So I think one of the main reasons for a lack of comments among most videos is probably laziness. I for one never would have found this channel had it not been for fiveawesomeguys. I personally have made it a priority to watch all videos by all five of you. I'll admit there are a few where I kind of want to just give up this personal challenge, but I like all of you and I think you have wayyyyyyyy more video talent than I do. But seriously, laziness rules most of us.

I watch thousands, and thousands, and thousands, and thousands of videos, but out of the tens of thousands of videos I have watched since 2007, I have only left comments on about a third of them. Just because I don't comment, doesn't necessarily mean I haven't watched your video, it just means either:
A) It's three in the morning and I'm too lazy to comment

Hmm well i've done a litle modeling and i was on a worldwide tv show for a few days, but somehow some people still recognize me and ask for an autograph \picture of me or with my car. I'm not famous to have paparazzi follow me all day but enough that every month or so a few people show their appreciation..... Anyways, to get to the point, to me it would be because if i leave a comment here, it wont just stay here. People will keep replying to it & it will travel if that makes sense.

Important issue to address, the Youtubelebrities need to remember that they didn't start as big as they are now, so its nice to stay in touch with old fans and help struggling Tubers.

well, I'm not a YouTubelebrities & I just recently started watching YouTube frequently... but I just wanted to say that I don't comment on very many of the videos that I watch because I don't upload myself & I don't know if YouTubers actually come back & read the comments or not, so I wonder, "What's the point?" I think the problem you're bringing up is one shared by everybody, not just popular youtubers. I have 170 subscribers now and yet only receive an average of 20 comments per video. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But, shouldn't it stand to reason that at LEAST half of these people would leave some kind of feedback?
If more youtube celebrities watched peoples videos, something might stir their interest and/or give them a better idea of what people actually like and what entertains that. But you've raised a good point, though.

I'm by no means a big YT honcho, but I've already subscribed to over 400 channels - truly with the intention of watching each of them. There just isn't enough time. So I watch every video from my closest YT friends and drop by all the others occasionally. And if someone posts a video every day, there is no way I can watch all those. I bet it's even harder for the big popular names who get so bombarded.
Agreed Matt, it's just nice sometimes to know that they watched and took the ten seconds it takes to leave a comment, like so many of us "regular" users do for them.
yeah I normally comment on most of the videos I watch, it only takes seconds. Anyway, interesting discussion, I don't think I have anyone you'd call a YT celeb subscribed to me (although that depends on your definition of course), I receive the odd comment from Spricket24 and Katiesopinion but they don't sub, I guess they see my vids from bulletins
I forgot to add.. because of that I'm subscribing! (and I do watch all the people I subscribe to and comment on every video I watch... because who doesn't love a nice comment?) :-)

I've only just started posting videos but I've got a subscription from Nalts (probably because I made a a fake campaign ad for him in his bid for president). Also I got a subscription from theboringdispatcher, who may not be a youtube celebrity per say, but he's someone who's videos I've watched for a long time so it means something to me. Do they comment? That remains to be seen. I think the dispatcher will. By the way, very good video.

Celebrities have no effect on my bottom line. None whatsoever. And they talk in such broad generalities that I can't get in to them....but my dog watches them.
Hey thewinekone, I know you claim regularly in your videos that you're "just a guy who makes videos" and while this is true, it is also true that a ton more people watch your videos than they do others. And while maybe not red-carpet famous, yes, I do believe there are a few "celebrities" on this site.

very very true, fishing through all the spam crap i get in my inbox to find that one REAL suportive msg...is it worth it?, probably but i'm usually just annoyed that i get the same spam msg about "winning 1000'00000000000 dollars by turning on a light"..or whatever crap it is....but yeah i agree, people who subscribe obviously like the videos so why would it be so hard just to leave a quick lil suportive comment?

They don't watch videos. They're too busy empire building. Hahaha! As for myself, my videos take me so long to make that I don't have much time to watch other people's videos. You look at these folks who are subscribed to over 300 people and you KNOW they don't have the time to watch even 10 percent of those. It is what it is.
I'm subbed to over 200 people and watch almost every single video in my subscription center marquisdejolie. I usually only skip vids I'd obviously not be into. I don't drink, so, a video titled "Ten Facts About Beer" is one that I'd skip, for instance.
Hahaha! Prejudging titles or thumbnails is a good way not to learn anything new. If I only watched videos about my likes and habits, fallofautumndistro, I'd have very little on Youtube to watch.

The problem when you get lots of subscribers is that you spend all your time keeping up with inbound stuff. And not enough doing what I LOVE. Watching others. But I solved it- AppleTV. But it's hard to comment there.
theres no doubt Michael Buckley is a cool guy...but he prolly just leaves you comments cause you make great videos :D that may be just one reason among many : )
Michael Buckley is great, not only he comments on your videos, he replies to me when I post comment on his, and I can see his heart is in it. He's the best top subed person. Ian Crossland is subed to me, I dont know if he's watching my vids. But my fav subscriber is burnvictim77, I dont know if he is watching me, but I felt humbled when he subed to me, clearly I'm fan of his. :) cheers man.
I think a lot of people subscribe to other people just to promote themselves. If someone hides their subscriptions you can just about bet that they subscribe to everybody and their neighbor without any intention of watching their vids. That kind of erks me. If you don't plan on watching my vids, don't bother subscribing.
There's a little wigglebutt. And I spent 15 mins in the damn bathroom getting rid of the whale tail in my hair... I'll bet that made for a good morning. <3
I can count on one hand, okay, two or three hands, the number of times an e-lebrity has commented on my videos in the last year. And, yes, it's usually only when I make a video directly about them.
If you have a video you think they might like, send it to them as a video response to one of their videos, it seems like with that approach there's more of a chance they'll see it.
It wouldn't make or break my week Matt, no. But it says to me that what I uploaded wasn't interesting enough for someone to take 20 seconds to reply to, and seeing as I'm a daily commentor on many of the partners who are subscribed to me, it only seems like it'd be the community-building thing to do.
So it's more like on MySpace where people trade pic comments for pic comments (pc4pc)? If the video is not interesting enough, maybe you should make them more interesting. ;)Please don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to 'bust your balls' here, i'm just curious as to how people draw conclusions about others based on their actions.
Well if they aren't interesting I'd assume eventually that person would unsubscribe, or would finally get fed up watchign uninteresting videos and make a suggestion as how to improve... in the comment section. =) This was supposed to spark discussion, so I don't mind the "ball busting" Matt. I'm interested as well.
It has to be difficult, for a YouTubealebrity to wade through everything, i'm sure they get a lot of messages, and requests, be in this collab and comment my page/video/forehead and the like. How to balance it all and keep up with subscriptions and comments must get maddening at times. Not that that's an excuse, everyone starts out at the bottom except for a few special instances, and they should at least remember what it's like for everyone else.
The over 10,000 watched is usually from auto-refreshing. lol Naw... that's what I mean though. I assume they sub because they watch and want to watch more, but then the content never inspires a comment or response at all?

I've only just started posting videos but I've got a subscription from Nalts (probably because I made a a fake campaign ad for him in his bid for president). Also I got a subscription from theboringdispatcher, who may not be a youtube celebrity per say, but he's someone who's videos I've watched for a long time so it means something to me. Do they comment? That remains to be seen. I think the dispatcher will. By the way, very good video.

Hey thewinekone, I know you claim regularly in your videos that you're "just a guy who makes videos" and while this is true, it is also true that a ton more people watch your videos than they do others. And while maybe not red-carpet famous, yes, I do believe there are a few "celebrities" on this site.

Hey Alan, after watching this video I went back to read a comment I remember leaving on your video "i'm *trying* to vlog here.. ugh".......and .....I can't find it....did YouTube lose my comment?
I don't comment much, but the video's that really make me laugh, like laugh hard enough that people in the next room come to see what I'm laughing about, I do comment.
"Viagra....what the f**k" was one of those moments. I just don't know what happened to my comment on that one.

"Fall of Autumn" is my website's name, soysauce. But that screenname was already taken, so I added distro on to the end, which is short for distribution, because that's what we do on my website. =)

very very true, fishing through all the spam crap i get in my inbox to find that one REAL suportive msg...is it worth it?, probably but i'm usually just annoyed that i get the same spam msg about "winning 1000'00000000000 dollars by turning on a light"..or whatever crap it is....but yeah i agree, people who subscribe obviously like the videos so why would it be so hard just to leave a quick lil suportive comment?

They don't watch videos. They're too busy empire building. Hahaha! As for myself, my videos take me so long to make that I don't have much time to watch other people's videos. You look at these folks who are subscribed to over 300 people and you KNOW they don't have the time to watch even 10 percent of those. It is what it is.

I'm subbed to over 200 people and watch almost every single video in my subscription center marquisdejolie. I usually only skip vids I'd obviously not be into. I don't drink, so, a video titled "Ten Facts About Beer" is one that I'd skip, for instance.

ogier, the comment limit only requires you to typ ein a five character code to continue commenting, it doesn't stop you from commenting. =)

The problem when you get lots of subscribers is that you spend all your time keeping up with inbound stuff. And not enough doing what I LOVE. Watching others. But I solved it- AppleTV. But it's hard to comment there.

Michael Buckley is great, not only he comments on your videos, he replies to me when I post comment on his, and I can see his heart is in it. He's the best top subed person. Ian Crossland is subed to me, I dont know if he's watching my vids. But my fav subscriber is burnvictim77, I dont know if he is watching me, but I felt humbled when he subed to me, clearly I'm fan of his. :) cheers man.

I think a lot of people subscribe to other people just to promote themselves. If someone hides their subscriptions you can just about bet that they subscribe to everybody and their neighbor without any intention of watching their vids. That kind of erks me. If you don't plan on watching my vids, don't bother subscribing.

If you have a video you think they might like, send it to them as a video response to one of their videos, it seems like with that approach there's more of a chance they'll see it.

But it says to me that what I uploaded wasn't interesting enough for someone to take 20 seconds to reply to, and seeing as I'm a daily commentor on many of the partners who are subscribed to me, it only seems like it'd be the community-building thing to do.

Well if they aren't interesting I'd assume eventually that person would unsubscribe, or would finally get fed up watchign uninteresting videos and make a suggestion as how to improve... in the comment section. =) This was supposed to spark discussion, so I don't mind the "ball busting" Matt. It has to be difficult, for a YouTubealebrity to wade through everything, i'm sure they get a lot of messages, and requests, be in this collab and comment my page/video/forehead and the like. How to balance it all and keep up with subscriptions and comments must get maddening at times. Not that that's an excuse, everyone starts out at the bottom except for a few special instances, and they should at least remember what it's like for everyone else.
