I wish you had the video of the contestants that did the competition at this show. I was the one that did this song for the contest and lost by 1 decibal point. But they took my video offline and never got me a copy of it. If anyone knows how to get it, I would appreciate letting me know! Thanks! And thanks for posting this!
Ballet to cover it, but Tate pulled it off nice enough.I haven't listened to anything new from queensryche in 20 years. Didn't know rates voice got bad? I used to get goosebumps listening to him wail on "take hold of the flame"...that song showed off his range... He used to be able to hit those dio notes....
Ooh, just found this, clicking here, clicking there. Wow, with two guitarists the sound doesn't wain as Iommi overlays tracks. The guitar riff retained it's non live original meatyness.
Am intrigued how Heaven and Hell would sound - especially the final bit.
Just an old Sabbath fan who used to live near the Hammersmith Odeon (now Apollo) and missing a few hearing cells ... :-)
What I like the most on this song is the solo, however I´m really glad that Geoff is hitting high notes again, a few years ago his voice was wrecked but now is getting in shape again, that operatic twist Dio like it´s really cool
I love the song and Queensryche. It is however sad to watch Geoff really have to work at some notes that aren't even that high when his voice used to be so unlimited.
@musicofdano Tate is heavily trained, but not in classical music. In rock/metal, as far as I know. There are parallels, but in some respects it can be the opposite, too... Actually I hear more classical music in DIOs singing (he also stated, because of his italien heritage, classical singing as early influence). Bottom Line they 're both about as good as it gets over metal riffs...
@musicofdano yeah except dio never lost his voice. I think dio had way better technique. Just because your classically trained doesn't mean your voice will survive rock or metal. Two completely different techniques.
WOW! Mine, too. As well as Yeah! by Def Leppard. It's awesome that Tate had the balls, voice, and range to tackle the almighty Mercury. Their version of Innuendo kicks ass! Also cool that QR covered opera, rock opera, the Police, Peter Gabriel, U2, Buffalo Springfield, CSN&Y, and the O'Jays. Not to mention Pink Floyd. Just wish they would've picked another O'Jays song, as For the Love of $ was also covered by the Bullet Boys

Interesting is Queensryche a metal band once again?????

This shows what a god Dio was.
Geoff Tate is an awesome singer with great range, but he's not
able to hit Dio's high notes here.
dmacnic 1 year ago 2
@dmacnic - are you kidding? Dio hasn't hit the high notes of Neon Knights since 1981. Tate does it with ease here (and alot more recent than 1981)

Yeah, thats the way to spread the metal. Don't play it or listen to anybody else play it. Crowd seemed to like it

Tate is more of a classically trained singer. Dio is more raw-both are great singers. And both bands rock and kick ass!!!!

well said 2 totally different styles but both kick ass

Band sounds good. Solo very nice! Tate sounds like he's doing Karate Yaw Yaw Hiya Yaw.
Doesn't fit at all.
Leave the Sabbath (Dio era) to the man DIO himself! Cool they chose such a classic song, but the voice is just not right here.
