Thought it was i real gun for a minute...... maybe a 25. ACP given that there was no re coil or muzzle clime, but it really wouldnt be hard to make a functioning one, only problem would be that it would be incredibly innacurate, Tauras just released a model of the Colt Revolving Rifle, there calling it the Circut Judge, you could easily make a gunblade out of it, its only 250$ (if you know anything about guns you know thatsa good price)
a more practicle aproach would be to take a ninja-to, a straightened katana in other words, a repeating sniper rifle made for stealth work in heavy combat area's, like what the US maurine corps uses in afghanistan. the long barrel of a sniper rifle and the straight blade of a ninja-to would "mesh" well. training would be neccessary, some special modifications will probably be needed.

@Azmas875 gunblade common in old times, usually as bayonet. many pistol/blade combo's too. shame they never make masterful version. gunblade=good idea, but no one stay with it. shameful. france had apache pistol, blade, iron knuckles, and pistol in one. not work so well, but was gangster weapon, so never made all that well. sad, was inspired idea.
They didn't make a good pistol gunblade because it's a dumb idea. The whole idea of pistols is having a light and compact weapon. If you're going to lose the size advantage, you may as well make it a rifle, since it's more accurate. What's more, the blade near the grip won't get as much momentum in a swing as the very tip, so you may as well only have a short blade at the end. All of a sudden, we're back to rifles and bayonettes, which were very efficient.
@PrometheusWithLight yes, bayonet very effective & efficient. still used throughout world, especially in china. gunblade idea own idea, not pistol idea. pistole one thing, pistoleblade another. any idea can be good if worked well enough. not enough thought put into gunblade design. if serious effort made, masterful gunblade can be made. like how stark make suit no one else can make, and when try, only make dumb as hell suit. need genius for gunblade design. master swordsmith+master gunsmith=good
Really, what you're looking for isn't something effective then. You want a work of art; a pretty gunblade. If you're looking for practicality, the rifle and bayonet do the same thing as the gunblade, but better, even if it's made by master craftsmen.
I mean, yes, pistol blade probably bad, but *COULD* be good, if well made. limited, yes, but good all the same. and yes, prefer rifle. as I say above, repeating sniper rifle with light, sharp blade, such as ninja-to, attached to barrel, and properly modefied, COULD be both practical AND artfull. special training would be a given, of course. take bayonet idea, expand upon blade aspect, but not lessen gun aspect. balance both, maximize effectiveness.
If you make the blade bigger, the weapon gets heavier, which makes both blade and gun less effective. There's already plenty of training programs for bayonet fighting, just find a combatives manual.
@Rougamaru Tauras just released the Circut Judge, doesnt seem like it wouldnt be hard to make into a gun blade, if by practical you mean "Hey dude i just bought some ballistic gel bodys on ebay" "Sweeeett.." then im down for that all the way, but i honestly dont think you could make a gunblade replica that could be practical in combat.
If you look closly, the original FF8 gunblade didn't actually fire. The barrel is actually inside of the blade, and the shell explodes there increasing the damage done by the actual sword, not by firing things.
I could make one of these, that fires real bullets instead of the bottle rocket that you had shoved in there, also, I could actually get mine to cut things, instead of bounce off of a tiny stick
@Monsterwow24 I would need to get the steel, and to modify a gun to be forge welded into a blade, the barrel would be a pain in the ass, and the weight would be insane, but its well within my abilities

You guys do know that squalls gunblade isn't an actual "gun" right? Its a vibroblade. When the trigger is pulled it releases an extreme shock wave through the blade that deals extra damage...doesn't fire at all
Fully Functional my ass. The Gunblade does NOT fire any kind of projectile. It's a shockwave that gets sent through the blade to allow it to cut better.
Idk I'm not so sure man, like I've seen Squall (in actual gameplay) shoot his gun just like at an anemy when I controlled him (obivously at long range, without using the blade simultaniously) in serveral ocasions. Not to mention obviously that the gunblade used in FF XIII (which is suposed to be based upon Squall's) is used as a firearm as much as a blade in the game (look up the gameplay trailers). One thing is for sure though, and in this I completely agree with you: FULLY FUNCTIONAL MY ASS.

really cool gunblade. How much does something like this cost. Also next when trying to cut a stick or such come at in more of an angle, when you hit from the side like that you dull the blade more.
oh yeah no doubt if he swung hard enough to. You get a little bit more force though when you swing at a more down motion and if you angle it more it has a more fluid motion, but yeah no doubt the blade would do damage, I'd want this one if there was a zombie apocalypse. either this sword or sephiroth's sword my friend has a life size replica of it, its freaking awesome.

Mmkay review we shall,gunblades in not JUST USA history,looked nothing like this,they were guns with swords attached.
The Gunblade in this vid is not the same as the gunblade in FF8,it's thinner,the blade weaker and barrel isnt drilled all the way down the top of the blade,if you were using an FF8 version,good luck lifting that thing let alone aiming accurately.
This version,would be useless as a sword,you could get half tang at most due to the gun mechanics in the hilt.
Furthermore I would like to add,the word fictional means it isn't real,how could you shoot someone with something that isn't real (in comment to your scenario above about shooting me if I had a katana).
Chances are unless you have arms like a bodybuilder,you'll not do much in ways of aiming unless you wanna cut one hand open.

you compare weapons when your not looking at experience again...the wielder of a weapon should be able to wield it. the fact that this blade is thin doesnt mean that some guy cant hold a real one...do you have stats on the the real one? no so you cant really judge. Im just sayin you would get laughed at but then shoot your opponent. I dunno this weapon if used correctly would destroy many opponents. plus the sword is technically attached to the gun making it massive tang ie. screws and handguard
Ok with this exact sword in the video,i've seen it,I nearly bought one,it's pretty much a blade attached to a small pistol,the tang is greater on this blade because theres no gun mechanics inside,cutting a hole in the middle of a blade like Squalls will just make it weak,you dont need stats,just look at Squalls gunblade,thats like saying it'd be possible to wield a real scaled size buster sword.
Think of the mechanics it would take ot make a RL gunblade,it wouldnt survive combat.
I said go to a kendo tourny with a gunblade,and no they wouldnt have you arrested,genuine Katana owners have a martial arts license to have them,they can carry them in tournaments,just not in public areas like the street.

Squall's gunblade didn't shoot bullets.
The barrel ended inside the base of the blade. It fired a concussive round that caused a vibration along the edge of the blade.
That replica erroneously put a barrel along the top of the blade. It does not act as a firearm.

@Azmas875 gunblade common in old times, usually as bayonet. many pistol/blade combo's too. shame they never make masterful version. gunblade=good idea, but no one stay with it. shameful. france had apache pistol, blade, iron knuckles, and pistol in one. not work so well, but was gangster weapon, so never made all that well. sad, was inspired idea.

They didn't make a good pistol gunblade because it's a dumb idea. The whole idea of pistols is having a light and compact weapon. If you're going to lose the size advantage, you may as well make it a rifle, since it's more accurate. What's more, the blade near the grip won't get as much momentum in a swing as the very tip, so you may as well only have a short blade at the end. All of a sudden, we're back to rifles and bayonettes, which were very efficient.

Really, what you're looking for isn't something effective then. You want a work of art; a pretty gunblade. If you're looking for practicality, the rifle and bayonet do the same thing as the gunblade, but better, even if it's made by master craftsmen.

I mean, yes, pistol blade probably bad, but *COULD* be good, if well made. limited, yes, but good all the same. and yes, prefer rifle. as I say above, repeating sniper rifle with light, sharp blade, such as ninja-to, attached to barrel, and properly modefied, COULD be both practical AND artfull. special training would be a given, of course. take bayonet idea, expand upon blade aspect, but not lessen gun aspect. balance both, maximize effectiveness.

If you make the blade bigger, the weapon gets heavier, which makes both blade and gun less effective. There's already plenty of training programs for bayonet fighting, just find a combatives manual.

If you look closly, the original FF8 gunblade didn't actually fire. The barrel is actually inside of the blade, and the shell explodes there increasing the damage done by the actual sword, not by firing things.

You guys do know that squalls gunblade isn't an actual "gun" right? Its a vibroblade. When the trigger is pulled it releases an extreme shock wave through the blade that deals extra damage...doesn't fire at all

Fully Functional my ass. The Gunblade does NOT fire any kind of projectile. It's a shockwave that gets sent through the blade to allow it to cut better.

Idk I'm not so sure man, like I've seen Squall (in actual gameplay) shoot his gun just like at an anemy when I controlled him (obivously at long range, without using the blade simultaniously) in serveral ocasions. Not to mention obviously that the gunblade used in FF XIII (which is suposed to be based upon Squall's) is used as a firearm as much as a blade in the game (look up the gameplay trailers). One thing is for sure though, and in this I completely agree with you: FULLY FUNCTIONAL MY ASS.

You get a little bit more force though when you swing at a more down motion and if you angle it more it has a more fluid motion, but yeah no doubt the blade would do damage, I'd want this one if there was a zombie apocalypse. either this sword or sephiroth's sword my friend has a life size replica of it, its freaking awesome.

Mmkay review we shall,gunblades in not JUST USA history,looked nothing like this,they were guns with swords attached.
The Gunblade in this vid is not the same as the gunblade in FF8,it's thinner,the blade weaker and barrel isnt drilled all the way down the top of the blade,if you were using an FF8 version,good luck lifting that thing let alone aiming accurately.
This version,would be useless as a sword,you could get half tang at most due to the gun mechanics in the hilt.

Chances are unless you have arms like a bodybuilder,you'll not do much in ways of aiming unless you wanna cut one hand open.
If it IS a gunblade you could life with one arm,it's going to be a terrible melee weapon.
Take a gunblade to a kendo tourny,you'd be laughed out of the arena.

There's a lot of silliness being posted about a gunblade vs a katana.
A gunblade is a FICTIONAL weapon,it isn't real and would be a hiderance ot carry in to battle.
The Katana was developed over centuries of experience for killing.
I love FF8,and I love Gunblades,but the blade on this is thin,a gunblade like Squalls would weight a huge amount.
Also a Katana is not made for chopping trees or sword on sword,its made for cutting flesh,in one single stroke.
They are two VERY different swords!

It would depend entirely on the person you were fighting,if it was an old enemy like a viking berzerker,fear really wouldnt come in to it lol,but if it was a modern day foe like mr everyday joe on the street,yes it probably would freak them out,the fact im trying to make is this is not the same as Squalls gunblade,it's too small and too thin,Squalls gunblade would be a hinderance to take in to a fight,its too heavy and very clumsy.

you compare weapons when your not looking at experience again...the wielder of a weapon should be able to wield it. the fact that this blade is thin doesnt mean that some guy cant hold a real one...do you have stats on the the real one? no so you cant really judge. Im just sayin you would get laughed at but then shoot your opponent. I dunno this weapon if used correctly would destroy many opponents. plus the sword is technically attached to the gun making it massive tang ie. screws and handguard

Ok with this exact sword in the video,i've seen it,I nearly bought one,it's pretty much a blade attached to a small pistol,the tang is greater on this blade because theres no gun mechanics inside,cutting a hole in the middle of a blade like Squalls will just make it weak,you dont need stats,just look at Squalls gunblade,thats like saying it'd be possible to wield a real scaled size buster sword.
Think of the mechanics it would take ot make a RL gunblade,it wouldnt survive combat.

see this is where you are totally wrong...squalls blade does NOT have a hole in it. learn FF8 a little better. the sword in the game is an actual sword which has two points of connection instead of 1 like the katana making it very stable. the only mechanics in the gun is the trigger to hammer. not to the blade. a controlled explosion just like the m16 sends a vibration through the blade to heat up and cut easier. plus kendo is def not for actual katanas. there are other torneys for that.

Ok for the explosion to go up the blade,there is a hole drilled down the spine of Squalls gunblade,secondly you've just backed my argument up,your holding a sword that would weight a ton if it was steel,to a gun barrel,with two points of connection,technically just one,the second top one is fastened in place,it's like a break barrel.
So,if it's ammo is only for a controlled explosion to heat up the blade,it doesn't actually fire bullets then.

For a shot to send a heatwave through a blade like Squalls it would need to be able to travel up the spine of the blade,lumps of metal dont just heat up in an instant.

trust me I have been all ove and if you dont have anything anime and you have a blade for no reason you look like a douche. there are real gunblades buster blades and other swords allowed ususaaly for a show but allowed to mingle with other otakus. must be registered and checked in before entering.

Also real Katana can be used in kendo but only at certain times,for demonstration and cutting,they don;t train you to fight with a wooden sword and nothing BUT.
Youa re actually expected to perform the cuts you've been taught,not just let the skills lay dromant forever.

WHY in the blue hell would I bring a real katana to an anime convention?,those guys use nothing but foam and rubber swords unless it's for a masquerade,and trust me people dont get pissed if they see real japanese steel at those cons.

Ya your right, I also apologise for my actions. I was also rude and obnoxious. I would love to see the Videos of the nihonto and it cutting through cool stuff. I wanna post my L85A1 and my 9mm but I really want a gunblade compared to the busterblade and the brotherhood sword. love you too x x x
