The logo on 00:14 has the colors in the wrong place. George & Junior was the only World Premiere Toon I was interested in because I loved the ones from MGM, but then I got into the other toons, and suddenly, I become a die hard fan of Dexter's Lab and Cow & Chicken. It would've been the same for Johnny Bravo, but I didn't like the directions the cartoon went after season 1. 2 Stupid Dogs, the show where "Raymond's" Brad Garrett started out. I always hated how Sledgehammer at that hot dog.
@CartoonNothing The weekday afternoon incarnation of SA lingered until summer '95, when it was replaced by "Afternoon Adventures". I believe that the Saturday afternoon block of shows was still called "Super Adventures" even after that. The Saturday overnight block was known as "Power Zone", which would later replace "Afternoon Adventures" on weekday afternoons sometime in Spring '96. Regardless, all of these blocks aired mostly the same shows. Just different identities.
If only that fortune teller was able to see a bit further into the future than nine o'clock the same night...like, five or ten years further. The future isn't quite as bright from that perspective.
Cartoon Network used to be so honest back then. They actually told people what was going on, other than airing shows that got the highest ratings or live-action movies like CN does today.
Well, "The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley" was/is owned by Hanna-Barbera and airing infrequently on CN at the time (late nights). But I think that the producers of that "Toonapalooza" spot just shoved in whatever images of characters playing musical instruments (in this case, Grimley and his triangle thingy) to fill out time, even though some of the shows where those characters came from were never aired on "Toonapalooza" (like Ed Grimley, or "Jet Screamer" from "The Jetsons".)
the power zone came on at midnight? Was it shown after space ghost coast to coast? I guess power zone must have been the saturday nght block and toonapalooza must have been the friday one. I remember wanting to watch Toonapalooza but it was on too late for me to stay up all night.
"Power Zone" aired on Saturday (technically Sunday) late-nights. "Toonapalooza" aired on Friday (technically Saturday) late-nights.
And yeah, I remember "Hootnanny". Its logo is briefly flashed on the 10th Anniversary video I uploaded. I remember it yet don't remember what that block/show was about.
didn't Seventies Super Explosion air late night on wednesday nights? that's an odd time slot. Also do u remember a block that was called I think "late night comedy club" or something -it was probably from 96 or so and it was a late saturday night grouping of space ghost, George of the Jungle, and Ed Grimley.. During breaks the characters would be shown standing in front of a brick wall like as if they were doing stand up comedy. it was an odd grouping.
@trapadoored Back then, CN basically threw anything at the wall to see if it would stick. These blocks were proof of that. Though I do recall "'70's Super Explosion" lasting for awhile, into 1997 I believe. Dunno if it remained at that Wed. night slot though. And yes, there's a promo (or at least there was) for that "Late Night Comedy Club" block here on YT.
it was the micheal stype and lassie episode-the one with RaYmond zoraks nephew-the name of the episode was "Hungry" and space ghost is making the noise becuase he thinks it's a noise so high pitched only dogs can hear it.
After which Zorak says : "You idiot, we all heard that."
Oh, yeah. I knew that. I couldn't remember the episode, but I just found my copy of the first season on DVD which I lost for a few years, so I remember the episode.
And you just articulated the reason, I think, for Cartoon Network's decline.
In 1995, it wasn't a kids network. Now, it is. While the shows themselves were aimed towards kids, a lot of the scheduling and promotion was also done with adults in mind. Kids aren't going to stay up til midnight to see Space Ghost. Nor are they going to understand blocks like Toonapalooza.
Yeah, they have Adult Swim now but it's just as tightly focused as CN is...
One must also realize that the people behind the helm of Cartoon Network have changed hands several times, sometimes for the worst.
They also couldn't keep running their classic library of Hanna-Barbera/Warner Bros. and now-classic '90's/early '00's shows forever, which is what many people just don't seem to understand. Going back to the past is a unrealistic, money-wasting decision. Most cable networks are always moving forward. Its ultimately about the money, for better or worse.
Yeah, I understand they have to move forward. I liked CN best during the 98-02 timeframe, when they were focusing on newer stuff (Toonami, Cartoon Cartoons).
It's just that the network was programmed and presented in such a creative, interesting fashion that appealed to everyone. You still see that a bit in Adult Swim but that's long gone from the "kids side" as the execs put it out. I liked it better when Cartoon Network WASN'T the "kids side".
It will direct you to their Vice president's office(James Anderson) so let them know what you think about the new Cartoon Network and how we all want the classics back on. Without us the viewers they would be nothing!
Wow, I can see it happening in the comments already: Rose tinted glasses everywhere in sight. Me, I'm giggling the whole time because of how bad some of these premises were.
I watched Patrick Ventura's stuff when I was little. Looking at it now, there really isn't anything that I find too funny about it. It felt fresh to me back then, but now I see him as someone desperately trying to be Tex Avery and Ralph Bakshi at the same time while not really understanding either.
CN did change for the better in july of 1997!!

I remember when you could send Space Ghost an e-mail. In fact, I think up until 2000, 2001 you could e-mail any cartoon character.
It was awesome-- if any of you are wondering, his favorite episode is Fire Ant.
Miss this stuff so much.
