Santa Monica.. err.. once, I pulled into a beach parking lot, where it was clear that you had to pay at the box then leave your receipt in your window.. As I pulled in and began looking for an available space, I noticed a cop writing tickets.. she seemed very "eager".. anyway, found a spot and parked. Walked up to the box, bought my ticket 12:04 and walked back to my car and she was walking away from my car. On the windshield, a ticket for 60 bucks! Time 12:06.. I contested but LOST!! Mafia!
I'm speechless,I cant believe what I just found out. Thousands of car accident victims were left behind by the massive government bailouts of GM and Chrysler. The $50 billion (our tax money) rescue of GM and the restructuring of Chrysler allowed them to "wash away legal responsibility for car-accident victims who had won damages or had pending lawsuits," OMG just found out,NO VOLT FOR ME.
According to the report the news tram was given many opportunities to fix the issue. The actual problem was not with the officers, but with the idea that people are above the law. KTLA seems to believe that they are above the law. When this begins to occur, corruption settles and society unravels.
This is just another example of the mindless mechanisms in place in most places of our great country. It's shit like this that cripples us as a nation from becoming more than we are.
This so-called "traffic agent" knows good and well they are filming a segment here and could (and should) simply ask a couple questions as to what's going on here. They blew him off. So he called the city parking enforcement, who handles the city owned lot at the Santa Monica pier. They were asked to pay for being there THREE TIMES and rudely blew the guy off. They should have payed. Cameras dont get you a free pass. But the meter maid is a cunt anyways.

I have parked in parking garages in many places like everyone else and have never ever paid before parking. I had my rear bumper coated with Line-X when they did my truck bed, well, just a very very small amount got on the bottom of the license plate, just to cover maybe 3/10 of an inch on the border of the plate. Not covering any letters, stickers, or identification.
When parked downtown, was issued a ticket because the plate was "tampered with, and no longer legal" ... $125 ticket

@VoodooPolitico I read the official statement. And yes, it wasn't the roof of a parking structure like I'd originally assumed. From what I know now, which isn't the full story, I give the police the edge in the "correct" department. But in general, LA police see the civilian populace as a source of revenue. If you get into an accident, they won't even come for most of them, that's official policy, and I don't think it's a coincidence that they can't make time because it's not a money maker.

I don't understand the police press release. When you come into the parking structure, you get a ticket, you don't pay until YOU LEAVE, and the amount depends on how long you stay. Police insisting they didn't pay while they were still INSIDE the structure doesn't make any sense.
@ChaunceyDos I think this is a beach parking lot, so it works a bit different from a (mall or shopping center) structure, you pay for a ticket first and make sure to leave your day permit in a visible spot inside of your car. It always works this way in beach parking lots.
@ChaunceyDos- Santa Monica is ridiculous. They know that people want to go to the beach so they basically set up metered parking lots so that they can patrol them and give out more tickets. At this place you probably are required to put a receipt in the dash or a sticker on the car but you can assume that the news crew didn't want to do that as they were trying to make the cars look nice.

Usually with those sorts of parking lots, you have to pay before you even enter. So it can probably be assumed that since she is parked there, and says she has receipts, that she did pay. I think people have more of an issue with the timing than anything. Just as she is trying to do her job, so is the news crew. That live shot would maybe have lasted another 2 minutes.

@VoodooPolitico I read the official statement. And yes, it wasn't the roof of a parking structure like I'd originally assumed. From what I know now, which isn't the full story, I give the police the edge in the "correct" department. But in general, LA police see the civilian populace as a source of revenue. If you get into an accident, they won't even come for most of them, that's official policy, and I don't think it's a coincidence that they can't make time because it's not a money maker.

"Catching criminals?" A lot of police work seems to be about generating revenue and it's just in LA. Add to that private corporations getting a percentage of revenue from red light cams. I don't understand the police press release. When you come into the parking structure, you get a ticket, you don't pay until YOU LEAVE, and the amount depends on how long you stay. Police insisting they didn't pay while they were still INSIDE the structure doesn't make any sense.

@ChaunceyDos I think this is a beach parking lot, so it works a bit different from a (mall or shopping center) structure, you pay for a ticket first and make sure to leave your day permit in a visible spot inside of your car. It always works this way in beach parking lots.

@ChaunceyDos- Santa Monica is ridiculous. They know that people want to go to the beach so they basically set up metered parking lots so that they can patrol them and give out more tickets. At this place you probably are required to put a receipt in the dash or a sticker on the car but you can assume that the news crew didn't want to do that as they were trying to make the cars look nice.

I havent been there that early in the AM in years yet its only 8 blocks away from me. I think they close the booth late at night. They may have rolled in before the booth opened.

I am sure the TV station was trying to hurry and get things ready for the LIVE feed. This report shows even how ridiculous this whole situation is. As if this could't be handled right afterwards-- which it eventually was. The garage could have collected the money before letting them leave. But w/the Officer walking in the shot like that -- dumb ass move. In general it got more advertising for the cars and the station, and put a poor light on Santa Monica Police/Traffic Officers. @DanielRI02 It's morning news so there are a lot of puff pieces. If the lady says she paid, then I would tend to believe her. Usually with those sorts of parking lots, you have to pay before you even enter. So it can probably be assumed that since she is parked there, and says she has receipts, that she did pay. I think people have more of an issue with the timing than anything. Just as she is trying to do her job, so is the news crew. That live shot would maybe have lasted another 2 minutes.

This particular parking enforcement officer was trying to make a point and intentionally ruining the tv shoot, which highlights Santa Monica as a summer destination by the way. In the end, the parking enforcement officer could have waited behind the camera while writing the tickets, but chose to impose herself.

The camera guy could have shot from a different angle and no one would have noticed the woman.
