understand the struggles of the civil rights movement. Thank You for making a difference. Happy Birthday.
@rariv1 So very well said. My sentiments exactly. I have followed this lady in awe since I was five years old. Somehow back then, I felt her spirit. It was 1964. I am amazed that I am still mesmerized by this elegant being. I have felt her growth along with my own, and I cherish moments like this one, where she truly shines seemingly without effort.
I had the fortunate opportunity to be in the audience for this wonderful show......it was fun to watch the stadium filling up.....it was a hot evening in Budapest, in more ways than one.
Beautiful! She glides effortlessly and expertly from the most intimate lullaby at the beginning to a passionate anthem and then back to a lullaby, here and there inserting bits of a bluesy lag behind the beat. And the way she sort of nestles in and pauses as she raises her finger at the end is so powerful and dramatic. It's a rare type of vocal style and, sadly, not one much valued by the "America's Idol" crowd.
Thank you Diana. Please get this rendition marketed. Many people had no idea that you'd perform this piece and performed it so beautifully well! I'd love for you to make a come in the vocal scence. This is the perfect market idea for you "Songs of Hope that Inspire People of All Nations" Please give it consideration.
I also have goosebumps and tears in my eyes, when I see this magnificent performance, Yes, Billboard magazine was right proclaiming Diana Ross as THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER OF THE 20TH CENTURY.
Thank you Diana for great concerts and great music you gave us for decades.
I thought for sure she would sing at one of Obama inauguration events. This song would have been good but IF WE HOLD ON TOGETHER would have made it for me.
True talent & star power stands the test of time and this woman has managed to stay relevent in every decade since the early 60's.....very few (if any at all!) are capable of such a feat. this video proves why.
Still one of the loveliest voices in the biz. Maybe not one of the most powerful, but so wonderful to listen to for sincerity and quality. Diana Ross gives fantastic performances.
Diana Ross is one of this country's natural treasures. She has been overlooked, disrespected despite being one of the most incredible examples of King's dream. She embodies the contradictions Black people people face aspiring to acquire the American Dream. No one in America sings like this.
Yes It was an anthom used by DR. KING, Yet it is not his lyric's. The race war is won. This belongs to so many oppressed, white, black red, yellow, gay, strait, rich poor. Not a song for one race and one color. Dr. king was a very smart man to adhere to this song.
Agreed. There's still race wars in other parts of the world. With Obama, it's over for The United States Of America. There's still Sri Lanka with the Tamils, LTTE (Liberation Tamil Tigers Eelam), and the Sinhalese. Any some parts of Africa where slavery still continues. This race war will be won and ended. It is essential to our survival that this racial war is ended as soon as possible. WE SHALL OVERCOME this war that has been raging for such a long time.
I think Miss Ross. in her loving nature, meant for all those who feel oppressed in the 21st Century to take this song to heart. Especially Gays and Lesbians.
We are truly overcoming age old prejudices and barriers by the special grace of JESUS CHRIST our Lord, GOD and Messiah! See what HE has done through Brother Barack Obama's massive election victory. Praise the Lord JESUS CHRIST forever, Amen! GOD bless you, Sister Diana Ross, Amen!!! Francis Ibe MOGU, Ph.D., Ukpe Village, Nkum Community, OGOJA - NIGERIA.
Catalunya, in Europe, under the power of spanish government is hardly pushed for her culture to disappear. This summer we use "we shall overcome" in order to let all tourists her what is our reality.
We are like all other tribes and people on earth, we deserve respect and freedom.
We used to sing this song at church in our chilhood, and we still remind of itand wanna believe WE SHALL OVERCOME. Thanks.
I shared this with all my friends, family, and former students. There has never been a more beautiful expression of a more beautiful sentiment. The song itself is the incarnation of truth, and Diana is the incarnation of beauty. As Keats said, "Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all / Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know." Thanks for this amazing gift, Niles!
