This video has a great deal of symbolism in it which I always really love to see, especially when it pertains to something personal to the artist, as I'd imagine is the subject of this video. Obviously the colors named in the song are those of the German flag, recited in order from the middle to the bottom to the top. It's a sad story of a monster who only wants to fit in so he's trying anything he can to find a way to fit in. He wishes it was his color but it is not. His only color is the black that he can blend in to the shadows with, but he wishes red or gold would be his color. It's a story of trying to not be seen as an outcast.

@FozzBot I guess it's because I had known and loved this song long before having seen the music video, so I'd already given it a certain interpretation of my own, and the video doesn't match the meaning I had. The way he's singing sounds a lot more like he's singing to another person mournfully, saying that there's a certain thing he's looking for that he has to mull over and contemplate, but it's something obvious that most people would recognize right away: a colour.

I am probably way off but i think that underneath the obvious inferrences of nazi germany and its violent past there is a simpler message Blixa is expressing:

Wishing the 'gold' would be 'your colour' seems to be a call by the monster for somebody to love him, someone so close he knows the colour of their lipstick (the lipstick is gold). the fact that its gold is a contrast with the darkness, 'black' that the monster is feeling. The monster is also trying to address his faults throughout the vid

I thought about that video and words couple times and came to some conclusion that the monster feels left by the world, that reality doesn't take him like that, that the one he loves doesn't take him like that. So he tries to give a call and make him better, using a lipstick. But we see that reality around him is ugly, too. We live in imperfect world. The monster understands this and tries to make him a little bit better, brighter with this little lipstick. I can be wrong.

The song is obviously about Germany and its history of. Red, gold and black are the colours of the German flag. Red could be an analogy for the communist regime in east Germany, as well as the violent history of Germany.

Gold, I'm not sure of. Black, however, obviously relates to Nazi Germany ("the cold furnace in which we stare"). What Blixa is trying to say with these quite symbolic lyrics are left to the listener to interpret, I think.
