So you got a junk computer with a bad installation. Format the hard drive, reinstall Windows and then install Photoshop. Guaranteed it will run a lot smoother than this. How many million graphic designers and photographers use Photoshop every day never have a problem? Never thought to stop and think maybe it's something you did wrong and not the program.
@kevinacrider I was rehearsing what I was going to do in the video. I had repeated exactly the same thing a few times before. This was mean't to be the actual take only it failed.
I used to get TERRIBLE lag with CS2 on a quad core PC with 4GB RAM and other top-notch specs. I'm moving to Mac, hoping it will be better. So far, so good with other programs. (Adobe hasn't shipped Photoshop yet, and it's been two months... but that's another story...)
OpenGL will slow PS down if you do not have a good graphics card. Do not enable OpenGL for image drawing unless you have an amazing graphics card as that will slow everything down even further.
Chrisy is right !! unless you have the cream of the crop graphics card STICK WITH CS3 !!!
I tried CS4 for a week and it is gonna need a shit ton of patches !!! very disappointing due to the fact you need the power now for this bloated software.
CS3 is fast on Pc, plus its in rosetta for intel so you will be fine until we see CS5
Hi Chrisy, Thank you for taking the time to tell me...THAT is what makes the art community so great !! It takes us to tell company's what is going on and to correct it.
I am very happy with CS3 and new I would wait 6-8 months for patches to correct stuff, then re consider :) have a super weekend
Woah, I can't believe I have ignored this comment completely. My email didn't tell me about it :)
I got a new computer for Christmas, its brilliant with CS4. No lag or anything. I can use all the features really fast.
Isn't Photoshop 5.5 very old? It doesn't have any of the new features that I need (I am starting to work in 3D with 3D Studio Max and Maya and I use Photoshop to texture).
hey bd CS2 was designed for the G series processors for mac...CS3 is in rosetta for intel cause mac switched to intel. So CS3 will scream on a quad core :)
i get this error during start up i run vista 32 8600 gforce card the runtime error visual c++ you know ,but i talked to hp on this and they said it could be a virus but i had no virus so they said to recover the hard drive with the recovery drive this is a problem with no solution wait about 5 months for a fix my uncle works at adobe as a software engineer i told him and there working on it but it is not their biggest concern to them
Its definitely not a virus. C++ is the programming language used to make Photoshop. A C++ Runtime error is glitch/flaw in the program. Fortunately, I only ever had the error once.
C++ can be used for a lot of things my friend. But it is not the only language that creates viruses and it is not the only language that you can use to hack games.
I think you'll find that C++ is for programs and in this case, it is Photoshop that encountered the problem.
I had a few initial lag issues but putting up the image cache to 8 after a clean vista install ( always a good idea before a major software upgrade to avoid conflicts ) fixed it and it's around 40% faster than cs3.
Not accusing anyone, but, downloading cracked torrents or trial patches is simply asking for trouble....do you really KNOW what you're installing?
This was still in trial version when it happened. Ever since I bought the full Photoshop I have had no problems whatsoever (it is much better on a new PC, however the old PC never encountered this problem again either).
I agree, torrents are theft and you shouldn't use them (if you were selling a product you made you wouldn't want anyone to get it for free!). But Adobe charging that price, theft aswell :)
I'm using an 8600 GT graphics card and I'm lagging... I did get a warning that I should update my graphics card from the manufacture, may that be the problem?
No it shouldn't. A lot of errors can occur with the new CS. Check out the Adobe website, it offers all the help you need that I can not give you in 500 characters.
BTW: Is it lag like this? Did you get an error message like mine?
this runs great on mine quad core 2.5 with 6 gigs of ram and 1 gb 9800gt graphix card. i spend a total of 1200 on this pc it plays the latest games including the GTA4 at least on 80% of full potential and graphic detail of the game.
this guy that posted this video IS A MORON because ether he dont know how to crack SC4 and get it free or doesnt know how to set it up. ITS TIME FOR AN UPGRADE MOTHER FUCKER!!!!
THIS IS 2008 NOT 2003, GET A BETTER PC AND LEARN TO CRACK BETTER.
Oh why don't I just go and blow 1200 pounds for your viewing pleasure. When I filmed this it was in trial mode, so I couldn't have mucked it up cracking it. Error occurred once and since it went out of the trial, no errors occurred.
And BTW, its a programming error so learn what your talking about before you make a fool of yourself. Buying a £1200 PC would be the dumbest way of solving this.
lol...I agree. It is amazingly fast to start but as in this video, spontaneous errors are a new thing which let the product down.
It costs $1000 to buy and $350 to upgrade. In my other video, "Adobe Photoshop CS4: 3D Capabilities", you will see how Adobe converted me and 1000s of other people who go "woah" at rotating in 3D space ;)
The issues CS4 has are not directly related to the amount of ram or speed of your processor. There are some errors in the way it displays with some video cards that causes lag and other errors. People with high end Macs and PCs running 64 bit OS's with over 6 gig of ram and Nvidia Quadro cards have experienced unworkable lag.
I thought that it wasn't anything to do with how good your specs are. I get the same/similar error on my programs if there is an incompatability with the PC. Thanks for confirming that.
512mb...it was just a one off though. Every other time the 3D object just pops up.
It was most likely a coding error that occurred when trying to read the 3D object. It wouldn't matter how much RAM you had Photoshop would still have made an error.
I have 2 GB with Vista. And also you need a good graphics card and at least 2.0 GHz processor. Mine runs very smooth. Photoshop CS4 use Graphics Card Acceleration btw.
it aggravtes me not ot Yay Typo

i have this same damn problem gosh ot aggravates me
cookie1749 6 months ago
I had the same problem with CS5 Encore/After Effects/PremierePro
I had to uninstall these select programs and re-install. The error had disappeared after that.
Although my runtime error appeared at the program start. My dynamic link manager also was effected. Now it all works!

Why not move to PS 5.5? ;) This goes for chrisbwell also... I think it expects Vista...
XP+good old apps = responsive user experience. You could also use ArtRage, GIMP with PS keybinds on Linux... ;)

512mb? Holy s*=t man you need more! I have 4gb and that runs out very quickly with CS4...
digidave 3 years ago
what he said... <---- really you need a lot more memory, your OS takes that as a minimum to run...
EASTSIDEDELI 3 years ago
Windows XP can run on 96 megabytes.
It was a programming error as you can see from the video. On my computer Photoshop would be using 200k to complete the operations.
digidave, you can set how much RAM Photoshop uses in:
Photoshop - Preferences - Performance (Mac OS)
Edit- Preferences - Performance (Windows)
Photoshop CS4 sucks if it really takes 4GB to never have an odd error like this.

I know that Photoshop uses graphics card acceleration. I learnt that when it said it only makes people with expensive and fast computers go faster.
I have a 2.8 GHZ processor and I have 512mb ram which is fine according to the Adobe website.
