Radiohead could make a number pop song or be like muse (eh....) if they wanted to, but they choose to stick to their roots and don't give in to the record company
i always thought that it's the internet that causes people to want to obtain their music via the internet. plenty of musicians use the internet as their medium for delivery... so, the internet it the cause of it all. bye-bye TV, bye-bye radio... hello W W W.
His argument is a bit flawed though... People have access to buy all/any of the music they wish--on the internet. I agree that the record companies are fucked up and just looking to make money. But hey, that's the essence of capitalism; it exploits the bad in human nature.
I haven't bought a single radiohead album, and they're one of my favorite bands. The real reason people don't buy albums anymore is 1) because they don't have the money, and/or 2) they don't want to spend all it all on music
@ericmsandoval Yeah, your probably right. Though I'm not exactly sure what I'd be "helping out." I'd probably by the albums of those lesser known bands I love before Radiohead, to be honest; I think I'd be helping them out more. I damn sure can't afford to buy all the music I like, and I don't want to do without it...
@ericmsandoval: That's kind of hard to think about ethically when the band released "In Rainbows" for whatever price people were willing to pay. Ya' dig? XD
"I think the reason people circulate music so much on the net is that they can't get access to it any other way, because the radio is bullshit." HAHAHA. I love how straight forward Thom is.
At least he agrees with my opinion on the whole Record Industry thing. Unlike in the past, you had more than a few acts that were known and actually played well.
Now, it's either you have a hit which the majority hates and the others who love it constantly play it on the radio, making others go mad or you actually have an amazing band like Radiohead though from the past has a new message for the future of music artists:
I will so pay for your cds I will donate to thom he is awsome ... donate ppl ! he might not need money but u pay for everything else and he is giving it for free.... :) so donate
@Meazum I don't like it when people slag of creep, it's a good song (READ THE REST OF THE COMMENT BEFORE YOU KILL ME!) I just think it's nowhere near as good as most of their other stuff, it's overplayed and it's a shame that it's the only song non-fans think of when they think of radiohead.
@hemorrhoidprime - was thinking exactly the same thing, and was about to check to see if any other comments hit on this point, and low and behold, the first one down :D
The way the industry has changed has made it difficult for new bands to break in. Could you imagine Nine Inch Nails, Bjork or the lads here breaking in these days??
The Saul Williams project and Radiohead's new release is an interesting option. I believe these "free downloads" will pay for themselves because people will choose to support the artist.
After all Britney Spears is waiting in the wings to rape the world if the true artists starve
It's not capitalism that is the problem with radio. It's the fact that it's an outdated medium for entertainment. It's dying because it can't compete with the other musical options out there. I hope it dies too, but it's not the fault of free exchange, it's an issue of advancement. Like the typewriter, bye bye.
Thom is spot on. I cant even remember the last tym i listened to the radio? The only one i consider listening to is radio 2. Comercial music is fuckin awfull!
As a kid he had a paralysed left eye which was operated on a few times and apparently the last surgery he had was botched and now his eyelid is drooped and he's mostly blind in that eye.
Thom and Jonny and the rest of Radiohead seem to be one of the few talented and sane bands that do well nowadays.
Radiohead son la puta caña!! I really hope these guys r coming to Spain soon for the next FIB'07!! does anybody knows if they've confirmed? In any web appears but it's still speculating..Spanish people wellcome every u to come to Spain for the FIB. Hasta pronto!!
