This rendition almost always stands the hair up on my body, irregardless of the number of repeat opportunities. I think the tonal vibrations and harmonies bring on an adrenal rush. I once observed a large blister on my hand heal itself in seconds, after having a goose flesh incident. Sumi Jo is blessed!!!!

I was already a fan of works such as those from Dead Can Dance and Wojciech Kilar's score for Dracula before hearing this piece. However, this is really what drove me in the direction. Eerie, yet ethereal at the same time. There isn't much like this out there. Brilliant!

Her Coloratura never forced or pushed her ability to find the delicate sweetness of this haunting melody and never force the vibrato and volume brings rich depth and yet a lightness that makes this piece Amazing!
Do not want to insult anyone, but m-lle Ewa's voice is beautifully processed and polished by soundproducers, Sumi's is not. Ewa lacks breath, Sumi sings freely.
I like the picture...its very dramatic...and the song is superb. She also supplied the vocals for some songs from Bram Stoker's Dracula soundtrack, also by Wojciech Kilar.....another FANTASTIC soundtrack. I would strongly suggest you check it out if you liked the Ninth Gate soundtrack, and you know whats good for you! :)
LIke many I share the view that the photograph is sadly not a good one. But the music reminds me of so many things that are so easily forgotten in this mad, lost world! If this music makes you think of floating angels - then you are truly fortunate! And gifted to be alive!

@ishbalangirl: Yes, you're right. The cast acting great and the music is so beautiful. I saw this movie in the theater when it came out and that is so much nicer then at home. Still, so now and than on cold winter nights I load de DVD into my player. Then I Iay down on the couch, cover myself with a blanket and watch the movie in one time. Finally, when gorgeous Sumi Jo welcomes Dean Corso with her wonderful voice and this great composition I wish I had walked through the Nihth Gate.

Perhaps it is the beauty of the singer and the song that lifts the spirit and creates a plane that one can exist. Or it is a feeling that there is no words that give direction or meaning. Perhaps the purity of the sound invokes a release of emotions that would otherwise stay deep within ones psyche. A release that gives an exultant peace to a heart that may be troubled. To take it to a place of acceptance for the listener.

Absolut superb. Sunt o fana inraita a lui Sumi de ceva vreme si sa descopar inregistrarea asta a fost o supriza extrem de placuta pentru mine. Superb, o spun din nou. Vocea ei in sine e o poveste. Absolut inaltator.

Absolutely beautiful. Though I liked the movie, this is actually the highlight of "The Ninth Gate" for me.

I saw the Ninth Gate over and over again and it still doesn't bother me. The movie just catches me in everything. What a wonderful voice of Sumi Jo and the compositions from Wojciech Kilar are just beautiful. Roman Polanski proves again that he allways knows so very well to choose the right talents for all his movies in everything that matters to the movie. I cannot wait to walk through the Ninth Gate if this beautiful and style full angel Sumi Jo is waiting there....

@ishbalangirl: Yes, you're right. The cast acting great and the music is so beautiful. I saw this movie in the theater when it came out and that is so much nicer then at home. Still, so now and than on cold winter nights I load de DVD into my player. Then I Iay down on the couch, cover myself with a blanket and watch the movie in one time. Finally, when gorgeous Sumi Jo welcomes Dean Corso with her wonderful voice and this great composition I wish I had walked through the Nihth Gate.

I sit here and listen to this piece and wonder why I always return.
Perhaps it is the beauty of the singer and the song that lifts the spirit and creates a plane that one can exist. Or it is a feeling that there is no words that give direction or meaning. Perhaps the purity of the sound invokes a release of emotions that would otherwise stay deep within ones psyche. A release that gives an exultant peace to a heart that may be troubled. To take it to a place of acceptance for the listener.

I've listened to a lot of versions and this one is just perfect. It's the one I heard on the "Montecristo" telenovella and I absolutly love it. Can listen to it all day!
